And yeah, I find the music of VLR great, but it has a lot to do with the game experience as well. For example, upon listening to the soundtrack from Dual Destinies I found it plain, but after having watched a playthrough of the game with the music in its context, I started to love a lot of the songs.

Same here, but when it comes to 999-music - if the game itself hadn't made me shiver the music would affect me as much. It's a bit different with the VLR-music since I haven't finished the playthrough (unable to play it, so the experience gets a bit different too) and the game itself hasn't gotten to me as much. There's also this sense of... nostalgia or something when it comes to 999, which may sound a bit strange since I beat it only a few days ago.
