I don't think Phoenix really meant anything by it, or maybe has some strange reason for it all of his own. The problem is, I have no idea; despite getting to see Phoenix's thoughts through the games, I can't really imagine what it's like in his headspace. (Which is one reason why I don't really write fanfic involving him. :yogi:

That happens a lot in fandom. And I agree with that assertion--no, there is no concrete proof that Edgeworth is gay, bisexual, straight, furry, what-have-you. But heteronormative assumptions drive me insane.

And the chemistry he has with Phoenix is undeniable, so if he in any way is inclined toward men, that pairing starts to crackle.

This is true. I was good friends with someone where the communication just completely stopped one day, and I never knew why. Even more of a blow was that they were around, but suddenly their new friends were way more important than all the cool times we had together. So I guess I can kind of see how people might think the emotion associated with it has to be romantic in nature, because it does feel like being dumped, but to this day I have no sexual interest in this person. (And yes, I'm a girl and he's a guy.)

All I know is that no one would stop whatever they were doing and rush to another country just because he heard that one of his friends were hurt. Miles Edgeworth did this. Not to mention he pretended to be a defense attorney JUST FOR HIM.

I do believe we can come to the conclusion that Edgeworth is COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY GAY for Phoenix. Gay gay gay gay gay.

And we fangirls love it. >w<

Exactly. You said a few posts back that heteronormative assumptions drive you nuts and I am right there with you. Their setup is that of a love story, and compelling love stories aren't always hetero.

Imagine for a moment that the game writers had made Edgeworth female, and the plot was the same. If it were a guy chasing after his female childhood friend and gallantly rescuing her when she was in trouble, fewer people would deny that it was romantic in nature because it fits very well into what they are taught to expect.

I don't see PxE personally, I love to imagine Edgey and Gummy together. Of course, they aren't pared together in the game, but they're (almost) friendship is so adorable and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside XD

I'm going to hold my ground and say that I think Miles is more bisexual than he is gay though. Because I can totally see him dating girls as well.

I can't usually see Edgey with girls. And since I know I enjoy Phoenix/Iris, I stand my ground on the belief that Phoenix is bi.

I don't know... it just doesn't seem he's really all that into girls. :/ I have seen a few cute pictures with him and a girl but besides that, Edgeworth is gayer than fruit cake. XD (Bad comparison-maker...)

I'm two years into my undergrad in the biochemistry department. I work in the sub-basement of LSE. Two years left. And I knew your name looked familiar; you've reviewed my stuff on Objection!, haven't you?

This is my head-canon, for what it is worth: Phoenix is bi, Miles is gay, Godot is straight. Just my interpretation. I can make no formal assumptions since none of the characters has sat down and chatted with me about their orientations.

Don't forget he might be asexual, that is attracted to neither gender, or that he could just have great control over his romantic feelings. Also, when he's always going on about "WRIGHT WRIGHT WRIGHT" in 3-5, it has to do with the fact that he has to consider what Wright would do if he was a defense attorney. As for looking into what Iris was hiding from Phoenix, thats because he's his friend and cares for him a lot. Thats why I discount the Phoenix/Maya shippers who go "Phoenix ran across the burning bridge because he's in love with Maya". That is a possibility, but I guarantee he would have done the same thing for any of his friends, such as Edgeworth or Larry. Wouldn't you do that for your friends?

I have a pet theory on Edgeworth's sexuality though, and it all goes back to Manfred von Karma. Obviously Manfred didn't care about Miles at all, only about shaping him into a prosecutor as his revenge against Gregory. Now the way it sounds, he was probably raised as a perfectionist, and that feelings were for weaklings(more on this later). It was probably beat into him everyday, and he probably had no relationships outside of Franziska(as she also lived there). That becomes clear as he clearly has trouble just being with people outside of court(see how he interacts with everyone after the 1-4 and 1-5 trials are over, he can't express himself at all).

He may have started feeling feelings of love but he wouldn't have known what to do with them, and Manfred would actually have squashed them out. Think about his pre-disappearance self. He didn't care about anybody, or even truly following the law. He only cared for his win record, and getting defendents guilty. He was the definition of a workaholic(he still is, but now he will at least be with people) He even says in 1-2 or 1-3 that emotions are only things that serve to get in his way. He obviously didn't come to that on his own. It was from Manfred. And I think it just became a part of his person.

Well, yeah. We're not here to rule out any possibilities, just discuss possibilities. And regardless of his orientation it's evident he does exert great control over his own emotions.

Amigo? As far as I can tell, we aren't accusing anyone of anything, here. First of all, it's our opinion that Edgey is gay/bi, and second, it's a game. He doesn't technically exist ~~though most of us probably wish he did...~~ and hence we aren't accusing him of anything. We happen to like the idea of Edgeworth being gay, you happen to not, and that's that. I apologize for any offense caused.
