And yeah, another thought occurred to me just before, too: just because they don't hook up in the games doesn't mean there aren't avenues left open to suggest they might outside of that. :)
Hell, look what people did to the Harry Potter series, and by the end of it, Harry and Draco seemed pretty damned heterosexual in canon (even though I shipped them hardcore).

However, depending on how much of faith you put into "word of God" as canon, saying "never" kills that tension just as badly as saying "yeah, they're a couple." Of course they're never getting together in-game, but saying it like that makes it sound like there's no possibility for the characters at all. I guess I'm the kind of fangirl that likes all my fangirlish thoughts to fit into the continuum of canon as nicely as possible, and I read a creator's "never" as "never ever, in-game or otherwise." It's like anti-ship-teasing.
And that's terrible.

I'd hate to put anyone involved in AA on the same level of terrible as Lex Luthor, but it is pretty heinous.
Thanks for the context of the quote. I'm too lazy to do my own research. The thing I love about these games is that you can ship just about any which way without it being solidly confirmed or denied. A straight up denial seemed like a sad thing.

*nods* Thankyou for that... and yep, that sounds about right to me: they don't want to be seen as making a lawyer dating sim. :) Which strikes me as entirely fair enough.
I do like that they seem completely blase and unbothered by people slashing their characters though. Having seen some writers throw shitfits about it (anyone else read Robin Hobbs' essay about it?) the Capcom folks are sounding pretty damned awesome. I mean, that "Use your imagination," didn't sound at all discouraging.
I wonder if, in a way, they're also trying to prevent disappointment for fen when they don't hook up in-game. Sorta like they're being upfront about it now.

I don't think either Nick or Edgey are -generally- gay (I'll stay on Edgey since it's the topic about him)
But... as You can clearly see, I do ship them as a couple. Edgeworth might not be gay for everyone... but, in my opinion, he -could be- (because whether he really is, we might never know) GAY for Phoenix.
I absolutely agree. I think the best there is to all these games, in the matter of couples, pairings etc., are all those blanks left for fans to fill as they please. You could work out pretty much any pairing, and still make it sound right and it's -only- because hardly any character is married/engaged/whatever.
I mean... fans would be left to only write/draw things about how they live happily together or how they break up.
So... I'm happy with everything, as long as both Edgey and Nick are single <3
