Well there's all sorts of backup plans that a man skilled in surpassing the law can use, like say having a loyal flunkie somehow swap a legit piece of evidence with a forged duplicate so that a defense attorney can humiliate the prosecution. Kristoph seems to be the sort of person who would go along with this plan, except for the fact that GK happens before Zak Gramarye's trial (which was supposed to be Kristoph's debut case). Fitting Kristoph into this role would mean the Cohdopia trial would have to be delayed (which in theory could be caused by anything from a manufactured terrorist scare to a medical emergency that "conveniently" prevents Alba from standing trial).

The impression I got by the end of game, it seemed like Alba's fate was pretty much sealed. I mean, Franziska will be the one prosecuting him in Cohdopian courts after all, and he has Lang and his men tailing after him. But that would make for an interesting plot twist. It could be

His new profile image appeared.

Honestly, he's my favourite villain in the Ace Attorney series. Gant is just popular among fans for 'GANTED', and von Karma didn't really pique my interest. (Although I'm sure his 'Objection!' was voiced by Satan.)

Should that happen, let's hope that Franny is able to whip him into submission and admission of his crimes, or perhaps even whip him to death. :franny:

Though his less dignified breakdown is befitting of his crime,as compared to Gant(whose breakdown is way too cool and funny) and Manfred von Karma(he is more stoical towards what lies ahead of him for his crime).
Gant, despite what he had done, perhaps had a more sympathetic backstory as possibly hinted by his words of Edgry - he might used to be a good idealistic guy, but,to put in the words of one of Nietzsche's well-known quotation,in fighting monsters he became one himself(possibly Manfred von Karma as well, though not really stated in the game). Whereas Manfred von Karma was fruity and particular about perfection(can see how fruity he was just taking a look on the fruitiness of Franny and Edgey).
But there isnt really a modicum of sympathy or excuse Alba, he was just a self-benefiting villain who ruined many people, and did it by abusing his position.

Alba > Gant > Kristoph > Dahlia > Engarde > Manfred
When this guy's true character started to develop, when he broke his stick, when I heard him object, when I made it through testimony after testimony ready for the end (how many is it? 7?)...
The new best villain of the series. He just stays up, leaves no evidence, and abuses his usually beneficial position to the max. Epic poses, epicly evil peraonality, and of course epic objection.

Spoiler:
From the second I saw him, I knew he was the ringleader. But I didn't expect him to have another form where he looked so much like Gant, and I certainly didn't expect him to be SO. DAMN. PERSISTENT. He's definitely the best "final boss" in the series - they went out of their way to achieve that - though I think Gant has a bit more depth and charisma as a character.

I give Alba props for refusing to give up for such a long time, but at the same time I think it dragged the case out a little too much. His character makes up for it a bit, though; I liked that he had some things in common with Gant while still being his own character. His backstory could potentially be pretty interesting, considering that he was a Cohdopian war hero prior to forming the smuggling ring. Maybe he allowed the fame and power to go to his head too much and that ended up corrupting him? Who knows.

That, and his "Objection!" was awesome. XD

(His name brings back bad memories of the terrible ecology class I took last year, though...)

Alba was a really amazing villain; no character in the series had as much power and authority as him. It showed in his appearance, theme song, way of speaking.. You could see it was a man who had no qualms about destroying an entire country economically and killing so many people. Gant and Manfred, though really awesome as well, can't hold a candle to him when it comes to being evil.
It's a pity the case had so many pacing problems, because it had potential to hold one of the most epic battles in the whole series.

Ja, it would be "kwer-koos" in Latin, but because English likes to screw around with pronunciation, you can get away with just saying "kwer-kus". Same with the word Caesar. You always pronounce the "ae" as "ai", so caesar sounds more like kaiser in the original Latin, (Thankfully, the Germans got that right), but we say "see-ser".

From the Character Design Note Translations thread:

Quote:
QUERCUS ALBA
[Yamazaki:] We aimed to make him a tough last boss worthy of going up against Edgeworth. (note: his Japanese name is "Carnage Onred") His name Carnage means "large massacre" in English, but since Alabest's symbol is a flower, it could also come from "Carnation Red".

So yeah, you're right about the name pun.

When I first saw Mr. Alba I thought, "Wow, look. A random old man." and when Edgeworth deduced that the Hair Pins/Passionflower Holders were actually darts, I was like... "So what?". When he said this made him a murderer I totally flipped out. I never imagined that a hunchback old grandpa could be this evil! I had a nightmare the night after locking him away. He was there, standing in-front of me. I woke up crying, and don't ask me why.

P.S. They NEED to make an Alba emoticon. Isn't that right, Frank?

My ecology professor from last year pronounced it as "ker-kus", but he also mispronounced the last name of every single student in the class at least once so... he isn't the most reliable source of pronunciation info. XD; I've heard other professors use "ker-kus" as the pronunciation, though, so that's the one I usually use myself.

New user here who has appreciated the series for some time and has finally decided to make an account.

Spoiler: Case 5 Spoilers
I enjoyed Alba, even if he wasn't my favorite villain overall. I didn't think too much of him for a while probably because I hadn't really suspected him/paid much attention until the return to his office. Then the sudden transformation, theme music, and personal OBJECTION! made things serious real fast. He did last quite a while, but would one expect any less from this stubborn old tree?

Anyways, I thought I'd try my own hand at making some fanart. Like a lot of people, I was curious as to Alba's background as a Cohdopian war hero. That, along with playing some Fire Emblem in the meanwhile, made this:
