ahh, seriously?! I don't remember that, but I made my second account three years ago so that's probably why XD;
as for italics, I think there's an option for it if you upload the document and then edit it on the site. Like, you can highlight the part you want and click the italic button. Of course, if you're uploading Word docs and put the italics in the document before you upload it, it will carry it over to the site (but not show up in the document editor, which is frustrating).

Yeah, it's probably more gratifying to ship P/E in terms of the fandom, it's more popular, and there's far more stuff, and it's hotter...
But as for cute, adorable and touching, this pairing can't be beat. After 3-5 I knew I was totally convinced. These two must be together. I read some people say that their real OTP of this series was platonic Phoenix and Maya and I realised that that too was my 2nd favourite preference in 'pairings', after the romantic Phoenix/Maya. So I just love these two together.

There's an online document editor on ff.net with an Italics button. But you can upload docs as Word or HTML, And if it's HTML it's using <i>. If your fic's a direct follow-up to 'Slaps...' maybe have it in the same thread here on CR?

I think it was some time during JFA. I think it would be after Nick got his memory back at the end of the first case, at least for him, because I think it kinda made him look at Maya in a different way, if that makes sense. When he expressed willingness to make "new" memories with her, I get this little feeling like he's willing to start a "new" kind of relationship, too, even if he's not entirely conscious of it (because we know how thick Nick can be :3)
And then suddenly Maya's accused of being a killer and Nick defends her without question--I mean, yeah, they're BFFs, but I feel like he has even more invested in it. And, consulting icer's evidence list, during the investigation of 2-2 he thinks to himself "And even though the weather is gorgeous today, it's raining inside my heart..." I think the word choice is important, since talks about his heart and that tends to be associated with romantic things :D
After that, things progress until Maya's kidnapping, which obviously took a heavy toll on Nick.
But it's weird, because I can't quite figure out when Maya started liking him. I mean, it certainly seems like she felt at least a LITTLE something for him during JFA, but there's nothing I can pinpoint. I think the problem is because you never know when she's being serious, and since we only have Nick's thoughts it's hard to know what others are thinking XD;

No, no, that's not crap and I get what you mean, but I think he was doing that more to help Mia than Maya, IMO. Like if he couldn't save his mentor the least he could do was try to save her little sister. But I think after that was when he started seeing her as a separate person from Mia, and more like a friend (and then more THAN a friend :3)

Actually, I think there's one tiny piece of evidence that may help. Now we all know that Pearl is convinced Maya and Nick are special someones, and my theory on why is that by the end of 1-4, Maya had developed a crush on Nick (I think it's plausible. I mean, you spent months with a pretty decent-looking guy who's smart and saved your life, and you're sure to develop feelings for him) and so when Maya returned to Kurain, she talked about him non-stop, giving Pearl the idea that they were dating. Unfortunately Maya forgot to mention that Nick didn't feel the same way. Due to this, I think that by 1-4 Maya had a crush on Nick, and by the end of JFA she truly loved him.
As for Nick, he definitely felt something for Maya after 1-4, as he didn't take cases for 2 months after she left, and only took Ema's case because she reminded him of Maya, but I don't think he realized how deep his feelings were until at least 2-1 when he got his memory back, like you said.

Ah yes, I can totally agree with everything you wrote there! Heh, thanks for adding that about Maya, I hadn't really thought about it that way. Teehee, yes, I also think she had a crush on him then too~ X3
And yeah, it's kind of hard to say what exactly Nick felt back then after 1-4; I hold back on saying he felt any actual romantic feelings towards her since she was only 17 and I know some people are creeped out by that type of thing. Plus I see Nick as a decent kind of guy who'd wait til someone was of age :D Which happened in JFA, yay.

For Maya, I seriously think it's after he goes and stops her leaving at the train station in 1-4. [Cause her return with JFA starts the canon shipping-hints]. Before that, she's devoted to him for saving her and wants to help him, but that's when he proved to her it's her he values, not just her ability to channel Mia and whatever, and she's obviously extremely touched by that, [basically averting Maya doing a Misty Lite] going off on her training sabbatical just so she can return to help him as an 'adult' hehe. And that scene is serious. They do have some serious scenes together and they reveal volumes.
2-2 is very pivitol in these two's relationship. And definitely worth multiple replays
And has more of those serious scenes, like Phoenix getting so emotionally upset when he's in his total belief that Maya is innocent but has no reasoning or evidence yet to support it and Maya herself is convinced she did it.2-4 is all the evidence we need that Maya genuinely loves him (and the hints throughout the series frame it in a romantic component). I mean, this is huge. She's kidnapped and is likely to be killed if Phoenix doesn't get Engarde innocent, and will be freed if he merely gets Engarde the innocent verdict. But she spends the entire time thinking of Phoenix (as her picture proves) and then just explicitly demands he get Engarde guilty instead of saving her, holding out some faith he might be able to save her regardless, but her letter is clearly a possible goodbye - she tells Pearl to look after Phoenix for her, so she's definitely willing to sacrifice her life for his sake. [And if her willingness to sacrifice is only 'sibling' love, why is she so embarrassed about admitting it?]

The way I think is this...
In 1-2 and 1-3 they developed some sort of affection, but not romantic.
It wasn't until after 1-4 that they realized how much they really love each other.
2-2 had the first real PxM moments, but then the events slowed down, until 2-4.
Their first sex might have been between GS2 and GS3.
Again, that's the way I interpreted it.

The Youtube videos don't show every possible interaction. Like I bet they don't present every profile and valid evidence to every char every time. It's more a walkthru. And the scripts are missing for some cases.

As for the discussion at hand..I reckon that in the first game it was more friendship, sort of growing into URST for the next two games.Or maybe URST is the wrong way to put it..it's less sexual than just plain adoration for each other I guess.
In GS4, we don't know anything about Phoenix's intentions, activites etc so he could be doing pretty much anything, in between organising the Jurist System.
