Tremendously curious since admiteddly I haven't had the chance to go through the entire game yet, but how many animated cutscenes(including intro and episode ending) are there in this game ?

Would love if someone was able to provide a summary on how many exactly, all things considered.

Not sure if this deserves its own thread, but okay.

7 in total: case 1 opening, case 2 opening, case 3 opening, case 3 ending, case 4 middle, case 5 middle (closer to beginning), and ending. If you include the narrated case intros (drawn in a more realistic style), that's another 4, but they aren't exactly fully animated.

I suppose the amount of 3D animations in the game more than make up for the lack of 2D cutscenes, but it's a shame there are so few. Supposing this will be the standard for later DGS installments, I can imagine the dev team will focus on the 3D aspects more so than 2D from now on.

Are they as over-the-top cringeworthy as in DD (and no, it's not only the english dub that made it cringeworthy)?

They're slipped in rather subtly, so you never know when to expect one, and they're delivered with grace. Nothing like in DD where they have a cutscene (or several, now that I think about it) just for a character to shout. They're done as they are in PLvsAA, where they move the story along just fine without detracting from the point. The narrated intros actually set up the mood for the case, so you aren't just thrown right into it (although the cases themselves are pretty mind-boggling anyway). The only one I felt wasn't so necessary was the arrival at Baker Street, but it was short and sweet, so it's not really an issue.

Edit: Whoops, forgot the first case doesn't have a narrated opening (in the style of the Holmesian tales) like the rest. There are only 4 of those.
