If it's a pun on the French 'gross', then it's pronounced GROWSS or GROWZ, I believe.

I've never heard it pronounced "dah-lee-uh" myself, but apparently enough people use it to be considered acceptable. I still stand by "dahl-yah" as the "proper" pronounciation, though. Both work.

"Oh really" doesn't SOUND LIKE "Oh really", because it IS "Oh really". Olga didn't say that her name IS "Oh really", she said it SOUNDED LIKE it.

As I've said before, Dahlia is one of those names that can be pronounced a number of ways and still be correct, but since her petname is Dollie we can assume she pronounces her name "DOLL-ee-yuh" or "DOLL-yuh.

I'm surprised no one has brought up Wocky's last name yet.

I believe the author said "keh-tah-kee." Isn't Wocky's family a yakuza gang? Thus meaning they are JAPANESE? It's "KEE-tah-kee."

ooh, dear.

I was under the impression that v's in German have a f sound to them. Making klavier pronounces kla-feer...

aaand according to a random google search that seems to be right :/ http://www.utils.ex.ac.uk/german/pronounce/

Though I've never studied German. Anyone who has mind clearing this up for me?

Though I must say that it should be pronounced God-oh. Samuel Beckett has spoke of this so, so many times. The Americanized pronunciation of guh-doh is incorrect. I have studied theatre a bit~ so this is a bit of a pet peeve of mine <3

Maybe Dah-lee-uh is teh Amereican pronunciation?

Anyway, God-oh? Kla-feer? I'll except Kla-feer if I have to, but God-oh doesn't sound right. I have a feeling they wrote it assuming it was guh-doh.

http://www.thecampuschronicle.com/archive/vol_4/05_07/ <3

It's pronounced god-oh in all the foreign film versions as well, Guh-doh is a completely American mistake~ I've had a epic argument about this with my theatre teacher~

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmoDMdLoUZw Here, this is an excerpt from Waiting For Godot in the 2001 Beckett on film collection, made in Ireland, as you see Vladimir clearly says 'Godot'. Every foreign version has the same pronunciation.

But, hey, poh-tay-toe pah-tah-toe <3 The way everyone pronounces stuff is up to them~

The only defense I can find for guh-doh or Goh-doh is that
Spoiler:
it sounds like GO and DO put
together...if you get my drift.

I guess I could warm up to the less cool God-oh though...

I agree with Phoenix_Apollo on the fact that Godot is 'GO' and 'DO' put together (yes, I get the drift). I'm still sticking with what I said before. "Waiting for Godot" was originally in French, Godot is a French name, and thus should be pronounced with French phonetics.

"go-DOH"

Just because it sounds like O RLY doesn't mean it's O RLY.

For example, I thought her last name was pronounced like Or-ULL-ly. That sounds like O RLY, but isn't O RLY.

This is just me being a weird language nut, but I pronounce the CH in Machi as in Hebrew, so it's kind of a... guttural H sound? I don't know the right word to describe it. It's probably supposed to just be a hard C, since the Japanese is Maki.

(I did that list up when I was superbored and half asleep, so they're probably all wrong anyways. Thanks for the star, though *MUNCH MUNCH*)

In the OP you spelt Trilo 'Trillo'. His name is a pun on ventriloquist, but phonetically it should be "TREE-low" or "TREEL-oh".

And I already discussed the matter of Olga's last name with Franzise, if you would care to read back. Olga said that her name SOUNDS LIKE "Oh really", not that it IS "Oh really".

As for Machi, I'm not sure at all how his name is really pronounced because everyone pronounces it differently. His Japanese name is Maki, but I think that if they wanted to keep it that way in the localization then they wouldn't have changed the spelling ('Mach' is pronounced 'mock', but adding a vowel on the end changes the pronunciation). Phonetically, I believe that his first name is pronounced "MAH-shi" or "MAW-shi", and I pronounce his last name like a Japanese name out of habit.

In other news...
The T&T European release is a go!

Are any of the T&T characters' names pronounced differently in the UK?

Okay, for Orly I'll put both down since I have no idea what the whole SOUNDS LIKE/IS thing is.
They're doing it after all? AWESOME (even though I don't live there, it just seemed so assholeish they were planning to skip it D<). Pronunciations should be the same, since the names are. Except you guys may say it a little differently because of your accent (or lack of it, or whatever). The gist'd be the same, though, right?

Since Olga said that her name sounds like "Oh really", thus we can safely say that her name is pronounced phonetically, because if it was actually pronounced "Oh really" she would be being redundant.

Saying "Oh really" sounds like "Oh really" is completely true, because they're the same. It's redundant to call something that's identical to something else 'similar', and redundancy is frowned upon by grammar nazis and generally doesn't appear in natural speech (like double negatives).

Spoiler: 4-1
We know that Olga is really fluent in English
and thus she would have no reason to be redundant.

Can I rest my case nao?

EDIT
:beef: :beef: :beef: ONOES SKLAR UNEDIT THE OP :beef: :beef: :beef:

Copypasta is bad! I omitted several names from my 'stressed' list, so now the OP is incomplete!

tldr;

"or-lee" doesn't sound like "oh ree-lee." That's like saying "comb" sounds like "ice cream cone."

The joke they keep using in 4-1 (Oh really, Orly?) doesn't make sense if it's "or-lee." It's "oh ree-lee."

And add "dahl-ya" already. :grey:
