Aside from Terry Fawles, who's been incarcerated for an extended period of time, any client that you visit inside the detention center will still be wearing their street clothes (and in a certain someone's case even bring some brandy). Sprite recycling practicality aside, I wanna know if there's a logical in-universe explanation for this, or if you guys would have any theories to justify this rather odd practice. I've come up with some, but I'd like to hear what you guys think:

1) They do have jail uniforms, but they're simply allowed to put on their street clothes when meeting with a lawyer. Probably would help to look presentable so you can plead your case.

2) Though he or she is arrested, the paperwork for general population residence is incomplete and thus there's no need for them to be fitted with a jail uniform just yet.

3) They really just walk around prison in their street clothes because the jail doesn't want to bother giving them uniforms. Yeah it's weird, but this is the Ace Attorney universe. XD

4) The inmate is in solitary, which doesn't require him or her to wear a uniform. Would explain a certain gentleman we all know well and another traditional woman known for her tea and cakes, but who knows with everyone else?

These are just theories, and I'd love to see what you guys think or if there's an explanation you'd like to offer. And before you say it, I fully understand that Capcom wouldn't want to bother with redrawing a sprite wearing a prison uniform and it would take up too much memory. I just want to know how you'd justify this odd practice here.

I think it's safe to scratch number 2 off of your list. If you've played T&T, and you have to defend Maggey (again), she has been in the Detention Center for, what is it, a month? (haven't played the game in a while), yet she is still wearing her work clothes.

To answer your question. I'm thinking it's either 3 or 4.

I have no reasons of my own, seeing as I never really thought about it (it came to my mind, but I just let it pass :P)

IMO:
I don't think that there's a In-universe explanation, It would be boring and repetitive to see all of the defendants in the jail uniform.

Plus they probably didn't want to go through the trouble of making new sprites with the uniform.

Although, judging by how cases are treated with such little care in the AA universe (incompetent detectives, biased judges, etc.) it may just be that the detention centers don't give enough of a crap to give them uniforms. So yeah, basically #3. x3

I think it's because they've been arrested, but not yet convicted. If that's the case, then it fits perfectly with everyone (including Terry) but Maggey in 3-3... But that's still close enough xD

lol that's what I was gonna say! :)

Yeah and in most of the cases the defendant is arrested, taken straight to the detention center(not a jail), where they are questioned, and their trial is the next day (which, I'm pretty sure is highly unlikely in real life) . So there would be no need to put them in jail clothes seeing as they havent been convicted yet and it isn't even a jail.

Thats just my opinion though. :edgy:

Basically, they're only suspects and not convicted criminals yet. They could still be found innocent (and most of the time they are), so it wouldn't do to give them jail uniforms yet. Detention center =/= Jail.

And even if they are found guilty, the judge says something about appealing to a higher court. I don't know of that means before you get to make your appeal, you'd actually get taken to jail or if you get to stay in the detention center. Maybe it takes a while before you're transferred? (like in Maggey's case)

Spoiler: 4-4
though that doesn't explain Kristoph, when you visit him in his solitary confinement cell, he's still wearing his suit. That can be explained with "several of the guards are his friends", so he gets away without wearing the uniform. I mean, if they allow that bookcase and that plush chair in there.....

The AA universe's gods are too lazy to create jail uniforms.
