Lance did not know at the time, but Deacon was really Lauren's father, and he wanted to put a stop to their crime before they got into more trouble.

Lance went though with the crime because he discovered that Deacon was in fact the father, and that he was going to expose him as a fugitive unless he helped with the fake kidnapping. That is why Deacon attacked Lance, it was his attempt to save his daughter
