I don't like a lot of things really. I have a playlist of 200 songs on my iPod and the rest of the songs are just "I really feel like listening to *insert soundtrack/classical music here*".
Other than the stuff on there, I generally dislike everything else.
But, I guess I should rephrase, seeing as how I haven't listened to everything the musical world has to offer. Most of the music I've heard, other than the stuff I own, I generally dislike. I avoid the word hate, because, in my own opinion, that implies that I can't stand to listen to it. I can tolerate it, I just really don't like it.

I don't think so. Go away.

Anyway.

I generally like:
- Alternative Rock (this pretty much encompasses all of my favourite bands)
- Metal
- Brit pop
- Punk rock

I generally don't like:
- Pop
- RnB
- Screamo
- Dance/club

There are lot of exceptions, but this is the general pattern. I tend to like a little of every genre. My iPod is very confused.

If you wanna talk about "love", I can only say that I recently decided my favorite genre to be hip-hop, with jazz, symphonic orchestra, and RnB close behind. As a musician, I find it hard not to appreciate any specific genre, so I love music as a whole.

I don't particularly care for Hardcore Electronic/IDM and such, however as with every genre I've made exceptions for several bands and/or songs.

"Jazz" and "Ambient" don't work together in a sentence. I'm not sure you even know what Jazz is, but I shan't pursue this any further.

I really hate sorting the music I listen to into genres but if I have to...

Genres I like
Hardcore rock (I refer to it as Post-hardcore)
Emo (The kind that doesn't involve suicide, there is a kind of emo that doesn't involve suicide!)
Alternative Metal
Nu Metal

Some forms of Japanese rock (there are actually good japanese songs out there!)

Genres I can't stand
Rap/Hip Hop (There's a reason for this)
R&B (This makes me fall asleep no offense)
Country(Makes me fall asleep too no offense)
Pop (Makes me fall asleep too)

Spoiler: For those who are wondering why I can't stand rap or hip hop music
The story behind this is because of the schools I went to. I go to schools where the students and teachers WORSHIP rap and hip hop. Many times they would try to convert you into listening to only rap by literally playing the song really loudly and rapping the song in your face. So pretty much, rap and hip hop was worn out in my opinion.

Right.

Hardcore isn't even a genre in and of itself.
Hardcore Punk as a genre (Black Flag, Bad Brains) led to several different genres.
Most notably, Thrash (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax)
Melodic Hardcore (Bad Religion, No Use For A Name, Rise Against)
Post-Hardcore (Helmet, At The Drive-In, Rapeman)
And Metalcore (Hatebreed, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage)

Metalcore is probably what you're thing of.

Alternative Metal would be more like White Zombie, Jane's Addiction or System of a Down.

Hope this helped. :phoenix:

Of course, pretty much every band listed is debatable of genre. The term Hardcore generally serves as an abreviation of Hardcore Punk. Put really, pretty much any genre with a "Core" suffix has its roots in Hardcore Punk.

Oh, Wikipedia? I don't tend to trust them too much for genre examples. Also, Helmet most likely wind-up under a lesser-known offshoot of Post-Hardcore called Noise Rock, along with bands like Big Black and Mr. Bungle.

That was actually enjoyable, many things lack atmosphere now days.

I've started to get more into 8-bit and Electronic genres again, I like many types of Jazz and Blues too, blah blah blah.

I still hate Hadoken! though and overglorified violence of certain 'gangsta rap' rubbish.

Many metal bands who decided that screaming like their on the toilet with a backlog of crap is not fun and where they attack the guitar like a manic with a cheese grater.

I want to die, boo hoo, my heart bleeds for I am dying.. woah, emo much? Dark and gloomy is fine, emo is a bore.

I think I've had my fill of useless posting, my best type of posting!

Depends on what your taste is... Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, BB King are all good and classic blues. As are Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.

My suggestion is to use last.fm to find one you like the sound of and look at 'similar artist'.

The Becky Chace Band are a little different, maybe not strictly 'blues' though.

You'll likely more be looking for Smooth Jazz though, most people are.

Guys, hardcore bands are associated with harsh, screaming/growling vocals, heavy down-tuned instruments, and blast beat drumming, like All That Remains. AC/DC are NOT hardcore; if you've listened to any of their records, you would notice this from the opening songs.

I perfer songs over genres but I do love rock, any type of rock really. And I am guilty of loving some pop and rap songs.

If I had to choose a genre I dislike it would be disco/dance, and country. (A little bit.) And I can't tolerate some screamo songs.

Hate:
-Country. I've never liked it, ever.
-Rap, apart from Nicki Minaj. For some reason I really like her stuff.

Not really any specifics, though I do have a tendency to mainly listen to metal, my favourite of the genres.

As for the other side, well, I used to ust blindly hate dubstep, then Far Cry 3 happened.

The only genres I completely dislike are crunkcore (stuff like Brokencyde) and deathcore (anything like Winds of Plague, Suicide Silence, Whitechapel). I think pretty much every genre of music except those two has at least one artist worth liking.

Meh....Personally I'm okay with most music genres but I just can't stand for rap...That's the only thing I hate.
Though there are few rap song I don't mind listening. As lon as they have at least somekinda melody....that I like....I can listen it.
Here's two examples, the first one is something I'd never listen and the second I actually have on my mp3.
(both of the songs are from finnish rap artist. The language doesn't matter but I wanted my examples to have "even odds" so you guys can understand better what I'm going for here. I even used the same artist as you can see.)
- Petri Nygård - Kippis Kulaus
- Petri Nygård - Paska Maailma

What I do like then?

Meh....More harder rock or metal I guess.
Or something thats like orchestral but also has metallic guitars and hard bass in it.
And also some kinda power drumset is also a plus.
The best example from this would be Yasuharu Takahashis works on (for example) Naruto Shippuuden or Fairy Tail.
Or something like the 'One Winged Angel' as in the FFVII movie.

Generally I think the music I like is industrial metal like Rammstein.
Not every song is gold but for example their songs Mutter and Spieluhr...
...That's exactly what I like.
