Okay, I understand. Thank you.
So, any special advice? Are there certain things I should know before entering this field?
I had intended it as a joke, but they took it as sage advice.

well, this is coming from an inexperienced incoming college freshman...

but i'm pretty sure there are more sides to law other than defending and prosecting. there's civil/family law, real estate law, patent law, corporate law, international law, and...my ultimate but impossible dream: politics.

if only i knew how to start from law school and end up as a lawmaker. my impossible but awesome fantasy is to one day become a senator and do something to help fix the dump our country's turning into.

of course if that folds over, which is the most likely case, i guess i'll stick with being a divorce lawyer.

I admire the fact you want to be a divorce lawyer, and helping people in that area
I'm still liking the idea of putting a place up for people going into this/already are in the field of law so we can discuss it more, any one any ideas?

I think I might work in law, I'm not sure. Like ... on the forensics team. <3

But I don't really know ... l might get bored of it .. ? All I've ever really been into so far is art. I know I could never get tired of that, but my parents want me to be a lawyer or a doctor ... ;;;

Have to ask this, even that its going to sound stupid:
Is it common in America that parents 'want' their kids to have a specific job? Cause thats stupid, I think. I would never say to my kid, that I want him/her to be a doctor. What about, if they actually pick the job, cause I suggested it and then hate it?

Anyways, I'm pretty young to think about my career, but it could have something to do with english. Translator wouldnt be bad, cause I hate when they f*uck tv-shows subtitles up. Horrible, absolutely.
And then I like to write stories and stuff. But it goes as a hobby, if I dont get famous that is. =P

It's always good to think ahead.

Well ... all the kids I've met... their parents have wanted them to take a specific job, actually. I think it's kind of dumb, too. But my father said that no matter what job I take, he'll be happy with it if I'm happy. I think that's the best thing to do .. I know he'd like for me to be a doctor, as my mother would like for me to be a lawyer, but then they tell me, go with whatever makes you happy ... and brings good income. xD

I guess it might be good for some kids who have absolutely no idea what they want to be, but I think they'd end up with something in their mind eventually.

And yeah ... the whole 'if they picked the job and ended up hating it' would suck ... I agree with you there.

i'm asian. my parents raised me telling me they wanted a doctor in the family. all my cousins were told they HAD to be nurses. none of us are happy about it, but we figure it's a culture thing since a bunch of our other asian friends went through the same thing.

I guess I'm a lucky asian :0 I think I know why some classmates of mine used to eye me everytime I mentioned art school... Maybe they weren't allowed to take a major they wanted? :'< my parents told me they don't mind whatever I do, as long as it's still legal and I do it with a passion. When my mom chatted with my classmates' parents, she told me most of them wanted their children to take specific jobs... D: Parents need to be re-educated!!

I feel lucky now, because my parents have given me the freedom of choice of what field I'd love to go in. They just want me to get a good education and pass through college and be successful. My brother fucked up, and partied way too much, so he's had to work REALLY hard as a financial advisor and still doesn't have enough money to support his family.

I know I want to be a prosecuting attorney, and I'll definately be one in the future. If I have a goal that I REALLY want to achieve, I'll do everything in my power to meet it. I don't care about the workload, because if it's something I enjoy, I'll do it ^_^

And all the laws and everything don't bug me. I'll be taking a Buisness Law class this year in school, but I've already had quite a peek at the textbook and although it's very heavy, it's interesting :)

I guess PW had given me the idea, but I'm doing my research so I know it's a lot different in real life and I still want this.

That's good kristoph lover, good to know you want to achieve a set goal with a passion.

That's what I want to avoid, losing out on grades and becoming a checkout assistant or whatever

My education is important to me because I want to get a good wealthy job that I enjoy and will be able to pay for things.

The thing I look out for in most people is their intelligence, because I consider myself very intelligent so it'd be good to relate to people like that.

Intelligent women are what I also look out for no matter how good looking they are.

The above point was completely irrelevant but it's true

I'd love to dare you to have a franziska get up kristophlover xD sorry but it'd make my day seeing that.

Also to drunken hobo, sorry about missing your post on the idea!

I think its good
I'll try PM some people about organising this get together so to speak. But I've forgotten who wants in so it'd be good for people to PM preferably just to save time.

bare in mind real life justice system is VERY diffrent to pw's justice system also prosacutors earn more because they are hired by the state were as defence are hired by people not the state

Ouch, that's rough.

I make.... $8,916 a month. Is cost of living really cheap there?

Does that also depend on experience and what state you're in

I hear washington pays a lot for lawyers and if you've been there for 4 years rather then 1 you get a lot more

Experience and cost of living are big factors in salary. I don't know how it works for every state, though.

No...actually $200 is an extremely low salary. I don't know about the other cities, but $200 per month? Damn it's only $70 higher than the personal income tax free level. :zenitora: I believe that's why there are so many corrupt prosecutors in my country. To be honest, I can't blame on them.

And yet people seem to think becoming a lawyer is a bad thing.

Thanks for the answers tails, if there's anything else you can add about the experience, etc then I appreciate your input.

I think I'm going to be a prosecutor now as, by the salaries I've looked at, they are more wealthy then defense for some reason.

I'm about to take some tests to get into college to begin... Admittedly, I am slightly nervous. Still, most of the items on the tests are things I already know (I suppose that's why I'm advanced), so I should be set.

Then I'll be in college, and then from there it's off to law school. It seems my journey is about to begin.
I had intended it as a joke, but they took it as sage advice.

If I do, it won't be BECAUSE of Phoenix Wright. It's a lot...different.

No, it's a lot more that it's in my genetics. Both of my parents are lawyers. My dad was a prosecutor before we moved, and my mum is a defense attorney right now.

Well I don't really want to have a job in Law... but that's not the case with my sister. She's only just started Turnabout Succession, and Apollo Justice is the only Gyakuten Saiban she's ever played, but not just because of AJ, she's seriously thinking about Law for other reasons. Not just because Polly is one, but even with the lower salary, becoming an Attorney is one of the things she is thinking over.

Whatever she decides I support her :] (she's gr.12)
