EXPLANATION FOR PORTSMAN'S IMPRESSION OF BATMAN: Well the reason he puts on the jacket is to look cool. But Edgeworth's office must be heated so he has to repeatedly fan himself.

Still baffled by the name Jacques, I gotta say. When they first announced it I assumed they were going to insert some kind of French background for him, but nope. Something for fics to speculate on I guess.

I admit the name pun is pretty hard to spot, but the name Jacques actually makes perfect sense.

You see, his name is Jacques Portsman, and if you say the full name in a way that slurs the sounds together, it sounds very similar to "Jock Sportsman."

The pun makes perfect sense; what doesn't make sense is why his name is French when there doesn't seem to be anything French about him. It's a little distracting.

It's pretty much just for the sake of the pun. Kinda like how Dee Vasquez has a Spanish name when she doesn't seem very Spanish.

I dunno, I could definitely see Dee as hispanic. Same with Diego, and Juan.

Though I guess there's nothing about Jacques that says "NOT FRENCH!!!" so it's not a big deal or anything. It's just a curious localization choice, I thought.

Next to 3-1:
Most. Enjoyable. 1st case. Ever.

The music is entertaining and engaging, it goes really well with the game

I love how the confrontation is like a "battle" between two characters, although I sometimes went "Wtf?" when Gumshoe or Maggey were in Edgey's spot XD

I like the new Maggey, but it's like they dropped her IQ a few notches (I found the "I don't know what that is, but I guess I should guard it!" pretty cute)

When I spoke the Payne, and Edgey thought he was a janitor (seriously?!) my first thought was "Whhhhhaaaaaaa?!?! He doesn't know Payne? :beef: "
I think I love Buizel too much? ... Nah XD

I really liked this case. If it didn't show the killer at the beginning it would be my favorite first case. Portsman was cool; his voice, while high-pitched, matched the Japanese with how fast it was. It wasn't too easy, but it wasn't hard. A very good case.
8.5/10, Capcom, next time don't show the killer!

A great start to what, so far, is shaping up to be a contender for 'best AA game since the first.' Good villain, clever turnabouts, and a fine variety of puzzle styles

There was one little annoyance, though:

Spoiler: SPOILER
The game takes great care to mention that the doorplates slide out... and it does it so blatantly that as soon as you examine the door for the first time, you really ought to be able to figure out the whole thing. Unfortunately, if you ask to fingerprint the door plates to show they were monkeyed with, you get penalized.

This is kind of sensible - Jacques would have wiped them, and the doorknob is the only sure bet. But they probably should have made the door plates a little subtler - for example, by visually showing the number plate sticking out a little to the side, or something, instead of having Edgeworth flat-out say, "These plates can be removed!" It was weird to think, "Okay, the plates were probably switched, because the game said they could be switched, and the hoop was probably moved, but I don't even know why." (Talk to Maggey. "I opened his office!") "Okay! CASE SOLVED."

This game is great, I got it one day early at a local independent video game store, and it was cool, ya know?

Anyways, I'm still on the first case (I have not been playing it a whole lot, I have been busy with Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Bayonetta) but I'm kinda stuck if anyone wants to help me out IF you finished the first case please, I don't wanna spoil ya!

Spoiler:
After talking to Maggey that Jacques used the Master Key to get into his room, Miles says "let's go check out his door" I have been trying to figure out what to do next since then, I found that book under the sitting thing and I examined everything and both doors, but I'm stuck! someone please help!

Thanks! feel free to PM or quote me with some help, I really am stuck.

There should be a deduction involving the door to Portman's office. Afterwards, at the bottom of the door, you need to look at the note and the basketball hoop

Fantastisch :gant:
I loved this case. It`s the first time you get used to the gameplay and it`s really great.
It`s a welcome change compared to that whole courtroom battling in GS 1-4.

I was pretty happy to play Edgeworth who is much more self-confident than Phoenix, that`s also a welcome change. If you present wrong evidence Edgeworth is covering up his mistake liek "yeah ehrm, I just wanted to explain it closer to you" xD

First I was afraid I was petrified xD
Like: How can there be epic battles without a courtroom, but it`s also highly enjoyable even without courtroom.

Quote:
When I spoke the Payne, and Edgey thought he was a janitor (seriously?!) my first thought was "Whhhhhaaaaaaa?!?! He doesn't know Payne?

I think characters who already appeared in the other GS games and don`t play an important role in AAI are only a "loyalty-award" to the fans of the series.
The name of these chars isn`t mentioned in AAI and there are a few cameos
Is it just me, or...

Spoiler: paper overlook
...Portsman's defense of overlooking that paper is COMPLETE nonsense? Yes, Edgey proved Portsman didn't enter his own office but Edgey's instead, but my logic tells me this - if he actually opened the door, in any case, that paper would kinda move itself. When the doors are open, either air draft would move it, or Portsman would, with his leg while walking. Or something like that...

I played the demo, and it is quite a bit different from the real game with some things skipped. I don't mind, though. It feels satisfying to play the actual case after playing the demo.

Playing as Edgeworth is definitely a strange feeling, even we could do that in 3-5. The whole new gameplay was fun, and I got used to it quickly. The logic really suits him.

It is a great case to start the game. It was kind of simple and short, but that is what the first case should be like. I lol'd when Edgeworth said "you fail". Reminds me of myself when I said that once in a video I made. XD Portsman was so guilty, but the beginning showed that he is the killer. No doubt. Though, I don't know why he would say all those things to Buddy before he killed him. He was just stealing some info from a case 10 years ago. Or was that the other guy?

Since this is the first case that will connect to ALL the cases, it feels that you are missing something after you beat the first case. I don't like that feeling. But I bet if I play it again, it will be more satisfying.

Oh god.

This case took far too long. It's boring so I kept getting distracted by other stuff.

I think because I played the GK demo, then GK, then the AAI demo, I felt like I'd already played it loads.

I will definitely not be replaying this case.

This case really felt quite strange. It was fine and all, and then it just...ended. I think there's some sort of lack of satisfaction if you make the final presentation of any case an examination of evidence. The last part was just like "I BET YOUR FINGERPRINTS ARE ON THIS TAPE" and then it cut to a scene where he was arrested... It makes sense, I suppose, but it still didn't feel right.

Anyway, pretty complicated for a first case. Not hard, per se, just convoluted. I do wonder about the second thief, though or at least I would if the game didn't have a giant IT'S KAY arrow pointing to the scene. I mean, they just came in, saw the body, and shoved it aside to continue searching. In the immortal words of Apollo, "That's cold, dawg".

Maybe that's because the real truth isn't revealed in that case.

Spoiler: Most of the game
Then again, even when the truth does come out in the final case, it is missing some punch. "Jacques was working on the inside"...eh, didn't seem that impactful. Didn't really create a sense of suspense. You already knew about the criminal doings from the previous few cases and when you come to realize that everything you've done to the game to this point has basically been a long string of events to solve the KG-8 Incident, Jacques place in the puzzle is easily brushed aside for the bigger fish (that you have literally been staring at the KG-8 Incident in the face).

Fix'd. They used to be allies to the Scottish when there were wars between Scotland and England.

Oh, and for a first case I liked this. It was a good introduction to the rest of the game.

I got this game in the mail today. I love it. I just finished the first case and it was brilliant. I never knew Edgeworth received flowers from Oldbag EVERY WEEK. The Pursuit theme (Yes, PURSUIT theme, because Cornered is the Pursuit theme in the first game) was just awesome.

I found the thing with the two visitors a bit complicated at first, but I think I get it now.

So...next case is gonna be about planes? Awesome.
