Ok after being humiliated after asking whether this game would have court scenes (I ain't been on in a while I didn't read the FAQ) I'm now fully informed and pose a different question.

Will we miss them?
After all I know it's Turnabout NOT court so there shouldn't be but the courtroom battles were the staple of the series. There's nothing like cracking that witness on the stand then blasting contradiction after contradiction. Yet this game doesn't allow for that?

Now don't get me wrong I LOVE a good mystery and investigation thing, games like Hotel Dusk where you travel around putting people under the spotlight are awesome and I liked the investigation scenes in Phoenix Wright well enough but...there was always the bit where I could look forward to blasting someone in court after they evade my questions in the investigation.

Without the courtroom scenes and the game being PURELY investigatory (to my knowledge) it seems like the main character should easily be a detective like Gumshoe or a forensic investigator like Ema Skye because of the need for investigations but...Gumshoe doesn't make a competent main character and really it's all about Edgy. Rather than Perfect Prosecutor it seems more like Dedicated detective considering what the game involves.

Now I can probably live without the court scenes and I'm happy to see Edgey showing us what he's made of but what do the rest of you think?

A couple glances at the logic system, (fourth red button on the left, grey buttons to search through screenshots,) tells me it's going to be like the court phase. But awesomer.

One of my favourite parts of the series is that moment during the trial when everything suddenly falls into place, the fast tempo music kicks in and I'm suddenly not grasping at straws any more. Nothing quite matches that rush.

I'm not going to assume that a game without that will suffer, though. It will be different, but then this is, after all, a different game. *Shrugs.* I guess as long as I go in with an open mind and don't expect it to be just like Phoenix Wright, I won't miss the court scenes too much and will enjoy whatever takes their place just as much (I'm looking at those screenshots now, even though I promised to spoil myself as little as possible).

The last of the 'logic mode' screenshots had what looked like Edgeworth doing what seemed to be essentially an out-of-court cross-examination of Makoto. So it seems not much will change.

Damn it Kween, that's why I'm buying it too!! XD

I don't think I'll really miss the court scenes because:

1) There's always Gyakuten Saiban 5

2) You'll still have "confrontations" with the other prosecutors.

I've been spending too much time in the threads here, because I immediately perceived 'confrontations' to be a euphemism for 'sexual encounters'.

It always feel like the charged pokemon battle is about to begin when you enter court

Too bad pokemon is'nt what it used to be :sadshoe:

Anyway, It has it's ups and downs and emotionally charged moments and that satisfied feeling victory..

But still I think Capcom knows what we fans like and we can trust them to emulate these moments as closely as possibly into the investigation as we go head on against the witness..

Personally, I will miss the court scenes, mainly because I find them actually easier than the investigation parts (except 3-4, which was a right nightmare of a case).

I wouldn't say they are all easier...but shorter for sure but thats just due to legwork...Phoenix should have invested in a car.

Though for me the cornered tune provided a lot of rush in the court scenes....I'd expect this angle they'd definately have covered for GK so I'm sure some of the rush will still be there...but no magnified heads with speed lines.

As far as we know, Confrontation will be like confronting a witness in court. I think this game will be good because we have a new phase (Logic Mode) that will (most likely) be frustrating at first, but once we figure out how the crime went down, will be very satisfying. It will be like when Monk solves a case and get's that grin on his face. Except Edgeworth will get that smirk (and he's much cuter than Monk).

Psst! Nadindi! PMs cause cancer! :) You can share with the class.

I don't think I'll miss the court scenes. They would just be kind of out of place, I think. In Phoenix Wright, there was always the mystery of who the real murderer was and how it was done. But in Perfect Prosecutor, you would go into court already knowing how it was done and who did it. It would be rather repetitive if we had to sit there and explain to the judge what happened...

Oh, yeah, sure, I'll certainly miss them.

But this is a game starring Edgeworth. What else do you need? xD

In any case, I think the main thing that made court battles so fun was the fact that you started off not knowing anything, and almost everyone in court was against you. Then, once you deduced enough, you got that victory rush. But, considering how Edgeworth's mind works as a Prosecutor (I say "as a Prosecutor" because of that certain event in the last case of T&T), he probably would have the whole case worked out by then, or most of it at least. (as long as he's not against Phoenix anyway.) The court battles wouldn't exactly be as fun, I think; Edgey does all the thinking and deducing before the trials.

Will I miss the court scenes? Definently. After all, it's what got me hooked on Ace Attorney in the first place. The tension, the cornered tune, the breakdown animations and the feeling of playing some sort of legal poker game with the prosecution, in lack of a better description.

HOWEVER, I do fully support the decision of replacing them. The same feel of tension and logic can easily be recreated in another way, and I think it's pretty smart to show the process of solving a murder in the Ace Attorney-world from a different angle. As we now fight for the government and cooperate police, I hope we will see a lot of conflicts based on politics and police work. That could be pretty interesting, perhaps even educational?

I'm not sure how educational they'll be. We're taking a game that is orginally Japanese and translating it to a foreign law system. In Japan, if we are to believe the games, all defendants are presumed guilty. In America, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Still, it would be interesting to see all the politics that go on behind the scenes of the Prosecutor's office and Police Force.

Exactly my point :phoenix: I guess calling it educational is a stretch. But I really hope Capcom sort of made a fictional AA-world government that you actually learn the basic rules of (of course, it would have to be rather simple). So when one murderer turns out to be associated with a politician or whatever, you actually have to manipulate the system from within using your knowledge. I guess it sounds pretty complicated, but if they managed to pull something like that of in a way fitting the rest of the AA-universe, I would be impressed! Think of case 4-3

(1) We're going to get Logic and Confrontation, which should be just as exciting :edgy:
(2) We're still going to (eventually) get GS5 which will have court scenes.

why i think i'll probaly miss the court scene a bit i really love the aproach of this game i think the epic detective work and logic mode was a amazing idea and how can you not love the three main character miles gumshoe and keygirl i have a feeling the knew aproach and asome dialog of this game will quickly make up for the loss of court battles and it's not like were losing court battles completely we still basically have cross examination just in a different style

I will say this.
When I played Hotel Dusk, and finally reached the end, Kyle said "Well, I guess I solved that mystery." Meanwhile, I was sitting staring at my DS thinking "...WHAT...THE F***!!!" Kyle solved the mystery, but then didn't do anything about it; he knows what happened, but so what? Was he just curious or something? Any problems that the characters had at the beginning of the game are unchanged, it's just that Kyle feels a little less clueless.

So basically, what I'm saying is this: Perfect Prosecutor had better have some way of punishing the evil-doers, instead of just getting them to spill their guts through investigation. It's just not the same unless you can Corner someone.

I wouldn't be too worried about that after all while it is a detective game essentially Edgeworth IS a prosecutor, he can dish out hot steamy justice with a side helping of cold hard law besides his best buddy is a detective, he can arrest someone for a confession so there's plenty of punishment.

I'm guessing that the end of the case will be like the end of an episode of Columbo or Monk, where the criminals will say 'nice theory, but you can't prove any of this' and then you do prove it and they get taken away, which should be satisfying enough.

I have to admit that I REALLY REALLY hoped for awesome court scenes ... Especially for an epic final battle against Phoenix. That would have been so awesome, if that would have happened, I'd shit my pants. Literally.

Well, I have to see how the new system works out and I'm sure the game will be great in its own way, but no epic court scene? ... Makes me a bit sad there.

Hmm
I can think of one way it could still be incredibly intense.

Think about why.....
Spoiler: Apollo Justice case 1 spoiler
Nick brought Klavier to court, because in a court of law there is no escape

Outside of a court anything goes, I can get a picture of something like this...

:edgeworth: You make a perfectly valid point however.... I'd like you to explain this to me *presents evidence*
:kasuma: I...ugh....nnnggggGGGGAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!
:edgeworth: HA! This evidence confirms your guilt! Now just to wait for the Detective....Detective...
:kasuma: Heh....heh....knowing this you think I'll let you leave?
:edgeworth: !
:kasuma: Now Mr Edgeworth, you've tried putting yourself in the victim's position to solve crimes no? It's time to try the victim role for real... :darke:

Outside of court there's very little to stop the murderer silencing the pesky prosecutor so I reckon the intensity will still be there especially if theres a serial killer going about killing other witnesses.

Don't you mean Kristoph? Also, you don't have to put spoilers on AJ stuff anymore.

There could be that element of tension since these interogations will take place outside of court. It will be interesting to see how the criminals try to weasle out of their crimes.

Ugh bloody hell I'm always mixing those two up but meh I know about spoilers still it felt courteous but yea the killers simply threatening Edgey is a possibility though really I'd like a little action scene of Edgey kicking some ass or Gumshoe having a shoot out xD they alway apprehend their subjects with ease normally.
