Is that 'LAH' as in 'loss' or as in 'lay'? I've always always always pronounced it 'lay'. And I AM the Lana authority. Jk, jk. But, seriously. I could be wrong. But I don't think so. :edgeworth: :godot:

I don't really understand what you're asking, but it's 'LAH' as in 'LAH'. According to the list, it's "LAH-nah", not "LAW-nuh" or "LAY-nuh".

So, is Ema EE-muh or EH-muh? I always figured that if it was the latter it would be spelled Emma.

Olga is pronounced wrong. In Russia it's supposed to be pronounced as "ol-yah" or "o-yah'. I'm serious.

Now, I speak almost no Russian, so I could very well be wrong, but "Olga" is "Ольга," not "Олья," correct? I'm pretty sure that "Ольга" transliterates almost exactly into "Olga." A character in a Russian opera I have a recording of is named Olga, and I've heard it pronounced "Ольга," not "Олья."

And don't say that the singers just had bad accents; they were native speakers.

Moving on, I also pronounce Ema with a long "e" instead of a short one. My sister uses a short "e," though.

Also, Ben's last name is Woodman, not Woodward.

And I'm pretty sure "Furio" is pronounced "FOO-ree-yo," not "FYOO-ree-yo."

And from what little Spanish I remember, I am certain that "Diego" is pronounced "DYAY-goh," not "dee-AY-goh."

Finally, Machi's name is heavily open to interpretation, considering that there is no information on what older languages the Borginian (Borginese?) language stemmed from. There's also the matter of transliteration. I've often heard foreign names mispronounced because of bad transliterations. I've always treated is as a Slavic language, so I pronounce his name "MAH-chee toh-BAH-yeh." Still, as the language is a mystery, there is no perfect way to pronounce his name unless Capcom gives us a pronunciation.

I've always pronounced "Olga" the way I've always heard it pronounced, even by people who speak the language: ole-guh.

And Maya has always been "may-uh" for me. "my-uh" just doesn't sound as good.O_O

Klavier is GERMAN, so it's kla-feer.

Machi is debateable

And yes, it's My-uh.

The Wiktionary entry for Maya shows the pronunciation. I've always considered her name to be derived from the name of the ancient civilization in Mexico, but according to the Wikipedia entry for Maya as a given name, "May-ah" is also a legitimate pronunciation.

On a related note, the only official pronunciation of Mia is "Me-yuh".

A lot of people think Klavier is just pretending to be German, so it could be pronounced lots of ways, much like "Olga", who's not even really Russian and changes how her last name is pronounced after that fact is revealed. And while Machi may be "Maki" in Japan, that does not neccesarily mean that is how his US name is pronounced.

I don't care if you want to pronounce it Maki, but that statement's wrong.

"CHI" is generally pronounced "CHI", but such is the nature of the English language that adding letters changes the pronunciation. A "CH" with a vowels before and after it changes the pronunciation; you have to think of it as "ACHI", not as "CHI". "ACHI" would normally be pronounced "AW-shee" or "AH-shee". Phonetically, his name is "MAW-shee".

Head's up--your pronunciation for Machi is wrong. It should be "mah-kee toh-bye" per the Japanese game.

Sahwit as SAW-it? Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. Because you're making the 'w' silent at a really awkward place in the word. I mean, I understand the whole pun argument, but there is just no way you can look at the name and not want to pronounce the 'w.'

I say it's SAW-wit. Or SAH-wit, whatever. Just put the damn 'w' in there.

...You're not making the w silent at all. You read it as "Sahw.it"
Sahw and Saw would be pronounced the exact same way.

Osmo is talking phonetics here, Bendilin. You also have to remember stresses -- saying it as "sahw it" is putting the em-phass-iss on the wrong syl-lah-bull.

Even so, "saw" and "sahw" are not pronounced the same way. The h alters the sound of the preceeding a; the w does nothing. "Sahw" would be pronounced something like "sah-wuh". The w sound is there no matter how you split up the syllables.

I feel like pronouncing "Ema" as "Emma", but since there's only one "m", should it be pronounced more like Eema(/E-ma)?

Олья transliterates into Olya, while Ольга transliterates into Olga. So yes, you were correct.

As for me, I say Frank Suh-whit. Like the word 'whit' or 'Whitney' or 'Whitman.' While that doesn't sound like how I say 'Saw it' in my particular dialect, it is close enough to work for the pun.

I always pronounce Machi with a soft 'ch'. Like Mashi. Maybe that's because I speak Arabic, and depending on the tone you use, "Mashi" can mean "Walking" or "Nothing". Well, in the Lebanese dialect it can mean "Nothing". So I'm just used to hearing the soft ch, so that's how I pronounce his name. =P

I've always pronounced Lamiroir as Lah-mir-wahr. It seemed like the prettiest way to say it. xD

Oh! Also, in Arabic, Maya is pronounced "Ma-yuh". The "Ma" is like the ma in "man". Some people pronounce it very heavily, like "Mah-yuh", but I pronounce the Ma lighter. Again, only because I'm Arab. =P

I pronounce Ema like you would Emma. I always thought they were pretty much the same name, just spelled differently. I think Ema looks cooler anyways. =P

Er, that's all for now. =D
