(Don't mind the title. I just like alliteration. ^_^ )

So, I really hope this isn't just me, but has anyone taken a while to get some of the puns in the PW series? I am spectacularly slow at realising there is a pun sometimes.
Example: I finished the first case of Ace Attorney for the first time, oh...nearly six months ago now. Approximately THREE MONTHS LATER, I was thinking about it. My thought process went something like this:

"What was that guy's name? Frank Sahwit? Yeah, god that guy was-wait. Frank Sahwit, Frank saw i....ohhhhhhhhh!"

I have done that entirely too many times. It took me until after I had finished JFA that I realised 'ohhhh, I get it! BEN Trilo Quist! God I'm stupid.'
Or 'Lawrence 'Moe' Curls'. I was thinking as I was playing "So I can see Moe and Curly, but where's Larry? I (hours pass) ohhh!"

Please tell me I'm not alone in this. :sadshoe:
That apostrophe is preposterous! It's a preposterous apostrophe!

I didn't get the Moe joke until opening this thread. =O

More than that, though, I've noticed a lot of name puns don't make a lot of sense. They're just there, save for the occasional "Luke Atmey".

It took me forever to realize some of the puns because I'm slow when it comes to these things.

Ones I didn't get:
Frank Sawhit
Red White
Penny Nichols
Manfred Von Karma
Dustin Prince

And much much more that I'm too lazy to remember.

"Winston Payne" took me awhile...^_^;

I've been wondering about one...is Misty Fey supposed to be a pun? (Misty Fey, mistyfey, mystify...?) Or am I just reaching on this one?

Ben Trilo Quist = Ventriloquist.
Lawrence 'Moe' Curls = Larry, Curly & Moe, AKA The Three Stooges, a stupid TV show from... I dunno, some time ago.

I didn't get Moe's name pun until I came here and looked at the profiles. Same with Manfred von Karma. 8D

There was a pun on Winston Payne? I don't see i-ohhh!

Man, I didn't even REALISE that one. I just kept imagining Winston in Max Payne's shoes, all gritty and film-noir. :payne:

Yeah. Some of those name puns took me forever to figure out (I actually had to look on the site before I realized that Winston Payne one, and I didn't even get the Ben Trilo Quist and Lawrence "Moe" Curls ones until I read them on here...). The Misty Fey one? I don't think there is one. It doesn't sound like there's one. Maybe you should check on her profile...? If it's not on there...I dunno.

Penny Nichols?.. ahhh!
Blimey I didnt even know that was a pun until somebody posted that.
I didnt get the Moe gag because I don't know the 3 Stooges well.
As for "Misty Fey" I think it's a pun but it depends how you pronounce Fey. If you pronounce it like the "fi" in hi-fi" or something it sounds like "Mystify" which is fitting, Misty being a spirit medium and everything, y' know.
On the other hand :maya: and :pearl: aren't puns.
I got "Frank Sahwit" early on, Phoenix makes a joke himself when he calls him

Winston Payne and Ben Trilo Quist are the only puns I didn't catch right away, from what I recall.

Payne, well, it's a pretty normal sounding name compared to the other punny names in PW. As for Ben Trilo Quist, their names were never put together like that in the game, it was always "Ben and Trilo Quist"/"Ben blah blah blah Trilo etc.", so I didn't catch it until someone pointed it out to me. :sadshoe:

That's right. I always say it to myself when I first read the characters name. Works pretty well. I didn't get Ben but when I saw Trilo Quist I got that then I saw Ben again and I was like "OH I GET IT" ...also Moe's is stupid. :/

Yup, goes with his Japanese name of "Auchi", which is some form of "ouch" or "Ouchie!". I can't believe I just said ouchie.

Oh my god. I didn't notice Jack Hammer until the last post. This topic is both personally humilating and informative.

Actually, I want to go all the way back to the very beginning: how long did it take everyone to make the Nick = Phoe'nicks' connection?

It was about when Maya started calling him 'Nick' for me. :payne:

And now to state the obvious: Lotta Hart = Lot of Heart. This fits her quite well since when on the stand, that's really all she has. She has a lot of heart to be a witness, but she never actually witnesses the murder. :lotta:

I don't get Dustin Prince, someone care to explain? Or is it on the character page? >_>

I just realized this when I was halfway through playing case 2-4--Celeste Inpax is basically "rest in peace", since Celeste sounds like rest and "Inpax" sort of means in peace in Latin (technically it's "in pace"). Maybe even "she rest(s) in peace" or "(may) she rest in peace" if you stretch it a bit. For some reason that one's still my favourite pun/"funny name" in the game, followed by Penny Nichols.

Celeste Inpax's pun is actually a little more subtle than that...

Celeste = Celestial...as in, heavenly. { Well, yeah...given her being dead and all!}

Inpax = SOUNDS like Impact...since she WAS an impacting force on all involved. :P

It's a pretty smart Pun...and one that is easily overlooked, too - plus it's a beautiful name.

I believe that because of the fact that there are references to the French word 'Gant', aka Glove...and 'Damon' which is ALMOST like 'Damion'...a pretty evil name in itself, there's enough proof to show that Gant's is more 'two' puns in and of itself.

IE: Gant/Glove - the incriminating evidence that assisted in uncovering the 'situation' in case 5, AA1.
