It's great to hear feedback from someone other than my theater teacher, so this has been like a field day for me, haha!

WOO! Did some good recording today (instead of going to work, heh...). Comments and critique are greatly appreciated being that this is my Mia audition, FINALLY. :D
:takethat:
Justice For All - sung by Usei (Mia)
...I LOVE this song. A lot. The lowest notes are right at the edge of my range so I had to fake them a little. :P It was quite challenging in some areas--key changes and parts with some flexibility requirements. But it was SO much fun to learn and sing. :D Hope you all like my rendition.

Maya and Mia's Phone Conversation - FF3girl as Maya and Usei as Mia
(Excuse the volume, please. It's kinda quiet because we had to share a headset mic and had to talk really close to it. :redd:)

EDIT: AGAIN with the shared computers and posting as the wrong person >.< This is Shinkinrui

TriforceBun, each song you release is better than the last. This song is REALLY awesome- I can really see it being a recurring theme throughout the musical. You know that sort of choked up feeling you get when a song really hits you the right way emotionally? I actually got that towards the middle of this song- the part where she's talking about some prosecutors being dishonest and only out there for the perfect win. With how silly and fun a lot of the characters are in PW, this song is really the perfect counterbalance for that and captures Mia's essence REALLY well. I said it before and I'll say it again- YOU ARE THE MAN.

Also, if you find yourself bored with nothing to do, think maybe you could re-record the accompaniment for "The Kind of Guy You Can Trust?" The accompaniment sounded so much better with this latest song, made me really want a better recording of "my" song so I can redo Gumshoe(I call it "my" song because I'm really keen on the idea of playing Gumshoe, and this is obviously Gumshoe's song). If you do, could you possibly put a slightly bigger pause right after "unlike the client you had that day" so Maya has a little more time to say "Hey, that was me!" and I have more time to respond? Oh, and if you wanted to re-record for "The Samurai Always Wins!" I'd love that, too <3 Not a big rush or important on either of these songs, we've already got very decent recordings for their purpose, but it'd be cool. Thanks :D

In the meantime, everyone's having so much fun putting in their parts into my recordings of your songs I stripped them even more ... now "The Kind of Guy You Can Trust" has ONLY Gumshoe's part and "The Samurai Always Wins!" ONLY has Cody's part. Go to town, everyone!! It's awesome hearing the different versions!

"The Kind of Guy You Can Trust" with ONLY Gumshoe's part sung
"The Samurai Always Wins!" with ONLY Cody's part sung

I wanna hear some Edgeworths and Mayas, too! :D

I'd do an Edgeworth like people are suggesting, but I think his part in "The Samurai Always Wins" is too low for me... :payne:

Maybe if there's a higher Edgeworth part that comes soon, I'll record that.

As far as the distribution of songs, I think that the first act needs to close with a big number for Miles Edgeworth--a soliloquy if you will. Since at the end of 1-3, nothing else big enough happens for a song, it'd be a great time for Edgeworth to come out and show there's more to him than just being a one-dimensional rival. Big revelation kind of thing to really set up 1-4, I'm thinking. Songwriters, you know what to do!

...Hey, don't look at me!

Also, I think Manfred von Karma needs two songs--one, a solo that really defines the character, and the second would be during the courtroom finale of 1-4 with Phoenix and the others, a real showstopper. Just my opinion...

Actorman, it's a lot of fun hearing people try out my songs! I pretty much agree with ff3girl's comments. You did a nice job as Phoenix in both songs, but A Guy You Can Trust sounded a bit more accurate. I think when I initially recorded The Samurai Always Wins, I was a bit unsure of some of Phoenix's melody, so it doesn't feel quite as "set in stone" as, say, Cody's. Good job though, particularly on the acting.

Is there some sort of simplistic, easy-to-use sheet music program online that I could use to just splat some notes down for accuracy? I may just rerecord Samurai and make sure I don't stumble this time on Phoenix's part.

EDIT: Whoa! Usei was QUICK in learning that.
*listens*
That's frighteningly accurate and sounds wonderful. Like, it's really, really good. I'd like to hear more Mia tryouts, but this is definitely the one to beat right now, IMO. I only have one really tiny nitpick as the composer (and considering you hit all the notes correctly, that's impressive): I think you could put a tiny bit more power into the bridge (from "Some attorneys..." until "don't forget just what you're fighting for") and the second modulation ("We fight for all"), but it sounds great!

Shin, good to hear from you again. I was actually really considering doing a better recording for the first two songs, in fact. They should be up eventually, heh. And thanks for the kind words, it's thrilling to hear that you were even a little moved by it.

Someone else mentioned earlier a free program called "Finale Notepad." I downloaded it years ago, but I don't have it anymore. I'm sure you could find it if you google.

Yeah, like PhantomOtaku said, Finale Notepad is free and, while lacking some of the feature of Finale, it will definitely work for the purposes of just getting a rhythm down.

Can't wait to get my hands on some sheet music--I really enjoy the music you've written!

Finale Notepad has served me well for being a simple sheet music program in my college days (because I was too poor for the real Finale, lol). For jotting stuff down (and music theory homework), it works great. You can find a free download here.

EDIT: And thanks for the comments and critique, TriforceBun. The power issue is easy to fix with the mixing features in Audacity. I can amplify that part without having to rerecord (that was like my 5th time recording it before I got it right, lol), and/or take the other parts down a notch. I had also moved the mic away from me on that part (my voice is very strong and I was afraid of buzzing the speaker by being too loud). I love Audacity for its versatility, and the fact that it's FREE versatility. XD

LOL, They really weren't huge mistakes :P But yeah, you totally need to re-record it when TriforceBun releases the new recordings of the accompaniment :)

Actorman, I really liked your versions of Phoenix in the 2 songs ... I think you'd make the perfect Edgeworth, too >.>

Skankin', I hope I wasn't too harsh in my criticism. You're good enough that I feel you should be pretty confident about your talent and be able to take it, but I hope you weren't offended. I didn't have a problem at all with the readings, I just think the singing needs tweaking. I bet both you and Actorman will make some awesome recordings once the actual sheet music hits :)

I already told Usei how much I like her rendition of "Justice For All ..." but I should post it here, too. I agree with TriforceBun, Usei is the one to beat here. And if she can't BE beaten, I would be 100% happy with her being Mia. And I'm not just saying that because she's my wife :P

Oh, it's "Shink"? All this time I've been calling him "Shin"! Now I feel like an idiot, haha. It's mainly because I keep forgetting how to spell the full thing...

ff3girl (if that IS really you, and not Shin...k), go for it if you wanna try your hand at writing. Edgey needs a song like that, IMO. However, if you want to try something a little less nerve-wracking, funny patter-songs with simple, catchy melodies and non-sequitur lyrics are a great place to start. Just think about the events of the first game and if any particular point or character sticks out to you, think if that would be better expressed through song. Since the game is so story-driven, we'll need a few songs that push the story forward too, perhaps through a courtroom song or for instance, in Pennfalath's and your "Make it Right" tune which expresses both Maya's loneliness and Phoenix stepping up to be her attorney.

Whew, that's a mouthful. This project's getting pretty big in scale...I'm wondering what happens when we eventually take it to the "next level"...is it possible someone will be contacting Capcom or something about all this?

Alright, I Managed to Hear Actor man Singing the Samurai Always wins and Him doing Edgeworth.
I'd say he's very good, but He strayed to far from the Rythem in the Samurai always wins a bit to much, and sometimes Went to Fast, Like he was going to Cody's Rythem, but Phoenix's Notes and Lyrics.
And when you did get it right, you sometimes sounded too Young for Phoenix(Like, Your Voice was 6 years Younger then Phoenix or something)
But You WERE Very Good.

FF3Girl - Wow, Make it Right Sounded Great, However Maya Sounded a BIT Too Happy At the beginning XP,

Triforcebun - WOW! ANOTHER MASTERPIECE! I could Imagine the end of the Musical and all the Attorneys and Non-Murders come out and do a reprise of that song, Replacing all the "I" with "We" "Me" with "Us", You know, Because it Sounded amazing, my only Real Complaint is that Justice For all being the name of the second game, if there ever is a Sequel to Phoenix Wright the Musical, it would obviously be Phoenix Wright The Musical, [s]Music[/s] Justice For All, and that being the name of a song in the First one, would be kinda Weird, Alternative Song titles could be... "What we Fight for" Or "Fight for Justice" Or "An Attorneys Job", I Dunno, its up to you, but I think Justice for all is just to risky of a name.

Usei - WOW! That was a Amazing! Even better then Triforcebun's Sister who Sang the Song as the Example! WAY Better! and She was Good to begin with! But in the Call between Maya and Mia, for some reason Maya sounded OLDER then Mia, which is kinda Weird since Mia is Maya's older Sister(more then 6 years older)

As for the Topic of Episodic Releases as Opposed to one Big Movie, I think we should just finish writing it as one big Movie, and if it ends up being 5GB and 7 hours long we can get the Digital Scissors and Cut it into Pieces and Cut out unnecessary Parts.

I'd Really like to see Somebody Put up a File of the Samurai Always wins with All the Vocals EXCEPT Cody, Because I'm not that Skilled with Audaucity Yet and Having to Splice and Cut up Three Files Might be kinda Tough.

As for my Vocal Range, I used to have a very wide Range but Since My Voice Started Cracking I can't sing to high anymore, I can't Read Music so I can't give an more Details =P

I feel Larry should get SOME Sort of Short Song in case 1-1, like, a Really Short song, Bad just because Larry Needs SOMETHING. He's LARRY. Larry Butz!

Naive Wanderer, I just listened to your rendition of "Justice for All"... It was totally awesome. I feel the heat, woman. Definite competition. :toaster: I couldn't understand some of the words though, but I think that was the crappy mic you were using. You have quite a pure and powerful voice. I think you'd make a great Maya too... We have to remember that she's 17, and that she doesn't necessarily have a "young" voice. :P Anyway, you sound fantastic, regardless of that cold and your crappy mic.

I can hear FF3girl upstairs, recording her own rendition of Mia now. XD

Thanks a lot, Usei, I quite liked your recording as well! :D Your voice is very clear and pleasant. And yes, the mic sort of mutes my diction a little, but I also have slightly poor diction anyway and get reprimanded by various voice teachers. :P So I'll definitely keep that in mind for next time!

Haha, I'd say there's quite a lot of competition in general on this board, from the sheer amount of talent! But I'm having tons of fun hearing everyone. :)

Oshi- Naive Wanderer is really awesome singing that song, too! o.o

But my vote is still with Usei.
Spoiler: Of course, if you pressed me ...
I'd be forced to say that part of the reason I like Usei's better is that she's my wife. Yes, I'm biased a bit this time. Fine, I'll add it to the testimony.

Time for a Mia-off!!!

Test 1) Who can sound more like a motherly figure to Phoenix and Maya?

Test 2) Who has the better "Objection?"(for the objection song! :D)

Test 3) Who has the bigger set of- *gets slapped and killed by every girl in this thread*- WHAT?! I was gonna say vocal cords! I swear! :hotti:

Anyway, yeah, this project is really starting to generate a lot of momentum. It may be time to start seriously considering what someone suggested earlier- having our own small website and forums. It would be a lot easier to keep track of everything that's going on if it were organized into different topics within the board.

And, finally, here you go, Jeshi ... let's hear your Cody :D

You ladies are kicking serious Butz with that song. It makes me glad that there are five or six major female roles in the play.

ff3girl - Your recording sounded great! I liked your little variations on the melody. :) Haha it certainly is at least a three-way war at this point! :P

Oh god, if it was a "real-life" show and they actually casted based on bust size than I would have absolutely no chance!!! And I'm sure you all wanted to know that. :P

Hahahaha... little do you know that I would win that war...! *cough* Again, something you didn't need to know... ... *is ashamed of herself*

Thanks for the compliments, all! I really like Usei and NW's recordings too... I think at this point we should be satisfied with whoever gets it, since I think we all do a pretty dang good job. (OK, I admit I'm biased toward myself and my sister-in-law, but I'll find a way to make it through somehow if NW gets it. I'll just have to find out where you live... mwahahaha..!)

XD If this WAS a Live Musical The Director might actually Cast Mia based a little on Bust Size, I mean, Mia's Breasts are HUGE, She has to put Bandages under you clothing to hold them up!
Replay 1-2 and don't tell me that they are abnormally Large, If one wanted to make oneself look like her they would probably need Plastic Surgery XD.

=3 All I can hope for myself getting in the Musical is that My mic doesn't get Lost in the mail.

Jeshi had commented that FF3girl's Maya sounded older than my Mia did, so we recorded the same scene again with roles reversed. I'll post the link for the first version again for comparison.

Mia and Maya phone conversation - FF3girl as Maya, Usei as Mia
Sorry again about the volume. You might want to turn the volume down between this one and the next. XD

Maya and Mia phone conversation, this time with FF3girl as Mia and Usei as Maya
Sorry about the random mic noises throughout this whole recording. We sat even closer to the mic to try and make ourselves louder, and as a result there are lots of breath noises. XD Ah, well, lol.
Tell us what you all think about who makes a better who. We'd really like to know. :mia-maya:

The Second clip was VERY Choppy for me, but from what I COULD hear, in my Opinion Usei makes a better Maya and FF3Girl makes a better Mia, at least, when it comes to Speaking roles :P

But thats really up to you.

It's friendly competition, friendlyyyyyy! xD

I agree, though, I'm sure whoever ends up being chosen for whatever role will be right for it. :)

Alright guys, I gave a shot at reading some of Cody's lines and made another recording of Samurai. Tell me what you all think and don't be afraid to be a little mean!

Some Cody Lines!!!

Take 2

Thanks guys! ... Also, you might want to turn down the volume for the Cody lines. I was a bit loud. :cody:

EDIT: If you're reading this post for the first time, don't bother clicking on Take 2 of Samurai. I have a take three up with TriforceBuns remake of the accompaniment.
