I THIRD A GUNTHER CAMEO APPERANCE! Gunther is awesome.

@Greg: Concerning terra-forming, that's why I added that it would take take a long time for the process to be complete. Perhaps as much as a generation or two, to keep planet numbers down.

Also, I can really see your point about Morgan, and I like it far better then mine. It makes a lot of sense when you look at it like that.

I know the Fusegi is a primarily military alliance, but I was just thinking about another way to show how their different from the way the Saiban Federation works.

Hey, does this universe use flags? Because I keep trying to imagine what the ones representing the Saiban Federation and Fusegi Alliance would look like.

I don't know if Funk has changed weither or not Gyakuten MECHA takes place in one solar system or multiple, but my inner amateur!astronomer has awakened.

Warning: TL;DR rant about the possibility's of having a single solar system aheed!

One Solar System:

Personally, I'd put the maximum of planets and moons that are inhabited at 15-20. But that's probably way to many by by most people's counts.

Like Funk mentioned, there is a "life belt" in each solar system where the temperatures are neither too nor nor too cold, thus making them able to support life.

The problem is, with an average solar system like our own, there are nine (I'm keeping Pluto) formal planets, but off these only three are within what is considered the life belt. And the only planet that has life on it currently is ours. Mars and Venus, the other two, are too near the edges of the life belt to support life anymore, if they ever did.

Trying to fit a bunch of planets into a relatively small place is asking for disaster. The gravity would be too much on them; small planets would be ripped to pieces when others aren't colliding into one another.

To widen the life belt, you would need a large and bright star. While this could considerably shorten the stars lifespan, we're not counting in billions of years here.

So I would imagine in this case Gyakuten MECHA has a very large solar system. Depending on how close to reality you want this I nominate the star Vega.

http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=13122

Elysium, the Saiban Federation home planet would probably be in a prime spot of the life belt, which would explain why it's so lush and beautiful.

Spoiler:
The other planet Funk mentioned in her summary, Demeter, is also in a prime spot, but closer to the sun to account for a warm climate. How close depends on weather or not Funk choses for it to be forest or jungle.

I would also think that there would be more moon's around larger planets (so that the moons are large enough so that they have the gravity to hold an atmosphere.)

Lastly, if there are any civilizations outside of the life belt they would either have to be domed or be space stations/colonies.

One last technical thing though, and then I'll stop. All the talk about asteroids in the story has been nagging a me. From what I've gathered there are several asteroid clusters floating around, and not a belt, like in our system. That could...be a problem.

Here's the thing about asteroids. They have the possibility of smashing into planets even if they do revolve around the Sun Vega stars. This can be REALLY BAD NEWS LOLZ for life--just ask the dinosaurs.

Now I know this is the future, and that danger can be explained away with a simple "They have the technology to vaporize these things before they become a danger", but I don't know. There's a war on, and I don't think many people are watching the sky for rouge asteroids.

Kwoiffei had the idea of there being a large gas planet. Which while it would indeed make a great spot for a battle, it more technical terms it could be this systems Jupiter.

Jupiter, as you poor souls who have completed an Astronomy course (yuck) is vital to our solar system because of it's massive gravity. It's pull mostly manages to capture most objects so that the Earth is hammered a lot less by large space rocks, then we would be without it.

And I'm done. Have I made you suffer enough? Godot

We need an offical list of planets. Seriously.

Edit: Thank you Urby, for pointing out that embarrassing oversight. My lack of sleep is showing.

There are a large number of Street Fighter puns I could probably make here, I'm sure, but my mind's gone blank.

When you mention life belt, does that include advanced technology making artificial, synthesized habitats? I know some planets would have too high or too low a temperature for even machinery to cope with, as well as the aspect of gravity. It would be no use having a biodome (or some such technical term is) that could stand the temperature but be crushed under it's own weight because of the gravity.

Oh, and also would the whole 'DL-6' asteroid belt thing require a certain level of gravity? I'm really very unknowledgable when it comes to astronomy Payne

Don't worry about it; most of my knowledge of astronomy comes from reading books, articles, and watching specials on the science channel.

A planet's own gravity is determined by it's size. Indeed, if a planet's gravity is too great it's impossible to build anything on a planet because it would collapse under it's own weight.

Quote:

That's what I mean by terra-forming. Naturally, not all the planets in it would have an atmosphere that humans could breathe. Phoenix

I would think in it's most extreme form terra-forming is literally creating an entire planet with a breathable atmosphere from scratch (those asteroids are useful for something all right!). I don't know if the technology in this story is that advanced though. And if it was, it probably would take generations before one was complete.

I have the same question as you with the 'DL-6' asteroid cluster. I would thing that clusters of asteroids could form in a solar system. I'll have to go looking to see if there's more info.

But um, it might not be that important in the end. Breaking the laws of physics is nothing new in sci-fi, and the plot is always more important. Gant

Yeah, Empy, those are exactly the problems I was seeing. Which is WHY I was wanting to make it a "multiple systems" thing. Also because if it's a war, there's territory, and since different planets have different rotation speeds around the sun, it would mean that a planet that was Federation held might just end up in Alliance territory which wouldn't be good. >.> It's just headache-y. :P

(Also, I'm male. Not female. *cough*)

I'm TRYING to keep it just the original PW cast for now, with no OCs :P But we'll see later!

Zizzo - Mia in flight suit is smexshy. I want one.

Also, I was thinking that the "asteroid clusters" were actually like... mini asteroid belts that form around the gas giants in the system. Something like that.

(If you'll notice, a bunch of the mechs way back on page 2/3 have the designation DL-6## or SL-9## >.>)

Official Planet List, so far?

Elysium - Lush and beautiful, official Saiban Federation home
Demeter - Also quite fertile, very productive on the foodstuff front.
Muspel - Big gas giant
Yggdrasill - another big gas giant
Odyssey - Planet with a lot of water, and only two or so small continents.
Calypso - One of the moons of Odyssey. ??? Climate
(other moons: Penelope, Nestor?)

Possible others: Hobbes, Texos?

five hours until train ride of not fun :(

It's probably your forum image that puts everyone off Maya Fey Do you get the gender confusion a lot?

If we're in need of other planets, the only types I can think of would be a very minor planet for Lotta's Southener/Osakan accent (She is Osakan in the japanese version, right? It's always made into a Southener accent in dubs and translations) or a New Los Angeles, to go with the cliché. Then again, she could come from Texos, since it's Texan accents are southern. (If I'm getting any of this wrong, please forgive me, I'm english)

And, uh, this is just for reference:
Elysium - (Greek) A section of the Underworld which was the final resting place of heroes and the virtuous.
Demeter - (Greek) Goddess of agricultural and earthy domains. Also referred to as Mother Earth.
Muspel - (Norse) Realm of fire. Also referred to as Musoelheim. The opposite of Niflheim; the water plains.
Yggdrasill - (Norse)A incestuous half-elf Elvis James Arnold Taylor whut Considered to be the 'World Tree' that connects the nine worlds of Norse cosmology. Means 'Terrible Steed' or 'Odin's Steed'.
Odyssey - (Greek) A stupidly long poem by a dead Greek guy who had too much spare time. Sequel to the Iliad.
Calypso - (Greek) A naiad (water nymph) who lived on the island of Malta. Also a moon of Saturn.
Penelope - (Greek) Wife of the main character (Odysseus/Ulysses) in Odyssey. Name considered to mean failfuthness.
Nestor - (Greek) An argonaut who faught centaurs. Appears in the Odyssey and the Iliad.
Texos - (Texan) A parody of Texas. Purely for the pun 'They shoot you for that on Texos'.
Hobbes - (English) A philosopher who became famous for his political philosophy. Wrote the book Leviathan. His views act as the base for the Saiban's government.
Vega - (Arabic) Means 'falling', via the phrase 'Swooping Eagle'. Represents the jewel in the harp of the Lyra constellation.

And did anyone know there was a Phoenix constellation? I sure didn't Gant

~Zizzo

P.S Has Mia's colour scheme been decided yet? I've been inking it (So I should be able to get a much better picture up soon enough) and am tempted to break out my colour pencils. Phoenix is blue, Edgeworth is pinkish-red, Franziska is green, Larry is orange, Redd White is pink...I think those were all the colours decided Lana

Zizzo: Didn't we say that Fran wore black? (Or was that when she was out of her flightsuit?)

Funk: I'm sure that OCs can make meaningless appearances. Definately not in mecha of any kind, or they'd steal the show. And that's not fun.
Besides, having Gunther in a mech...I think my head would asplode! Adrian I'm not quite sure of what, though.

I find it mildly amusing that Funk has been mistaken for a girl yet again. (I seem to recall that there was another instance on this very thread.)
Although I am aware that he's, well, a he, I always imagine him as a combination of Franziska and Adrian. It must be his signature, because after he talks there's that picture.
Glare-Fran and Pensive-Andy can say any of his lines, pretty much. Scratch 'pretty much', I'm rather certain they can say all of his lines.

Hm, well, I'll try doodling MECHA!Fran then, and leave colouring Mia to some other time Hobohodo Dannichu's got my inked copies at the moment, she's partway through colouring them and she can do a much better job than I could, I'm sure.

It's been said. It's been said many many times, but it honestly does need to be said again.

THIS THREAD IS MADE OF WIN.

Zizzo made me read it last night and I absolutely love it. Everything. You guys' imaginations are the most wonderful things in the world, I swear. I love the characters, backstories, pictures... God, all of it's just wonderful.

Unfortunately, the only offering I have right now is a coloured version of Zizzo's picture of Nick in his suit. I'm mostly done with Mia's, but I royally messed up the colours (whhhhy did I use purple?), so I might get that up later after I fix it. Hopefully. Nick

Look at him go.

And, because ever since Funk mentioned Adrian wearing a headset, I just found that image too cute not to draw. My drawing skills are nothing on Zizzo's (she'll protest, but it's true), and I majorly lack the imagination to think up a design for a special costume for her, but here goes anyway:

"Franziska! Get out of there!"

That's a sweet coloring job, Dannichu. :D I'm lazy, wanna do mine? XB.

Anyways here's some more messy concept sketchy type things for yalls. :B

Franziska/Saiban flightsuit (before she cut her hair)

Mareka flightsuit (just because)

Penny/mercenary flightsuit
I figured the mercenaries might have clunkier/less advanced looking flightsuits, at least before the federation hires them. (and I felt like drawing Penny :P)

...Yay.

Any ideas on what non pilot people would wear? Mechanics/crew members/whoever?

The mechanics would have to wear mechanic belts with lots of pockets and spanners and stuff in. Because I like mechanic belts for some reason.
The people whose jobs would involve lots of running around and dexterity and stuff would need costumes made for practicality and ease of movement. And probably some stripes and ribbons and flowy things so they look cool when running around. Redd White

I'd be glad to do yours, but it's just be a print off your pic, pencil colour it and then scan it up -type-job. Seriously though, those designs are awesome. I completely love Fran's face (I know that's not the point of the picture, but it's really incredible) and Penny's suit is just love. I really like the more chunky costume design there, it looks so good.

Yeah, Adrian's hair probably was supposed to be up. Just shows how much I pay attention, huh?

That would be awesomeness! :3 (I should probably try to clean them up more first so they're easier to color, they're all smudgy and stuff :P) I was really happy with how Fran turned out, too. Thank you so much! :DDD

Okay! Back! That wasn't... TOO bad, I guess >.> Blah. I napped a lot.

Zizzo #1 - Yes. I get mistaken for a girl surprisingly often. >.> Maybe it comes from writing romance PW fanfiction? *cough* And the avatar/sig prolly has something to do with it...

In a way, writing a story with giant mecha kicking each others' asses is a way to reassert my masculinity :P

And I don't know if I want Lotta in this Nick at least not in a way that doesn't involve blowing up horribly.

And your planet summaries are win :P

Regarding color schemes... well, the mech color schemes =/= the flight suit color schemes :P Phoenix's suit is mostly blue, Huma is red/orange/FIERY COLORZ. Edgeworth wears red/pink/magenta, Mitsurugi is blue/gold (like the lapels on his young GS3 outfit).

Okay, then from there I guess it's more similar. Brynhildr is black/white/green, Fran's flight suit is predominantly black. Other than that...? Uh, well, Mia's captain outfit is white, dunno her flight suit. Probably would be gray/black/yellow to match her normal outfit. >.>

Ask Musouka and Raelle. I am not good when it comes to designing outfits. Designing the dresses for "Follow the Fool" gave me a seizure. :P

Urby #1 - But I like my sig.... Sadshoe

Dannichu #1 - That's awesome! Seriously. The coloring on Phoenix's suit is great (lol, bulge in the pants, Phoenix is PACKING sorryI'mdone) and Adrian looks adorable, even if she wears her hair up, not down :P I'm beginning to love you more than I already do. Glad you like it so much :D

Busterella #1 - Gah!

You come bearing... even MORE awesome. Friska... wow. She's... that's really, really good. I LOVE her expression, and her longer-ish hair, and of course her flight suit (nice design, Zizzo :D). That's amazing. And Mareka? Well, she's the Turnabout's pilot so won't be in a flight suit much, but... that's still really, really nifty. I might have to come up with a situation that puts her in a mech just so I can use that picture :P

Penny is just adorable. And I agree that the Global crew wouldn't have the most advanced flight suits. Maybe the Feds give them some? I imagine a scene where poor Will starts feeling very self-conscious due to the skin-tight nature of the Saiban flightsuits :P

Take another 20 CFTF Approval stickers plz. You're amazing.

Dannichu #2 - Yup. that's what the mechanics wear. Gumshoe wears a looser sort of jumpsuit with lots of pockets with various tools and wrenches stuffed in them. He's still kind of a slob, even in 4019 :P

You are all awesome.

I sort of imagine Urby's comics as the "Go For It, Domon!" of Gyakuten MECHA. I love "Go For It, Domon!" Because it's hilarious. And she's hilarious.

"Go For It, Phoenix!"

Military ranks of the Saiban Federation!

I never said your sig was a bad thing! Did I? (Crap, did I? ohmynose) I like 'seeing' Fran and Andy like that, it makes them so much more awesome. There's a certain punch to your words when I see Fran glare at me being all 'DID YOU GET ALL THAT!?'
But I'm serial when I say I like your sig, man. Matt

I am also a big fan of Mareka's wheely suit of whee. And, well - everything Busterella made. Thumbs up!

(I'm getting a little dry on ideas, though, so if you have anything you think I could use, please send your suggestions to PO Box...)

Well, we've got a lot that hasn't been touched on yet. :P Crazy Ol' Man Udgey? The bridge crew of the Turnabout? Wacky interactions on the Badger with Gumshoe and Maggey? High Admiral Gant is a sadist?

HOLY SHIT IT'S THE PROLOGUE

October 14th, 4001, 9:56 P.M.
Calypso, third moon of Odyssey
A small field about a mile outside of one of the minor cities

Three children lay on their backs in the middle of a small pasture looking up at the nighttime sky.

High above them, the heavens stretched out to infinity, with countless stars dotting the firmament among other specks of light that might have been planets, far-off galaxies, nebulae, or any of the other natural phenomena in the universe. It was a perfectly clear night with not a cloud in sight, and since the only visible part of the bright blue disk that was the planet Odyssey was a small sliver of light near the horizon, there was nothing in the skies to interfere with viewing the spectacle above.

These three boys, not yet even ten years old, weren’t quite paying attention to the vast natural universe before their eyes. Some of the specks of light in the night sky were, in fact, very much manmade. These little pinpoints were moving against the endless backdrop beyond—weaving, diving and corkscrewing through the air, and a sharp-eyed observer might notice even tinier streaks of light appearing between them. Ever so often, one of the luminous specks would flare up into a larger burst of reddish light, and then disappear entirely.

To three children lying on their backs in the middle of a small pasture looking up at the nighttime sky, it was a silent, beautiful light show that might as well have been put on just for them on that quiet October night.

However, reality seldom follows fantasy.

“You don’t think the Feds saw us sneaking out, do you?” asked one of the boys in a hesitant, anxious tone, not taking his gaze off the dancing lights high overhead. “I mean… it’s after curfew. We gotta be careful about these things.”

Another of the trio—the tallest of the three, skinny, awkward and lanky with the seeds of what would eventually become puberty—gave a snorting laugh. “C’mon Nick, it doesn’t matter. They’re so stupid they’d never find us out here, anyway!”

The shortest of the three boys spoke in a quiet, thoughtful voice. “I think they’ve got bigger things to worry about than us tonight.” To punctuate his thoughts, a pair of sparks in the sky flared up and died out silently.

The trio of friends was silent for another brief eternity as the wind hissed across the field. With a shiver, the tallest of them complained, “I’m cold.”

“We told you not to wear shorts, Larry,” retorted the one who’d spoken first. “You knew it was gonna be cold tonight. You’re so dumb sometimes.”

“Hey! Why, you—!!” The tallest boy began to stand up, anger in his voice, ignoring the fact that the other boy had been perfectly correct in his assessment (he was prone to doing such things).

“Quiet, you guys,” the third child’s thoughtful voice sounded annoyed—but also a bit worried despite his earlier statement, because there was a pair of headlights a ways down the nearby road that was quickly approaching. All three of the friends immediately fell silent, flattening themselves on the ground amongst the tall strands of grass as the headlights grew closer. Eventually, they revealed themselves as belonging to a large, box-shaped transport of some sort that passed by the trio with a loud vibrating hum, hovering about two feet above the ground and then fading away into the distance, wherever it was up to.

Once they were sure it was far out of earshot, the first boy sat up, looking at where the twin red taillights were fading into the distance and running a hand through his spiky black hair. “Where do you think the lunchbox is going?” he asked, using the familiar term for one of the Federation troop carriers (which did, in fact, resemble a lunchbox with windows and an attached pilots’ cabin rather remarkably).

“I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter. They’re losing the fight up there,” the short boy said confidently, pointing straight up at the dancing lights above.

“You sound… pretty sure,” answered the spiky-haired youth. “Your dad’s up there, right? You think he’s okay?”

Both of his friends answered simultaneously, though the thoughtful-voiced child’s indignant “Of course!” was drowned out by his taller, skinny friend leaping to his feet, and proclaiming, “You bet, Nick! Ol’ Man Edgey’s givin’ it to the Feds right now! He’s all ‘WHOOSH,’ and then he sees them and he’s all ‘BWEE! BWEE! BUDDA-BWEEE!’ and then? They just go ‘BA-BOOM!!’ and then he finds a new enemy and is all ‘BRAKKABRAKKABRAKKA,’ and…” both of the other two grabbed him, one on each pant leg, and hauled him down to the grass with an audible “Oof!”

Though it was dark, you could hear the glare in the short boy’s voice. “Don’t call my dad that, Larry. And yes, he’s absolutely fine. He’s the best Captain in the entire fleet! Nobody can touch him! He’s unbeatable!”

“Okay,” shrugged the spiky-headed boy. “As long as you’re sure.”

They were silent for another long series of heartbeats, watching the beautiful and deadly ballet above. “So, do you want to be a pilot like your dad?”

“Yeah,” the pride in the young boy’s voice was audible. “He says I’ll be a great pilot some day. He already says I’m one of the best navigators he’s ever seen—he asked me to plot him a route the other day!” The short child’s voice was practically glowing. “I’m gonna be a great pilot like him some day. Then? It’ll be me up there making the Federation wish they’d never come here. What about you, Nick?”

“…well, I really want to be a magistrate,” responded his friend with a shrug. “I think that… justice is important. But I guess being a pilot would be pretty cool. We could go into the academy together, right?”

“I guess so, yes,” answered the others. “And you, Larry? Do you want to be a pilot?”

The third ran a hand through his unruly blond hair as he shook his head. “Naaaah,” he said with a dismissive wave. “Too much work. I think I want to be a chef. Or a painter, maybe. Yeah, I could be a painter. Girls like painters, right?”

They fell silent once more as the battle overhead raged on.

Fifteen Years Later
Federation skiff
UFS Boulet
In orbit around Muspel

“Flight Officer Sahwit, report,” commanded Winston Payne, Second Lieutenant in the Saiban Federation, from the bridge of his small spacecraft. He eagerly leaned against the commander’s console, looking down at the gold Lieutenant’s insignia on his chest. It was a bit dull, he thought. He’d have to polish it before he got his undoubtedly well-deserved promotion, of course.

Though the Boulet was a small craft, it did have a small flight group of four well-maintained Perseus-series mechs, all of which were currently making their very slow way through the treacherous asteroid belt that surrounded the immense gas giant Muspel. The unfathomably huge scarlet bulk of Muspel dominated the scenery on the forward viewscreen, with only a little bit of black space visible at the top corners of the display.

The voice of Flight Officer Sahwit came back a bit tinny through the speakers in this older-model ship. “Nothing yet, Lieutenant. Other than that brief emission of Garyuu Waves earlier, there’s been no sign of them.” There was a pause, and Sahwit’s voice seemed a bit uncertain. “Are you… sure they’re here, sir? Muspel’s atmosphere is weird, the waves could have come from the planet itself…”

Payne adjusted the officer’s cap that fortunately covered his balding head completely. “I’m positive, Officer,” he said, his high-pitched voice terse. Really, he’d have to discipline Sahwit for such a blatant lack of common sense. After all, Garyuu Waves were only emitted from operational Jump Drives—everybody knew that! That one of his subordinates would be attributing such a hard scientific fact to the hocus-pocus and superstition that surrounded Muspel? It was almost offensive.

A confident, smug smirk found its way onto Payne’s aging face. They were ambushed above Hobbes, barely managed to escape with their lives… and according to accounts of the fight, their Jump system was damaged. There are only a few planets within reach that they could make it to without detection, and of those, the Muspel Belt is the only place with enough uninhabited cover available to perform Jump repairs! It was so obvious. Clearly, his talents were being quite wasted on such an aging, broken-down ship with such a small mecha force. But this would all change shortly… oh yes, it would change!

Confident in his absolutely brilliant deductions, Payne shook his head, that smug smirk growing wider. “Officer, the Kurain is hiding in the Muspel Belt. They’re damaged, and only have two or three mechs ready for combat. As Muspel is part of our patrol jurisdiction, and we are loyal sons of the Federation, it is our duty to hunt those vagabonds down and bring them to justice!”

And what sweet revenge it will be…
added Payne silently. True, the ARS Kurain had certainly been an ever-growing thorn in the High Admiral’s side, and eliminating Captain Mia Fey and her henchmen would certainly bring him (and his subordinates, he supposed) huge amounts of glory and honor. But after the humiliating defeat he’d suffered at the hands of Captain Fey five years ago that had led to demotion and disgrace… oh, this was certainly personal.

Her ship had been badly damaged in the ambush at Hobbes, she only had two or so combat-ready mecha, and his four pilots were well-trained and in undamaged, perfectly-maintained machines. Payne’s grip on the railing of the commander’s chair tightened in anticipation. When the High Admiral heard about his single-handed defeat of Fey and the Kurain? Oh, he’d be rewarded. Given his own, bigger ship. Promoted to Commander! Or Major! Or—dare he imagine it?!—even Colonel. He could imagine the award ceremony already…

“Sir? We’re picking up something.”

“Keep going, Flight Officer! We’ve got them now!” His voice was shrill with excitement and the thrill of his certain glory-to-come. Your notorious luck shan’t save you today… Captain Mia Fey.

---

“It’s gone,” said Flight Officer Sahwit, frustration in his voice as he checked the instruments lining the small, cramped cockpit of his Perseus-class mech. “02, did you pick up that blip on the sensors just now?”

His wingman had, but there was doubt in his voice as he spoke. “Yes sir, but… there’s lots of metal in these asteroids. You don’t think it was just a sensor ghost?”

Making sure that the transmission was private and just between the two of them, Sahwit shook his head, sighing. “Might be. But the Lieutenant certainly doesn’t think so right now. He’s obsessed.” The Flight Officer shifted in his chair, letting go of one of his controls for a second to tap in commands to their two AI-piloted companions. “Spread out, 02. There could be dozens of enemies hiding in this damn asteroid field.” Or, more likely, no enemies at all. The Lieutenant’s crazy.

There it was again—! The strange blip on his sensors… but as soon as it had appeared, it was gone. It had been behind him, and Sahwit spun his mech around to check visually. There wasn’t anything there but hunks of floating rock and the giant red orb that was the treacherous atmosphere of Muspel. Sahwit sighed to himself. They were imagining things. The Lieutenant’s paranoia was beginning to get to them all. He really should put in a transfer request.

All of a sudden, 03 and 04—the two AI suits—exploded in twin gouts of flame, and Sahwit briefly saw a crimson stream that looked like a jet of plasma. They were here after all! “02, evasive—!” he shouted out loud, as the mystery blip on the sensors returned… and in his viewscreen as well. It was quick; it was much quicker than any mech he knew, and for a brief instant it crossed Sahwit’s mind that it looked almost… avian. Like some sort of mythological red bird. “What is that thing?!”

Then, there was another flash of crimson plasma, and not much crossed his mind at all anymore.

---

On the bridge of the Boulet, Second Lieutenant Payne stood, a blank stare on his face as he stared at the four lights that represented his ship’s mech forces. All four of the lights were red. All four of his mecha were gone. He’d been right about the Kurain… but… he’d been wrong about so much more. Payne could see his promotion fading away, replaced with even more humiliation and disgrace.

He quickly input the commands to Jump back to sector HQ in case the mystery pilot was coming after him, next—and wondered how he could possibly spin this on the report to not go down as his fault…

---

The four Federation mecha had been reduced to so much space debris, rubble to join the asteroids in their eternal orbit around the gas giant Muspel. There was a twinge of guilt as there always was, but if he hadn’t taken them out, many, many more lives would have been forfeit. Outside of the asteroid field, the parent craft gave a little flicker of motion and then vanished into Jumpspace.

Fighting the urge to run a hand through his spiky hair (which was quite impossible due to his flightsuit’s helmet, anyway), Lieutenant Phoenix Wright of the Fusegi Alliance keyed his communications unit. “All four enemy craft have been eliminated,” he began in as formal a tone as he could manage, “and their control ship has retreated.”

“I can quite see that from here, Wright,” came the warm voice of his commander through the speakers of his cockpit. “Good work. You keep flying better and better.”

From Captain Mia Fey, that was high praise indeed, and Phoenix would have been lying to himself if he tried to pretend it didn’t sort of give him a warm, fuzzy feeling inside to hear it. “Thanks, Captain. Permission to land?”

“Permission granted. Come back in and get something warm to eat. It’s cold out there.”

Phoenix Wright nodded an affirmative, grasped the controls of his mech, and made his way back to the relative safety and comfort of the ARS Kurain.

YAY! ^_^ Thats really really great Funk :) I especially liked the Nick, Edgey and Lary moment at the beginning. You characterised them really well.

On the subject of Udgey, he shouldn't have a big past. I suppose It's likely he WAS a judge at one time, he could have even been Chief Justice somewhere before the Federation began to take over. But something happened to him and he had to flee, probably when the Fed's took over the planet he was on. (Infact, he could have been the Chief Justice of the planet Nick and Edgey came from). But you've already got his personality sussed out, and thats the most important bit for him.

I swear... I just keep reading the prologue again and again.

Merely the prologue... I swear, this is already looking to be one of my favourite things I've ever read. I can't offer anything constructive; I'm just too busy being in awe. And fangirling over your use of Muspel, strange as it may sound. It's got supersitioooooonnssssss~

This motivates me further! Now I must... do something with all this motivation... maybe more "website monkey" stuff! Or fanart. I'm not too sure.

My point is - I'm really enjoying this so far.
Thank you for flying Phoenix Wright. We hope you have a nice day.

Thanks, Kwoiffei. Really glad to hear you liked it, and yes, I decided to use Muspel :D THERE ARE SUPERSTITIONS. <333

If you want to do web monkey stuff, well, you can add me to the credits page :P Perhaps also an "Art" page? Where we have all the art various people have contributed? A special section set aside for Go For It, Phoenix!, of course.

And you can have a "Story" section and start putting that up, if you want :)

(Also, please make the correction on the main page, it should be 4016, not 4017)

Now, the problem becomes... how to release this to the general public? I'm assuming with the intro on the page, the Prologue, and a smattering of character art? More colored art would be wonderful.

I'm gonna try and find an artist to do some of the mecha designs since that's what I'd really like to get now, a few pictures of Huma/Mitsurugi/Brynhildr/etc. IF anyone wants to take their try at it, though, be my guest... :D

Hm. Casual/non-flight suit...

Well, I imagine the Alliance military outfits to be more like the Saiban flight suits--in that they're a bit sleeker, more streamlined. Not QUITE like "formfitting spandex," but... yeah. White is used for commanders/captains, but usually it comes in whatever color the character normally does. I can also see Phoenix wearing like a windbreaker-style jacket over it. Very much a white/blue color scheme with him.

I can't see Miles or Fran out of their flight suits often, if at all >.>

With MIA... I decided sort of a combination. Basically, Mia used her 'gift' (LOL THE FORCE) and sort of... well, she didn't know she was going to die exactly, but she sort of had a premonition and decided to get some things in order. Including making an AI of herself--she'd already had one done, but there's no REAL evidence that suggests that double-made mind AIs are any trouble... and she told Grossberg to give it to Nick if anything happened to her.

So it's a more current version of Mia, one that knows Nick (a la the game Mia).

"Seem"?!

I ADORE it. Please be prepared for a flooding of artz~ I really feel like drawing the 'IT'S A GUNDAM! OHSHI----!' scene. But it'll have to wait until we get the Huma's design set in stone, 'cause I fail at mecha.

Oh, and 'cause I don't say it enough: LOVE YOU ARGH YOU WIN FIFTY INTERNETS PLZKTHX

~Zizzo

P.S Has the role of the Gatewater been decided? I, for some reason, keep thinking of it as a kind of luxury cruiser, used for things like military presentations and promotion ceremonies. Saiban Federation owned, of course.

And flooding of arts = YES PLEASE. MORE ART THE BETTER.

Damn, Zizzo already said what I was gonna say... that is, a string of incoherent babbling.
Oooh, it's wonderful. I think my absolutely favorite part was Larry making spaceship noises because I could picture that so perfectly in my head it made me laugh out loud. Sahwit's panic and eventual demise were excellently described, too. Can't wait for more!

Arts!

Mia by Zizzo

Gah, I don't like this colour scheme. I'm too used to seeing Mia as channeled by Maya (I actually started colouring her with back hair) so she ended up being pert-purple. Meh.

Maya by Busterella

Puuurple. I think it looks okay, if a little eye-hurting with the colours.

Penny by Busterella

I haven't played case 3 of AA for aaaages so I honestly couldn't remember what Penny looked like >.> With Zizzo's help, I settled on this colour scheme.

Franziska I by Busterella

Version 1. I don't like it much, hence why there's a version II. The green is a shade I can't imagine Fran wearing in a million years and she looks too much like Shego from Kim Possible for me to take her even vaguely seriously.

Franziska II by Busterella

I like this one a little more. It's still not as black as it should be (and, to be honest, I have no idea what that greeny-bolue colour is supposed to be in the slightest), but I like it more than the above one.

Um... tada?

This time, I used a reference (Phoenix Wright official art woo~) so it's going to look slightly different than my other drawings. Better, hopefully. I realised that all my contributions so far have been full-body views, so I drew a profile shot. I'm so much better at face shots, it's not even funny.

Springtime of YOUTH

I messed up hardcore on the hair, but OH WELL. I also don't really know what an airbreaker jacket looks like, so I just guessed on the collar. Maybe I should have used a reference for that Y/N?

~Zizzo

P.S Mia could easily tell Phoenix was a natural-born pilot. He has the most aerodynamic hair ever seen. I know he stays inside the cockpit but shut up
P.P.S Sorry if I sound really arrogant or something. I'm half asleep after typing up coursework. Sadshoe
