I don't like scary movies either, because at this point they all seem like gore fests. That's why I stick with watching Supernatural or playIng World of Darkness.
As for the sense, you're actually playing stronger than imagined. When allowing it. I just thought sensing ghosts and perks like that and nothing more.
That being said, with the headaches and such, you're really adding to the drama and I like it. Though, if you start feeling left out because you're on the floor writhing in pain whenever anything happens, feel free to tone it down. I'd rather you have fun than stick with continuity.
Your theory about good and bad ghosts is quite interesting... Though you're kinda playing to lose since, odds are, we'll run into a lot of bad ghosts.
