Well, I've just started replaying the games. I'm literally only on case 2, GS1 but I've had to stop playing because I just can't get over Edgeworth. I understand his backstory. I get that he wants guilty, guilty, guilty as every verdict and that's his reason for being such a douchebag to begin with. BUT: he's a logical guy. A verrrrrrry logical guy as you can tell in every point he makes, so why the hell does he accept the, frankly, lousy and BS evidence that even a rookie lawyer like Phoenix can rip apart. Surely he should understand the evidence better and either demand the proper person be put on trial to begin with, or refuse to accept such stupidly put together cases?
Just saying.

Obviously this won't put me off going back to the game later. I'm definitely going to do the GS1-4, watch the awesome movie again and possibly play GK1 (maybe not thou as it's not my fav..) and by the time I've done all that...GS5 time!! Hopefully, probably.
Or maybe an even better surprise and PLvAA would miraculously be localized. I'll willingly do a Layton marathon as well :maya:

At that point he only cares about his perfect record, right? It's not until later he realizes how stupid he was for caring about something like that.

Besides, he still has a job to do. Don't forget people defend criminals in court everyday, and sometimes people prosecute innocent people as well - it's their job.

You know, that's what I always found so stupid in GS - I forget whether it was mentioned in 1-3 or 1-4 - when Phoenix was chewing Edgeworth out about prosecuting so intensly. And Edgeworth basically said, I'm paraphrasing, this: "The guilty will always lie to avoid consequences for their actions, Wright! I have to treat them all as guilty, to make sure that they get their just vedict in the end."

Translation, Edgeworth is simply doing his goddamn job, Wright.
I mean, Phoenix might have thought - and probably still thinks in GS5? - that his duty as a lawyer and defense attorney is to believe in his client's innocence. Which it is not, what a defense attorney's job is - on paper, whether it's their personal moral standard or isn't - is to defend their client and getting them off scott-free from whatever they are on trial for.

Sure I have nothing against prosecutors doing their jobs. And ultimately it's the police's *cough* :eh?: *cough* fault for being idiots and arresting innocent people. It's just the way he goes about prosecuting, especially in early cases. His logic is just so... illogical. You'd think to get a perfect record, he'd go for perfect evidence or at least be annoyed that there clearly isn't good evidence in the first place. But instead he acts as though all the facts lead obviously to the client's guilt, which if edgy used his brain he'd see it does the opposite, very clearly.
But I guess it's all just to make :edgeworth: seem as corrupt as possible, it just doesn't tie very well for me with his actual personality which above all is logical.

The judge should be able to notice that none of the evidence in the trials could lead to the defendant's guilt immediately, but well... the judge... everybody in GS is so dumb regarding the law, they'd probably be thrown in jail in the real world.

As for trying to make Edgeworth seem corrupt, well, that's just another problem.
It's the same as with Karma, constantly saying that he manipulates witness testimony, falsifies evidence, etc, etc, but we never see him actually do anything. Except for that autopsy report in 1-2, which technically could be correct (it depends where Mia got hit and how bad a skull fracture it might have been), we see him do nothing extraordinary that somehow proves that Edgeworth forged evidence or anything.

And I'm not counting 1-5, that was a terrible case.
