But, there was also a seperate 'consider' mechanic, which would allow you to think more deeply about any card/character. This served as a hint / difficulty mechanic, because by 'considering', Akito would say something that would explain something more item X's role in the story (the mutterings between GS's testimony loops etc). But these observations were all optional, so any player could go through the game at his own difficulty level of choice. Not sure where that one piece of evidence fits in the chain of events? Just 'consider' that piece of evidence. It's a system that can give very precise hints, without giving away too much of the whole picture (because it's item based), and it's completely optional, so for those who want to do everything themselves, just don't use the option.

I mean look at the Ace Attorney-esque game Danganronpa, which has two visual novels but now the third one is a third-person adventure with beat-em-up elements! So I could totally see an Ace Attorney game in a completely different medium. Free roam in good old
(then again I still want a proper visual GS6 visual novel game haha so spin-off maybe??? Capcom??? Helloo??....)

My suggestion is to have a GS game that takes place in an alternate universe to the main series. A darker and edgier alternate universe, like Twisted Metal Black. This world would be a lot more realistic; there wouldn't be anything like Spirit Channeling, Magatamas, or superhuman perception. The game would take place in a Sin City-esque dystopia. A lot of the characters would be counterparts of the characters from the main series, with the same names, but with differences to the original, like their back stories or their personalities. Manfred Von Karma, instead of being a prosecutor, is a corrupt politician who is willing to do anything to move up the ladder, including making deals with organized crime, embezzling funds, and even murdering his competition. Phoenix Wright is one of the only non corrupt attorneys still left in the world, and he is a lot more cynical than the original Phoenix. Dahlia grew up being raped by her father and forced into becoming a geisha, which is what lead her to going insane. I have more ideas for how different characters would have changed, but I'll save those for later.

Also, something I love about 4-4 is how it's such an unassuming case. Think about it. Intro aside, it seems like a completely normal case at first; maybe even filler. There's no other finale case in the series that doesn't start in a way that makes the case seem like a finale (1-5 doesn't count). I'd like to have another final case like that

Fyi, a new Consultation dialogue pops up every three strikes. They consist of the lawyers thinking over which statement in the testimony is most "suspicious", namely which statement to press / present stuff at. And... that's about it, really. They don't "consider" over certain pieces of evidence for more details, and it doesn't work during Mood Matrix testimonies unless you have a penalty bar active. I don't even find anything particularly funny then; granted, I only tried it thrice out of curiosity.
This option could definitely work in later games, but it has to be readily available for anyone, not only because players mess up too many times. They should also throw in reminders about the meaning behind certain pieces of evidence, not only the testimony, so those who've taken a break from the game can return to it without feeling left out.
This would be ideal with Phoenix as the legal aid to Apollo or Athena, since he'd be the one most suited to giving hints, but I guess old age gives him plenty of chances for brain farts too.

The only reason it was pitch black was because either the skylights were covered up or there weren't any skylights. It was still daytime then.

Now we just need another character whose danger level is akin to that of de Killer's. I miss the excitement of facing off with an assassin directly. (I know this is mean, but I do hope Athena gets her share of bonk-on-head and the arbitrarily selective amnesia of course, just so we can say every lawyer at the Wright Anything Agency is prone being struck on the head. Getting bonked on the head by an assassin could be pretty bad, though.)

Yeah a lot of those plot holes in Apollo Justice killed me...I would like to see them answered if not in AA6 then AA7 (assuming that Dual Destinies is the start of the new trilogy with Apollo Justice just being a "prequel" or so to say) I personally would like to see Nick and Maya do some classic work together and not have her appearance in the game be reduced down to a cameo, heck put her on trial again for who knows what this time lol. Also with Edgeworth in mind I feel like the only proper way to answer why became chief prosecutor would be to have a GK3.
And who knows maybe De Killer has a successor now? That would be interesting to see a young up and coming De Killer

As long as GS6's big scheme doesn't involve "a shadowy third person who's the mastermind/Phantom/Yatagarasu-esque" seriously, step out of that formula already. And plz NO goddarn government should be involved with GS6's plot. There's been enough smuggling rings, presidents and spies in the latest games. I don't like that stuff in my Ace Attorney. It feels too dull to me.

After almost finishing AAI2 I couldn't agree more. I feel like if Apollo's father was to be written into the game Yamazaki would do a good job with it...and yeah I feel like the whole "mastermind" thing is a bit old...however for these games it does make sense. I mean heck JFA and T&T both had the same mastermind running the show and she didn't even appear in T&T

Actually, I think it was geared towards being a compromise between the old and the new games and their characters. For this purpose, it did its job amazingly well.
Now that we speak of it, when you think of DD as AJ's sequel, the dark age of the law makes much more sense - after all, we both know things were pretty shady in that game - it'd make sense Phoenix would want to set things straight as well, since he also contributed to that himself with not just false forgery accusation...

It was certainly a compromise, but I still believe they could have handled said compromise a bit better. Athena's story just threw us for a loop, since we weren't sure how she'd be integrated into AJ's story. As it turned out, she wasn't, thankfully. I think both games would have turned out worse for wear if she had to be retcon'd in.
As a sequel to AJ, DD didn't have to address everything from AJ, and they chose the most appropriate major theme from that game to expand upon. My complaints about the DAoL were always about how it was implemented rather than the fact it was given a name, but it definitely had the potential. If they keep it going for GS6, that would be the ideal way how they could tie these three up into a trilogy. Some of GS2 felt pretty out of place compared to GS1 and 3, but it was no less integrated regarding Phoenix's (and Edgeworth's) story.
On the other hand, if DD turned out to be the start of a new trilogy, AJ could be seen as a prelude to it, rather than as the direct predecessor. And honestly, with how closed most of AJ's cases are, it'd be easier if they ditched it to the side, but picked out some ideas that they could essentially reinvent.
When you're given less than ideal conditions to work with, you get creative. Ironically, when you're given ideal conditions to work with, you have less room to be so creative because you need to stick with continuity.
On an unrelated note, since Nick was always used to working with two people in the office at pretty much all times, the fact that he's actually drawing in more disciples is intriguing. Yet, with how little they seem to work, you'd wonder just what Apollo and Athena do in their spare time. It's like they take turns scrubbing the toilet or something. They worked so hard for their law degrees only to be janitors for most of the year. That's pretty sad. At least Trucy has her primary job as a magician.
I sure hope GS6 addresses this issue at some point. It's almost shameful how Nick acts as a boss to them. He makes a good mentor; not a good boss. Maya, on the other hand, has proven since the end of 3-5 that she's leader-capable. Gee, what a contrast. They should bring back Maya if only to smack Nick back into shape.

Redd White... I honestly think he should be somehow fleshed out. All that time, I felt that Mia dying to take him down wasn't worth it at all. I admit that the case itself has a big impact and throught Turnabout Sisters it feels like we are taking down someone important, but it quickly got disconnected from the series as a whole.
The problem with him is, writing something that involves him... It'd be hard thing to do, to not feel too forced.

I think it's really tempting to round on 'grand villain jamboree' for a finale but given the series I just don't feel it would work as cool as it is. It's a game about Courts and Phoenix can't really defend people that much outside of courts.
Plus it's just too much at once and there'd be no surprise. They could do a prison murder and because all these sinister individuals were there it could resort to an interesting case of 'whodunnit' as all parties are equally sinister and capable.

Yes.
I know some of us are a bit skeptical about going overboard with the bigger and badder villains, but if we expect a satisfying finish, we need some level of intense suspense. Let the Jurist system make a return, only to be shut down yet again. (It's an ongoing process.)
The problem is, we've already seen how often Nick and his stupid mouth gets himself and his company into trouble with the villains, and thankfully, he's learned from it. We've already have a couple kidnappings, one of which was more suspenseful than the other, so they're starting to lose their impact. The death of a major character has yet to be done, but it would probably sound pretty trite. Godot, despite not being confirmed as dead, may as well be.
But, as often as we've seen it and it's happened once or twice to Nick, blackmail is actually still open. It's pretty effective at gradually ramping up tensions. We just need to change who's the target of blackmail; maybe have multiple victims in a case; or maybe have an escaped culprit upon finding the truth...
Eh, just for the heck of it: channel one of the secondary victims, if there are any. That'll make the Maya & Pearl fans happy.
I liked how they played a little split-up in Turnabout Quiz. We should get more of that now, Capcom; they have the manpower for it. Bonus points for an info-network system akin to that one Detective Conan game, where they can share information while investigating multiple sites simultaneously.
Throwing out ideas right now, but have no idea how to collect them together. More ideas, guys?

Athena removes her bandages revealing black hair in a bun; it's not Athena. Athena has died and Maya is now channeling her spirit so Athena could give the required witness testimony (and if you want to make this a heroic sacrifice, you can say that Athena pulled her own plug because she knew she wouldn't make it anyway but the only way she could get to the courtroom before the killer got away was by becoming a spirit that wouldn't retain the injuries she received on Earth)

But then there'd be a huge uproar from people saying, "This is just Yamazaki being so jealous of Takumi's work that he killed his favorite character just to spite him!" or something to that effect.

I think it could work as well. I like Maya (well, more in the first game than 2 and 3, though she's still not bad in those) but I've also been enjoying the four games without her where we get to know all the new characters. It does make sense for her to get killed off considering her role in these games has been muddy as of late. I do like your idea, but I'm just predicting unfair fan outrage

Either that, or I'd just have a hard time believing that the courts accepted a dead person's testimony. Though I have to admit, your idea sounded epic when I first read it.

Well, the courts did rely on Gregory Edgeworth during the DL-6 incident. Sure, it ended in failure, but I believe there was a line in 3-5 where Bikini said that spirit channeling was receiving some legitimacy now that DL-6 was resolved

And then the court realizes that the decisive testimony they received was from a dead person who legally has no rights, the entire trial is considered void, the killer goes free and everyone can't believe their failure. Either that, or I'd just have a hard time believing that the courts accepted a dead person's testimony. Though I have to admit, your idea sounded epic when I first read it.

It would sort of tie in as resolution considering Maya's own mother had the same problem with Gregory Edgeworth.
Then they could argue that as Maya was alive they could just call it 'second-hand' testimony and she was standing in lieu of Athena.

Ahem. I mean, it'd be hard to pull off as a genuinely noble sacrifice. Her death would have deep emotional investment to us fans, but to the series itself, it'll be pretty pointless. She just "disappears" out of their lives, and leaves them all miserable, but who would grow from it? Phoenix and Maya grew from Mia's death. Franziska grew from her father's. Maya rightfully ascended to her duties after her mother's death. What's in it for the rest of the cast if Maya disappears? A bad ending where "the miracle never happen".
Besides, Athena turning out to be a spy would be the much better twist. No offense to Yasu, but he's pretty dated by now. We can pull off another tribute in this series.

The latter case. I just think they would need to raise the stakes for the final case in a real powerful way.
Course the fact I'm reaching for it just to have impact means it's pretty cheap in it's execution would need to be a meaningful death.
