facing a bit of an issue.

I've been following Phoenix Wright from a distance for awhile now. Not owning a DS, I didn't have the chance to try it to begin with.

The interest started when my brother showed me the game. Eventually, I discovered "Phoenix Wrong" which lead to me discovering the Court Records site. After doing quite a bit of reading and running through the available manga, I think it's safe to say I'm interested in the series.

The issue is, the idea of a lawyer game itself does not sound all that "fun" to be personally. I'm more of an action-oriented game player, and the gameplay to this series just doesn't seem to hit home with me.

Should I try to give the games a try anyway, or continue to follow the series from a distance?

Sounds like you're not into thinking/puzzle/whatever games. If that's the case, then I guess you might just want to stick with the story. D=

It's SO addicting, but if you're not into those genres...

DO IT. DO IT. DO IT.

Seriously though, I had the same feelings as you did, but I was still hooked. Try it, you likely won't be disappointed. Especially considering your fairly considerable devotion to the series already.

OFF-TOPIC: Huh, this forum has a feature where if someone posts while you're posting, it warns you before your post goes up and lets you change your post. Awesome.

I'm guessing Lumines II doesn't count.

Last time I physically played a game like Phoenix Wright was... I think Carmen Sandiego back in 3rd grade.

I didn't even know how the gameplay worked in PW before I bought a DS and imported PW, due to so many people talking about it.

If you can appreciate good writing your can appreciate PW. It's the only game I've played that can be classed as funny.

Don't judge a book by its's cover. I used to think the same thing, but it's way better than it sounds. And it's not like the there's violence, you're just not the one commiting it lol.

Quite a few people were in the same boat (being mostly action-oriented gamers), yet it seems quite a lot of them liked the game(s) regardless. Even though it requires quite a lot of reading, the story is very well done and the gameplay is definately fun, even if it isn't normally your thing.

Funny thing about me liking this game is that I really don't like reading XD

You have to learn to really get into the stories if you want the full Gyakuten Saiban experience. The whole thing is basically one giant murder mystery. Keyword there: 'mystery', meaning you have no idea what will happen next, so you can only keep guessing.

But, that's just me speaking. Personally, I love suspense.

Most people that haven't played it aren't sure that they'll like it.

When I show my friends they all say: So you kill the witness? Or...

No, you justice them.

Then they lovingly refer to it as the game where you run around the courtroom yelling Objection.

Just try it. You'll like it.

Thinking back to it, I gamefly'd Ace Attorney before I bought it, and the first time I played it was in the dentist waiting room. I was caught off guard when the first word was Damn. In a nintendo game...Awesome. The rest was history!

Mega Man said the exact same thing in Mega Man X3. That was even more shocking to me than in this. The game got a freaking E Rating.

Since you're already interested in the characters and storyline, I'd say check it out. If someone weren't all that into the storyline, the gameplay wouldn't help them enjoy this game.

I may biased or something, but to me, the GS series has some of the most exciting gameplay I have come across. Sure, it's not particularly action-packed, but when you find out who the culprit of the case is and you keep contradicting everything they say and awesome techno beatz start kicking your ass and everybody's like OBJECTION OBJECTION TAKE THAT AARRRRGH! It's a beautiful thing.

But yeah, it's a text adventure, so if you can't get past that it will be tough to get into PW :)

It's all about the story and characters... the game is secondary, but hey, the story and characters ARE really good :)

ON TOPIC: I would buy the game if I were you. It is brilliant and you could also ask the store if you could exchnge it within a certain amount of time (I have a game store near me which does that.)

It's a really great game, honestly, if you buy it you won't be dissapointed :) I mean, I haven't gotten tired of it even though I'm stuck! That's a good sign :D
(I'd happily turn off the DS a million times to get past that case :3)

First off, Hello.. I'm new to the forums.
PW is probably one of my favorite series' of all time. I actually am mostly an Action Junkie.. but I also enjoy debating and law. As a fan of Japanese games and humor I was immediately hooked. The story is amazing but the actuality is that I play mostly for the courtroom sessions, because my dream has always to been to become a Lawyer, even before I played this game. Although it is quite far fetched from real life court, it still gives you a sort of representation of it. I would rec commend picking up the game, even if you are an action gamer.
Lol. I like the Huge sig thingy, it was cool XD.

That does help. If you don't find the jokes funny then the game looses part of its charm. I think most people find at least some of it funny though! I just giggle to myself while play and don't care who hears me. I also tried shouting into the mike once, but felt really stupid >.>;

Shouting into the mike is SUPPOSED to make you feel stupid XD I tried it too...

Honestly, if you're really into FPS then you may not want to buy this game. I think if you could be lent it by a friend first then you could see how you felt about it ^^"

You literally don't even have to try.

Before this, I played games of many genres: Action, RPG (Lots of them), etc. I hadn't played any text adventures. They were a bit before my time. However, I greatly enjoy and have a deep love for older games that have this old feeling to them that just isn't present in newer games. I'm talking Final Fantasy 1. Love the game.

Being that I'm a big book reader, and interesting plots and characters draw me in, I was happy as all hell to be playing this game. It moved my list of my favorite series. A list that remained unchanged for many, many years. I think that speaks for itself whether you'll like the game or not. Give it the shot it deserves.
