Turnabout Finale sounds like someone important dies, eg. the protagonist, and everyone else cannot move on.

Alright guys, it was fun for a bit, but let's stop discussing possible English case here, because that's not what this thread is for. If you want to talk about it, head over to the "LET'S GUESS ENGLISH NAMES~" thread.

Japanese names are completely phonetic; unlike English, there are absolutely no exceptions to pronunciation or anything. Go find the names in romaji, and read each letter as you see it.

In case that's a yes did you think it hurts difficulty?

The game is pretty easy overall.

As for your 'real' question, I'm taking it to mean you're asking if there were ever any contradictions for the sake of having contradictions, rather than there being a legitimate reason behind them. Hmm... I can't remember any singular testimonies like that, but thinking back about it...
Spoiler: Case 3
Everything with... Chishio on day 1 seems kind of pointless and unrelated to the rest of the case, now that I think about it.

Not completely true: the ん is pronounced differently depending on the following kana. I.e. the ん in 新宿、乱歩 and はんこ are pronounced n, m and ng.). The fate it has to carry for being the single kana ending on a consonant...(thus the only consonant to precede another consonant)

Fair enough, but if he's looking at the names in romaji, hopefully they will use the appropriate n/m/ng/whatever instead of just n, meaning he won't have to worry about it.

(And even if it does use only n, the pronunciations won't be too far off. At the very least, it's not like English, where you'll be completely wrong if you just try to pronounce it without actually knowing it.)

Question about dialogue/writing: Do people still "Swear on their honor as a [insert profession]..."?

In AAI Gumshoe kept saying "I swear on my honor as a detective" when he was accused, as did Rhoda Teneiro in case 2 with "On my honor as a flight assistant". It doesn't make any sense imo or it's just incredibly solemn and dorky sounding. I guess that's japanese manners or something?

I don't explicitly remember any lines like that (but then again, I barely explicitly remember any lines) but I do think they do that a bit

Try looking at the third one :P But if you want the other two in kana, they're しじゅく and ら

Funny, as soon as I try pronouncing them, I get the sounds you described. I suppose it's something that naturally comes by with ん.

Thank goodness the rest is as is, or I'd be in trouble. Learning Chinese is so much harder in that aspect... and I can never get Sichuan dialect down.

Yep, it's something that occurs in a lot of languages. It's because the position of your tongue when you pronounce an 'n'. If it's followed by a labial tone like a 'b', you have to close mouth, resulting in an 'm'. The same for a guttural; your tongue moves back to your throat from the 'n' position to create a guttaral tone, resulting in a 'ng' (which lies halfway).[/linguistics]

I happen to be a fan of the bittersweet endings that are out there in other stories :P
I still think The Final Turnabout/Finale as generic as it is would be a both shocking and intriguing name to get in your face when you reach the final trial (in case they decide to end the franchise at some point)
Uplifing endings that have losses in them generally gives me chills. I don't think Phoenix should die, but there should just be some sort of compromise in the final case where the protagonists lose something but gain something even better.

True dat. Let's move on.

Next question: I'm playing the GK2 fan-patch and I'm into case 2 right now. So far a bigger picture is starting to reveal itself as to what the overarching plot will be about and I'm intrigued and impressed since this is much more than I thought the game would be. I've heard people say the story in GS5 was handled poorly but the characters and mystery was great. So the question is: Does GK2 in your opinion, have a better story than GS5? :adrian:

Judging from his dialogue and his voice in the english Blackquill footage I think they're going for the knight personality. Personally that's better imo since I really don't dig Blackquill's samurai theme, but it's okay if they just go with it too.

In the game, does Phoenix copy one of Mia's animations? It's the hair flipping one.

I found it on the dev blog here: http://www.capcom.co.jp/gyakutensaiban/5/blog/20130708.html#more but I haven't seen any footage of it in action. According to google translate, it plays if you pause for a while before continuing dialogue, kind of like how Athena wipes the sweat off her forehead.

Yes he does indeed. And I don't recall seeing that one where he does like Mia, but then again. I don't have the game and I only saw roughly 2/5 of the game in total on a livestream.

Short, short version: they decided to create two models for Phoenix, because the first model (trial) looked weird if you look straight at him (in the investigation modes). And they made a test version of an animation of him using his new lock of hair (based on the Mia animation), but it was sealed and locked away forever because it just didn't look right on him.

Case 4 should be called "Through Turnabout, and Beyond!"
...Alright, sorry, enough of this :P

How is the UI in the game? In AAI and GK2 they redesigned it or something, and it felt less responsive. So did it when you made objections as opposed to in the main GS games where Objections came up right as you pressed "Present" or the L-button. Just in comparison, is the UI an improvement or does it feel less so?

And my golden question: There's only one row of evidence from what i've seen. Have they cut down on the total amount or does it stack up as usual?

I don't really pay much attention to the UI. It's different from the previous games, certainly, but it didn't feel significantly better or worse. (Except not seeing the "examine" button on the bottom screen for 95% of the investigations made me cry so much inside :larry: )

There are still multiple pages of evidence; this isn't like PLvAA, where you're strictly limited to 8 pieces or anything. They do remove evidence you don't need anymore a lot more often than previous games, though.

I can't say anything for the English version, but here's the complete translated script for the credits.
Spoiler: Credits
Trucy: I'm still thinking about what I should do for Apollo, who's just returned to the agency.
By the way, I've been taking "clients" of my own!
Looking for a lost cat, installing an air-con, tutoring on computers, looking for lost things...
What's that? But they're not defense clients, you say?
That's okay! This is the Wright Anything Agency, after all.

Juniper: Thena and Apollo's great efforts were amazing to watch...
I'll have to study really hard to become a judge someday.
My grandmother used to say, "Eating beans can help diligent study."
Ah, but which should I choose? I have both black and white beans back home...
Maybe I'll grow some red "like the sun" beans instead.

Payne: The end of the Dark Age of Law? Mm-mm... It's about time.
But, I believe getting guilty verdicts by any means necessary is still sometimes necessary.
What? I'm being called in for a salary assessment? It's by Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth's order?
Heeeeeeee...!!

Tenma: You see, the Masked Wrestler Tenma Taro has debuted on television.
Jinxie: Next time, he'll be fighting with the Great Kyuubi.
Tenma: Hmm... but what should I do? I'll be fighting against myself.
Jinxie: Then, let's call Mr. Demon Attorney for the role as Great Kyuubi II!
Tenma: Oh, good idea! No one else would be more perfect for the job!
Ka-ka-kah! Attorney, now we shall be mortal enemies!

Filch: Actually, I've become the next village chief. Isn't it amazing? Heheh.
As the representing chief, I've sworn to protect this precious village of mine.
Well, if you're feeling grateful, I'll gladly accept donations for this village.
Officer: Hey, you there! Don't sneak into the mansion as you like!
Filch: Yipes! I've been found out! I'm outta heeeeeeere!

Chishio: I've thought of becoming a ceramics sculptor, but after seeing Athena working so hard...
I've decided to return to being a lawyer. So, I'm studying hard for that bar exam!
Kyah! Maybe someday, I'll get to prosecute a case against Athena!
Rei: Hmph. I'm busy with vigorous study right now, though it's not for the bar exam.
It's for the academy's entrance exam. This time, I'll really be giving my all to ace it, of course...
With a full 100 points, naturally.
Chishio: Together with Rei! And Juni! We'll push for our dreams foreveeeeeer!!

Miriam: Even after I picked the best cardboard box for those three... none of them tried them on!
Why!? Is it because I'm not going to be a lawyer, but a reporter for the court?
Though... thanks to the publicity from court, the future of the news club is secured.
Shishishishi! Alright, I should distribute my junior's new submission to the school newspaper.
"Ill-reputed Head Editor, Lamenting At Graduation Ceremony Practice, Sodden Cardboard Box"

Klavier: It was a single night's revival live... that passionate evening. I remember it even now.
There was the beautiful voice of that girl, head of the student council, as she departed from her high school years.
The day she becomes an official judge is one court session I would surely attend.
It may just be the coolest trial to ever exist. Let's rock!

Pearl: Just after I've finished sweeping through every corner of the room...
It immediately becomes messy once again.
If it keeps up like this...
Then I'll just have to clean up the attitudes of everyone in this office!
Once she's finished with her training, Mystic Maya will be coming over, after all!

Ohgawara: Fwahahahahaha! The dream into outer space has once again been revived!
The HAT-3 Program has officially been confirmed for launch!
Citizens of the nation! Pay close attention! This will be my, Ohgawara Uchu's, magnificent enterprise!
What is it!? Ah! Center Chief! The rocket's preparations are complete!
Leave everything to me, this center's Vice Chief, Ohgawara!

Ponco: I will be going to the Moon on the newest rocket!
If Athena and Mama Mari also come to the Moon, I will show them around!
Pyrenees Mountains? The quiet sea?
Will I be expecting two new visitors? Yay! Yay!
Ponta: I hope Lady Kaguya is doing well...
More than the Moon, I want to be beside Lady Kaguya!
Aaah! Lady Kaguya! Please use me once mooooore!

Hoshinari: Launch preparations are OK! 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...
LIFTOFF!
I'm going to the Moon for sure this time! For Aoi's sake!
From those attorneys, I've learned to never give up!
...Then again, will I really be fine? There's no air in space, and it's extremely cold...
As I thought, I'm not going to be safe out there. Haaaaaaah...

Blackquill: No, I'm not a member of this agency. I came to look for someone to defend Sis, but...
No one's here. It looks like I've been waiting in vain.
...So, whose defense client might you be?
...I see. Your father's the defendant. Then, ask Athena to lead your defense...
Hmph. Well... I suppose I'll be meeting with your father in court later.

Edgeworth: Mr. Payne... look forward to your salary assessment next month.
Payne: Heeeeeeeee! My deepest apologiiiiiies!
Edgeworth: Since the resolution of Blackquill's case, the Prosecutor's Office has been seeing many more problems arising.
As I expected, the resolution of that case has only begun to thaw out further opportunities.
I'll need to ask that man for his assistance once more.
And I'll repay you the favor sometime, Wright.

I've skimmed this thread a few times, and as far as I can tell, my exact questions haven't been asked. Still, apologies in advance if I missed them.

For those who've played the game, I have a few general questions about the final boss. In your opinion:

Was their "reveal" something of a surprise, or was it pretty obvious who they were after a certain point? Were they intimidating? Was their motive compelling? Were they ultimately satisfying to take down? (I realize these are questions that you can't really answer in detail without getting into big spoiler territory, but just a "yes" or "no" or a short non-spoilery explanation would be fine.)
Now, even if you apologize...I will not forgive you.

Okay, expect spoilers, but I do not reveal nor hint final boss's identity
Spoiler:
The final boss is not present at the courtroom in the moment you accuse them. From this point though, you expect obviously that is them, but there is other kinda shocking scene during their actual reveal.

I can't say about motive without spoiling anything. "Compelling" might not be the right word though.

I believe they are quite satisfying to take down, but I have yet to play the game myself

Spoiler:
It was never "obvious" that they were the killer like with some other killers/cases, but as the final case/end of the game was approaching, and I was thinking about who the killer would be, they were pretty much always at the top of the list. In other words, it's not OMGWTFBBQ like in GK2-5, but it's also not like you know for sure it's them as soon as they show up or as soon as you get a certain piece of evidence.

I... wouldn't really call them intimidating.

Motive was pretty weak. The final boss did a 'certain action,' and everything following did actually make sense in terms of why they were doing what they did and whatnot, but there was basically zero explanation for why they did that 'certain action' in the first place.

They were... satisfying at first, but it gets kind of Alba-y by the end. But even worse than Alba, because the final boss' various admissions include illegal things but you STILL can't get them for that stuff for some reason >.<

I've heard
Spoiler:
that the final boss gets away/vanishes and you don't get him convicted

Does this leave the fate of the final boss open ended or not? if so, do you think that character will appear in the next game, because I hope not. I don't care about the GK teams villains
Spoiler:
so many of them have no compelling motive to what they did

Maybe Mr. Yamazaki needs to change his writing procedure. Usually he starts every case by thinking of a twist and then he works his way up to that point logically. If I were a writer for GS, I think the first thing i'd think about was motive or themes that could make for an interesting case. In a lot of cases I think the villains of the AAI games for example have very uncompelling motives and the cases lack payoff because of it.

Not really... You confused the cases. The person who "gets away" is last witness of the forth case... who did not commit the crime in question.

Spoiler:
Nope, he gets convicted Blackquill-style. I highly doubt he'd appear again in the next game. Final bosses never appear again in the next game.

That doesn't have to be a set tradition, of course, but it'd be difficult to integrate such a character into a different story without spoiling too much.

Well, GK2 technically spoiled the "Yatagarasu is a team" and "Kay's father is Yatagarasu" stuff in GK2, heh...

Spoiler:
The final boss does not get away, and indeed gets convicted.

There is, however, something pretty big related to the final boss that is left extremely open ended.

Spoiler: GS5-5 spoilres
By that you mean his motive for killing Athena's mother (or was it another action you mentioned?), organisation he worked for and the gunman who shoot him?

I kinda expect him to reappear in GS6 or at least to be mentioned during investigation on that organisation. After all, he did survive the shot and he might cooperate with the police after he was already taken down himself.

I meant his face xD

The 'certain action' I mentioned in the other post was indeed killing Athena's mother, though.

Any characters in GS5 that are just completely unlikable?
