I think PLVSAA's 3D Phoenix is disappointing, that dead emotionless stare when he objects, I almost wonder if they are handicapping his intensity for Layton's sake.
However I think the proper GS5 models looks excellent!

At first I thought that change was...bad, but now after seeing some PLVSAA videos and playing Virtues Last Reward....I kinda like them.
Granted, the 2D will always have special place in my heart (curse the nostalgic value) but...I'm eager to see them on my own hands. (don't let me down with these two games now!! EU localizatioooooooooooooooon...!! ;_;)

But I'm sure I'd say the same thing, had the developers, like, updated Phoenix' sprite over the course of JFA and T&T.

I definitely like sprites, but after 5 primarily sprite based games, I'm looking forward to some real, smooth movement. Plus the models in GS5 look fantastic.

i too. i like 2d sprite more than 3d model but nowdays most game like visual novel game which has use 2d sprite was upgraded to 3d model like ace attorney and 999 you mention. for me i think 2d sprite is more look like anime and so colorful.
3d model is not bad i think because it will make character movement look smooth like ace attorney 5. but i prefer 3d model is nice to use in fighting game and not visual novel game. Btw between 2d sprite and 3d sprite, 2d sprite took a long time to make it pose by pose but in 3d model we just put the bone and move it like we want..
