Which title do you like more?
Professor Layton X Phoenix Wright?

With what little cannon reference there is to the game, it's always been called Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney in English. But this is the first time I've heard it referred to as "Professor Layton X Phoenix Wright".
Personally, even though this is about as credible as the guy selling watches in the park, it describes the in game rivalry better then the brand based one we've always gone by.
So just for Haha's since this isn't real news, which title do you prefer for the crossover game?

With the latest Streetfighter game Capcom also went with SF X T instead of SF vs T, as they did with the versus (marvel etc.) series.
With the rivalry in mind I can understand where the X comes from.
hopefully the game won't be called: Professor Layton cross Phoenix Wright though.

In that world of illusions, there will be a lot of Layton X AA crossovers, and they're all called "Turnabout Puzzle: [Subtitle]".
Realistically, I do hope they use some kind of subtitle. As in "Professor Layton & Phoenix Wright: The Witch Trials". That actually does sound likely, doesn't it?

I'm kind of mixed about this.
Looking at PL and PW history, all titles had subtitles (except for the first PW), so it would make sense for this trend to continue.
However, when looking at the trends for crossovers you won't spot any subtitles until you're digging far into the sequals (Marvel vs Capcom, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Streetfighter x Tekken).
So lets look at it from a more corporate perspective. Would you want to add more text to the title: Professor Layton (vs/x/whatever) Phoenix Wright? That would make quite the long title. The game will be more easy to sell in marketing terms with a shorter title that clearly stands for 2 IP's coming together within 1 game.
Now I love Capcom and all, but they are known for their greed sometimes. The DLC antics they pulled of lately attest to that.
In light of this line of reasoning I believe the box-art will only show the 2 names instead of featuring a subtitle.
Maybe it's a bit farfetched, but that's what I would do as a shrinking company in the current economy.

I know what you mean, and that's most probably what's going to happen. But I think that if they put at least a tiny bit of love into the localization, they'll at the very least add a subtitle. I mean, "Professor Layton X Phoenix Wright" is descriptive alright... But it sounds like a fighting game. It makes sense, with all the examples you mentioned and others. Thing is, I completely understand them if they find the title difficult, like we are finding it now, because this is pretty much the first and only story-driven crossovers of relatively-well-known titles to ever leave Japan... If it does actually leave it.
Personally, I'm now more partial towards "Professor Layton & Phoenix Wright: Subtitle Here". Not VS, not X: &. And with a subtitle.

1) I've always found that 'X' in the title really ''ugly''. Only exception is 'Project X Zone' for some reason.
2) it's not a fighting game
VS seems a bit weird too, but I'd take it over the 'X' any time of the day.
Though, I think they might go for something like 'Professor Layton Meets Ace Attorney/Phoenix Wright', that'd make a great title.
