DAMN. AWESOME SOURYUU/GODOT X CHIHIRO COVER. MUST... GET!!!

I have got to get that! Not just because of the nice SouryuuChi cover of which I am a total fanboy of, mind you. It contains a GS4 Introduction, eh? Anything that includes GS4 would actually be enough to prompt me to buy it. :P

Such a shame I don't have enough money for it. I need a new job... -.-

I had a mug shipped here from Japan (you all know which mug it was), and it came to something like £10.

I got the first two fanbooks from ordering bulk lots from Amazon Japan, might be the way this time to save on shipping, spread the load. Shipping just the one item might be expensive.

Unless fanbook 3 is significantly different from those before it, I'd say it's not all that worth getting for someone who can't read Japanese. I can and I still don't like the first one that much. Yanni Yogi There's not much detailed character art and the only content really worthwhile is the 4koma at the back.

Naruhodo Gyakuten is much better, imo.

You are studying abroad in China? wow...

China's foregin-language bookstore (Xinhua?) usually take special orders for Japanese books, some of my friends used to order mangazines from them. But I heard(many years ago) the exchange rate is not cheap.

DO NOT use Play-asia if you can let Amazon Japan ship it for you, as Amazon Japan will have a lower price after exchange. Play-asia adds up the shipping from JP to HK into their price first, then charge you the shipipng from HK to China. Shipping from Japan to China is not as high as shipping from Japan to US, so I don't think you will be bothered by it if ordering from Amazon Japan.

NOTE ON AMAZON JP SHIPPING:

I've mentioned this in another thread before, but Amazon JP ONLY DOES EXPRESSED SHIPPING NOW. That means it's a MINIMAL 3000 YEN shipping + handling on ONE ITEM to North America. THAT'S ABOUT $27 DOLLAR ON SHIPPING. GO WITH PLAY-ASIA.

Play-Asia is indeed much less costly.

But unless you're a serious collector and plan to put them in a glass case, I don't see why you'd want them. They're pretty boring.

Bummer! Did not see that coming from Amazon JP I wonder if I will order from them again. Ack

Well, I just asked those friends...another source usually used by Chinese is ordering from Kinokuniya Book Web, Asia shipping for .5kg of books currently rated as 700 YEN. If you are able to read the fanbook to some degree you can get by the Japanese website to place an order. Minuki

http://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/

I have to say I have nothing against Play-Asia and I order from them on regular basis as well, but if there is a way to save some penny, I feel I should provide the information.

Hate to break it to you - but the GS4 LE is hard enough to come by in Japan (preorders sold out in matter of hours - and even MINUTES), so you probably could check that off the list... And if you can't read Japanese, you probably wouldn't really want the fanbooks since it's loaded with reading... There are a few yonkomas and pictures in the back, but for someone not familiar with the language, you're really wasting your money away...

Another place that one could consider ordering from is Yesasia, I believe they have free shipping worldwide for purchases over $40? I can't really remember... Anyway, their price is usually about $3-$5 more than the actual Japanese yen, so if you work out the math and think that it's still cheaper to order from Yesasia or Play-Asia, why not go with it instead of ordering from Kinokuniya or whatnot...? (I know Kinokuniya jacks the price up anyway...)

You got a problem with people in Asia not using xxxAsia stores? Edgy
I am merely providing possible less-expensive options, not forcing CantFaketheFunk to pick any. They all have their pluses and minues. Hope he will work them out before deciding which one to go for.

While for US and Europe, I would say xxxAsia stores are indeed much less trouble since their shipping and ordering services are good and easy to understand. It may not be the same for Asian areas. Stock(no, they may or may not import rare books for single request) and shipping cycle/status can get really ridiculous (according to Asian standards)...if the price isn't higher.

And Kinokuniya book web does not jack up the price (the actual physical store does) , unless you are mentioning the included tax. Last time I checked, many books has the same price as Amazon JP.

Please do not put words in my mouth. I've shopped enough bookstores in Asia to know better - both online and offline. I merely suggested Play-Asia and Yesasia because despite a small mark up on the book, the outcome is reasonable. That's also why I said if he doesn't mind the trouble, he could do some research and compare the price. Though I would advice him to have his package insured - and/or traceable due to packages getting lost quite easily and frequently in China. That, of course, would put his postage up. I'm not sure if Kinokuniya would offer that option - assuming no, you're still looking at a shipping that runs from 700-1,100 yen... I'd say that's quite a bit of shipping even for one book...

Also, it seriously is a waste of money if you don't understand Japanese and therefore, cannot fully appreciate the book, since it's loaded with writing. (And you'd also have trouble navigating the Kinokuniya JP page.) And if you just want to check out the artwork and manga, some nice person is most likely going to scan those images in.

Wait- Xinhua bookstore will special order Japanese books into their stores? I need to get there then- I'm looking for the fanbook too (yes, I know there's a lot of text- I'm learning the language, though). Of course, I'm not in Nanjing, I'm in Shanghai. But, how do I get Amazon Japan to ship stuff to China? Last I checked their stuff is all marked as "sorry, we ship this only within Japan".

Amazon JP ships books and CDs worldwide, you might be looking at things like toys and games... They don't ship those oversea... Just add the book into the basket and check out... You could check out and set up and account in English.

Oh, I see. I had an account set up and was trying to buy a replacement cellphone charger (I imported my cellphone from Japan and accessories are kind of hard to come by in China as far as I can tell). Thanks (but it's a pity that they only ship books and CDs internationally).

I'm in Shanghai until the end of high school (currently in 11th grade) because of some problems in the States (my parents are both locals of Shanghai). I go to an international school, though, so I don't know what local schools are like.
