I'll move Jade three left, two down, and attack the boss.

Ah, writer's block. I know that feel, bro. v_v

Jade's attack hits, doing 22 points of damage. The boss is now at 6/28 HP. The combat brings Jade's transform gauge down to 27 and nets her 11 EXP. DoMaya, it's now your turn.

Okay. That means it is now the enemy's turn. The boss regains 3 HP thanks to his being on a Gate. He then remains where he is and attacks Jade with his javelin, getting a critical hit and doing 18 points of damage, leaving her with 24/42 HP. Jade's counterattack hits, doing 22 damage, killing the boss and netting her 61 EXP. That brings her level up to 4 and increases both her Luck and her HP by 1, as indicated below. Red numbers represent stats that increased during one level-up, green numbers represent stats that increased during two level-ups, and blue numbers represent stats that increased during all three of Jade's level-ups. Also, the combat reduces Jade's transform gauge to 26.

Spoiler: Jade's new stats
Image

The Guard moves to the fort next to Jade and attacks her, hitting for 2 points of damage, leaving her with 22/43 HP. Jade's counterattack hits, doing 23 damage, killing the Guard and netting her 23 EXP. The combat brings her transform gauge to 25. All the enemies are now dead, ending the test battle. With the test battle over, everyone's stats now revert to what they were before.

I've got a third test battle ready to go, but before I post the map, I want everyone's opinion on something: should I apply minor stat penalties to enemy units to give you all a bit more of an edge? At present, no such penalties have been applied, and while you have proven you can handle enemies that are just as tough as you, there is a part of me that feels the difficulty is a bit too high for most of the party. I don't want to encourage the kind of recklessness that led to Lucius and Dorran getting defeated in this battle, but I also don't want the battles to be too hard for the party to get through without casualties.

I think the penalties might be in order, the advantage of regular fire emblem games is they typically give you a fair few units early on. We'll be operating with minimal numbers. Stat reductions in order to ensure we all survive enough to grow might be worth it.

ill be fair on that part that i misjudged my range and got myself killed...but i was kinda testing how i'd fare against magic units since this was just a test battle...which is pretty obvious i don't even if i only died due to a critical hit...

Having said this i agree with pierre for pretty much the same reason.

Actually, Blak, you made two mistakes that, combined, led to Lucius getting taken out. The first was, as you pointed out, misreading the enemy's range. The other was not healing. If Lucius had had just one more hit point than he did, he would have withstood that attack.

Getting back to my earlier question, though, what's your stance on my giving enemy units stat penalties?

That's my main concern, Blak. A penalty to initial stats would be a given, and caps would remain unchanged, but I'm unsure about growth rates. I'll throw something together to test that after the third test battle. For the time being, growth penalties are unnecessary due to everyone's low level, but I'll need to see if they should be implemented for higher levels.

The video link's right there in my signature if you plan on voting, Pierre.

Anyway, going back to the topic of the RP... I've gone ahead and added penalties to every enemy unit for the next test battle. This battle will test out a mechanic that appeared in the first four games released outside of Japan, but not Shadow Dragon and Awakening: fog of war. There will almost certainly be nighttime battles in this RP, and I want to see how well you five can handle a visibility mechanic. Technically, your characters should only be able to see what's in their own sight range, but in the games, there was essentially a collective sight range, so I won't forbid you to rely on your comrades' respective sight ranges to attack enemies that aren't in your own character's sight range. I will apply the same rules to the enemy. If you're not within the sight range of any enemy units, they cannot attack you. If, when moving, your character follows a path that is blocked by an unseen enemy, he/she will stop directly next to the enemy in question and his/her turn will end immediately. Again, I will apply this to enemy units, too. I might know where your character is at any given time, but that doesn't mean the enemy should.

An enemy's stats will become visible once he/she enters someone's sight range. Also, any items indicated in red text are ones that you will take from an enemy if you defeat him/her.

Anyway, everyone, please choose a starting spot.

Gm... Thinking about it, the old system is kind of harsh... Okay, I've revised the fall damage system. Here's the revised system:

Quote:
If you shove someone then, your victim will suffer fall damage equal to half his/her weight, multiplied by how many spaces of cliff he/she tumbles over. In that situation, though, he/she might manage to grab you, in which case you will also suffer fall damage. His/her attempt to grab you will be treated as a counterattack using a weapon with a Hit of 100 (note: the weapon having a Hit of 100 doesn’t mean the attack has a 100% chance of hitting). If it hits, you will be moved to the space your victim previously occupied. If your weight doesn’t exceed that of your victim by at least five points, you’ll then fall and land on a random space next to your victim (assuming your victim managed to grab you). Also, airborne units are immune to fall damage and will simply be shoved onto the space behind them.

At full HP, Jade (when not transformed) and Ardan would need to fall five spaces to die, Crelarus would have to fall four spaces, and Lucius would have to fall three. Anything less, and they'd survive.

Okay, then. By process of elimination, that puts Crelarus on the topmost spot. Lida, I'm going to have Jade's transform gauge start at 0 this time. In actual battles, the gauge's starting position will depend on where it was at the end of the last battle, how much time has passed since then, and how long Jade has been in her current form. Cold, since Pierre said earlier he wants to always move last unless someone asks for healing, you will be moving first. Because you might be stopped by an enemy if you move over darkened areas, you must explicitly state your path. If you say "four left, four up," I will move Dorran accordingly. If an enemy is on the sixth tile along that route, Dorran will be stopped at the fifth tile.

Also, for future reference, Cold, considering that Dorran is vulnerable to Wind Magic, Thunder Magic, and bows, it might be wise to let other party members take their turns first in the future so they can scout ahead lest there be any nasty surprises waiting in the darkness for an unsuspecting flier.
