although it seems unlikely there will be courtroom bits, I find it likely Edgeworth will meet will the defence, as when playing as both Phoenix and Apollo you see the prosecutor of the case fairly often out of court.
edit: it won't be Phoenix though and Mia is dead at the time the game is set.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that there weren't going to be court scenes. Sooo... this scenario sounds pretty likely to me. ^_^ And I'm thinking that it'll probably be another defense attorney as well. I think it's been said that there's not going to be any cameos of Phoenix, just a mention of him. ^_^;;

But you know, defence never show up until someone has been arrested. And if the game do focus on the process of figuring out the real criminal before arresting ( a detective game, frankly speaking), I really doubt if there would be a defence who against Edgeworh in the game.

After all, as it's been said, what is the point of walking around the crime scene collecting evidence for nothing? And I don't think there will be one-day cases where you present the evidence you collected and they say "Well, this is pretty decisive and there's no need for a trial". There's no Gyakuten without trials.

Ah, but this is not Gyakuten Saiban, remember? It's New Gyakuten, Not Saiban. So, perhaps there's a way to have a "turnabout" just using the evidence that you collect? I'm pretty sure that it's been said in the few articles about Gyakuten Kenji that there's not going to be courtroom scenes.

I'm pretty sure Edgeworth is still going to be "the person who actually prosecutes". He worked hard for that prosecutor's badge, I don't think he wants to spend his days chumming with Gumshoe during investigations just to hand over the work to someone else. The prosecution leads the investigation, so there's no reason the think that just because he's out investigating that he's not prosecuting.
Also, I agree with Tuesday that there probably won't be a defense attorney. The game is certain to take place mainly outside of court, and if there are any cutscenes of Edgeworth's courtroom victories then the defense attorney probably wouldn't appear, or be silhouetted.
Although I have to admit, I could see
turning out to be a defense attorney. In fact, that sounds like a really cool idea.

Just because Franny appears in the trailer doesn't mean she's confirmed as a character in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if she did show up (it would make sense~) but "confirmed" isn't a word we should be throwing around this early. It breeds confusion.

I don't think you can't have a "turnabout" without court scenes. I grew up reading detective stories; PW is basically just a detective story with a larger scope. The series as a whole is obsessed with the idea of "objective truth", so I think GK will play out something like a good Sherlock Holmes story.

As much as I'd love to see Phoenix or one of the other characters we know and love, I'd actually like to see Phoenix in a more supportive role. Maybe a bit of Larry too :) You don't see Edgeworth just hanging out in casual clothing. I'd love to see some friendlier scenes like with Phoenix ^^
