I was intrigued by the concept of the Ace Attorney series ever since the first game was released in the United States, but I was too skeptical to dish out the full price of a new DS game for a game about lawyers. I decided to finally give the series a try when the first game was released on WiiWare, and I was instantly addicted. Shortly thereafter I purchased the other games, and the rest is history.

I was on youtube and I like to watch some people do a "let's play".

A guy I subscribed to did a let's play for this game and I had nothing to do, so I decided to watch about 5 videos to see if I enjoyed it.

I was sold by the 3rd video :edgy: I think what won me over was Frank Sahwit's toupée :toupee: :edgy:

I can't believe it took 10 years from inception for me to discover what a amazing game this is. I was missing out :payne:

I was obsessed with Professor Layton at the time I discovered it! I found out about Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney and remembered that on my R4 card when I was like 8 I played Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and tossed it aside because I thought it was REALLY hard. But I must have somehow got onto the second case, because...
Spoiler:
The only character I actually remembered was Marvin Grossberg, for some reason. :grossburg:

Then I looked it up and found it was an awesome game about a lawyer, so I played it knowing some of the main characters already and just LOVED it. What I think made me love the games were the puns (Come on, who doesn't have respect for puns after playing this?!), the characters and their backstories, the music, basically everything!

Sorry, I went on and on, didn't I? :edgy:
Please don't hate meeeeeeeeeeeeee!

My mother happened to put Justice for All on our R4 thinking it looked really good. She asked me to look the series up on the internet and I remember thinking it looked boring. ^^; I had a go though and found it too difficult, as I didn't really understand what I was supposed to do. I must have been around 10/11 at this time...time sure flies by...

Then, sometime later, I had another go and finally understood what to do. Soon enough I was hooked and I completed the game. I then ordered the first one off the internet and played that nearly three years ago...again, wow.

After that I bought the third game, played that one, and so on.

The funny thing is, my mother hated the game.

Let's see...I bought the first game a few years back, when I was about 14. It was only ten bucks and I was very curious about the premise ("OBJECTION!" memes and such were still rather prominent on the internet back then). To my surprise, I got into the cases, characters, and gameplay immediately and loved it. Unfortunately I wouldn't get the chance to play the other games until just last year, but I'm a bona fide fanboy now that I have. Better late than never, I suppose. :garyuu:

A year or two ago, something like that, I decided for some reason to read VGR's recap of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which they called Anal Attorney. And the recap contained tons of sexual innuendo, penis jokes, pointing out obvious Logic flaws in this game and repeatedly telling me that Phoenix, Larry and Edgeworth are all gayer than gay.
So I decided to play Ace Attorney myself, because I wasn't sure how much of their recap I could trust to be the truth. Since I read the recaps for Case 1-1 until Case 1-3 and the first part of Case 1-4, I decided to start by playing JFA so I wouldn't know what was going on.

Lo and behold, the game did contain sexual innuendos, penis jokes, Phoenix and Edgeworth's gayness for each other and the obvious flaws in terms of Logic that drive me up the wall! I have to say, though, I played the beginning of Case 2-4 and Case 1-4 kind of side-by-side until I stopped to play 1-4 in one go. Boy did that case take a long time... I finally finished around 3 AM. And then came Case 2-4, which just really dragged on... which really just helped my hatred for that case.

A friend showed me T&T and I played it 5 years ago. Last year I was looking through the VGM of the week of a channel I follow and saw Cornered 2004. I instantly remembered it, and decided to play it. The rest is history.

One of my favorite commentary groups on YouTube called BrainScratchComms, and one of the members there is Exandshadow. He's a big Ace Attorney fan, and he even made a video which gave his summary on his opinions on the series. He recommended the series for people who enjoy really well written stories in video games, and since I did enjoy well written stories and characters, I decided to check it out. So I bought the WiiWare version of the first game in late July of last year, and I absolutely loved it! So I bought the rest of the series after that, and here I am today!

I never posted on this topic? Huh.

Well geez, I first found out about the series back in either 2005 or 2006 (can't really remember) during my senior year in high school. A girl from my choir class was playing it, and it looked very interesting, and I needed more games for my DS and I loved visual novels growing up. Thank you Princess Tomato and the Salad Kingdom for getting me into those. Anyways, bought the game and yeah. Guess I can consider myself lucky that I found someone who knew about it at that time when the series was so obscure and not heard of at all. Plus, the girl made looking for the murderer of the big breasted brunette lady look fun.

It's honestly a little sad that I haven't really touched the main series since 2009, as I was really into the series for quite some time. I'm still in love with the series and can't wait for GS5, but it was such a glorious time when we were getting new "releases" of these games annually. I contribute much of that to me being such a big fan boy back then.

Geez, I'm old...

Let's see.... I think I might've been in... middle school (oh god)? Since my dad's a lawyer, I figured I'd give it a shot and I gave the game a try. Well here I am, waiting for the 5th game to make it over here on our 3DSs. Man. That was way back when I had the still big fat silver DS too.

Well, I first saw it on a commercial on G4. I thought it was kinda weird looking and potentially boring, like everyone else must've. Then a friend of one of my older brothers' lent me his copy. It blew me away how you had to use logic and reason to solve a mystery like that. Ever since then, the mystery genre has always been one of my favorites, and AA is pretty much the standard for mystery games to me. If it's nothing like AA, I won't play it. ...Except maybe Hotel Dusk... I gotta finish that.

I first heard about this series from this (Warning: Low quality animation accompanied by low quality annoying music behind that link).
Saw it in a store later, looked it up, read the review, bought it, loved (mostly) every second of it.

I just got my very first DS back then - a DSi XL. One of the games that came along with it was Phoenix Wright. My cousin said it was a great game, and so I played it. What got me hooked was the fact that I had to use my logic to play the game, and not your run-of-the-mill video game skills. I soon found out about court-records.net, and it was my main source of Ace Attorney news and goodness. It was I think about over a year when I decided to make an account, since I wanted to share my opinions and comments on the forums. Great game, great community. I regret nothing. :D

the first AA game i played was justice for all. my brother was actually the one who first started playing the game on my DS. he was home from college then, and it was the night before he had to go back. he was just starting with the second case, and i wanted to know what happens next so i continued playing through the whole game. by then i was hooked. i got the 1st game, then the third, and then continued on to AJ etc etc.

I had heard about it on the internet and wanted to see what all the fuss about it was about. I was immediately hooked and incredibly glad I decided to get it. I got it for my birthday and, a few weeks later, but mom got not just JFA, but T&T for me for Christmas as well <3

Excuse the language, but this motivational poster was my first experience with Phoenix Wright. (I didn't expect the guy to be so popular. How wrong I was.) And yet, I was too much of a One Piece/Final Fantasy fanatic to keep a long-term fascination with the series. It was one of those things I kept on seeing here and there at times over the course of a couple years, but kept dragging on with the decision to check out for myself. (Nonetheless, the Phoenix Wright - Boot to the Head skit was done so seamlessly, it deserves some kind of award.)

Finally, in the spring of 2012, I tried a video walkthrough of the game on Youtube, simply out of curiosity. It stunned me to learn that I became addicted with the first several minutes of the First Turnabout. (And I believed the judge would be the most boring character in the game. Now, he's definitely one of my most favorites.)

From there, my fascination only grew. For reasons I'd rather not discuss, I couldn't purchase actual copies of the games, so I had to find a way around it yeah I pirated. At one point, I gave up the Youtube videos and went through the game myself to pick up on segments that were excluded. (I hadn't heard that Rise from the Ashes was the DS-exclusive until much, much later, and found it a bit odd when it wasn't mentioned at all in JFA.) Then, I marathoned the frick out of the series within the next couple months, all the way to AAI, and then took a break before beginning GK2. Translating it was a pain, but in the end, I ended on a satisfying note.

Before I tried GK2, though, I went back to GS1-3 because I felt it was necessary to learn a bit of background. Now, I visit nicovideo and pixiv on a regular basis and thankfully, understand plenty enough to understand some of these comics or animations. Also, Kyouya is totally the better name than Klavier

Gosh, this post turned out longer than I thought.

Not really. Like I said, my first introduction to the game was watching someone play it and it looked fun. I suppose it's a much better introduction than someone telling me about it.

A friend of mine bought Phoenix Wright 1 at an EB Games, back when they still were selling the games around 2011. He lent it to my sister, to which we were both skeptical on the series. My sister eventually told me, that this game is so much fun and you should really try it. I eventually borrowed the game from my friend and all of a sudden, I was immediately hooked on the game. :udgy: I couldn't put it down. It was the ultimate "never judge a book by it's cover" game I had ever played. I went as far as to spend almost the entire summer of 2012, playing JFA and then immediately T&T on the Wii. I never thought I'd become such a fan of the series! :phoenix:

Was vaguely aware of the series due to the Objection memes and some tumblr posts. I was mildly curious, but was never really invested in finding out more.
Being a huge Layton fan at the time, I was pretty ecstatic to find out that they were making Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. Finally! A gateway to the game! The trailer looked so epic, Nick looked really cool despite my Layton bias (then I find later that he's just a total dork lol), and Maya, the peppy assistant to this dude; I immediately wanted to know more about those two's dynamics.
Played the games in order last year. Thank God I was never really spoiled for anything about the game, save being vaguely aware of Phoenix, Edgeworth and Godot.
Immediately fell in love with Nick. Fell in love with Maya. The dialogue, the dialogue. Man, never did a video game made me laugh that hard during my playthroughs. The rest is history :pearl-blush:

I thank Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney for my new-found obsession with the series. My first ever exposure to anything involving Ace Attorney was back in April or March of 2011. My girlfriend (now ex-girlfriend but still a very close friend) was a Layton FANATIC! She was always talking about it. During one of our first "dates" she showed my PL3. I didn't like it very much at first because at that point I thought a video game was only good if it was similar to the first 3 Sonic games. About a month later I looked up Professor Layton on YouTube just for shits and giggles. The first thing I clicked on happened to be the 2010 PLvsAA trailer. I knew nothing about Japanese at that point though so I quickly stopped watching. It wasn't until around August of 2012 that I looked up the trailer again. This time I watched through it all and at that point I had become a big fan of Professor Layton. I didn't know or care what Ace Attorney was at that point but Phoenix's presence in the trailer sparked a small curiosity in the back of my mind that remained there for the next month until my ex-girlfriends birthday came around. She had expressed interest in the Ace Attorney series and I planned on sending her the first game via WiiWare. Instead I got it for myself on a whim. I became hooked immediately mostly because of the timing of each musical track (I'm a sucker for good music that has good timing in games). Completely ignoring my ex's request for the games for her birthday (which was the very next day) I got the first three games for myself and just settled at getting her the second manga (which I borrowed soon after to read). I beat the first game (except "Rise from the Ashes") within about a month and I immediately started on the second game. The final case of that game had me INCREDIBLY hooked. I then started T&T (which I haven't beaten yet) and found the first case to be a bit harder than the rest. I only just recently got AJ:AA and I am currently on Case 3. I still need to get AAI and I'm incredibly hyped for PW:DD and the possible localization of PLvsAA. That is my story.

My first AA game was Trial and Tribulations. I don't remember how l stumble upon the series though. But since I'm a mystery novel fan, this kind of games would definitely part of my game library without the need of too much research.

A friend told me the best app ever (yes, app. I played the first game on iOS) was Phoenix Wright. I bought it (this was about four years ago) and fell in love. Ironically, my friend never got past Turnabout Samurai.

I found out there were more games and over the next year, I beat all of them. The mysteries, the characters, the villains, the emotion, ah. It was amazing. I hadn't felt this way about a game since a Zelda game or Paper Mario: TTYD

I had known about the series for a few years before I actually played it. It was just one day I decided on a whim to try it out, so i downloaded the first game and was instantly hooked. I couldn't put it down and it was amazing. The only ones I have yet to play are Investigations 2 and PL vs PW, and I have yet to beat Investigations 1.

I watched a video on the top ten most underrated video games and I saw Apollo Justice on it. (Poor :apollo: Why did they think of your game as underrated?) I remembered that I had the first two games I got and never played. I played those, then tried Apollo Justice and then Trials and Tribulations. I then finished Ace Attorney Investigations and tried Gyakuten Kenji 2's translated version. I then tried Dual Destinies. I wait for GS6! I got hooked as soon as I saw the first game. Now i'm a fan! Yay! I then tried to download translated manga... read it and now I wait for another manga and GK2 translation, the American release of Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, and GS6. But I didn't get any AA merchandise... :sadshoe:

I was aware of the series for a little while, but never really got interested until last year.

I saw a crossover series on youtube which combined AA with MLP called Turnabout Storm. Although I loved the crossover it was several months before I tried it myself. Being to lazy to search for a physical copy I played the first as a rom. I was hooked, after the first game I bought JFA and T&T on my iphone. I am currently playing AJ and I already own dual destinies.

I had always known about the 'Objection!' part of the meme, but one day bought the first manga on the spur of the moment to read on a trip, without knowing anything about the actual game.

:eh?:

After that, played though first couple of games and was hooked.

Back on dA wayyyy back when, there was a user I watched that was -HUGE- into PW at the time. She would make journal entries about playing the game, and talking about it extensively. After reading it, I decided to try out the game myself to see what the hype was.

Never looked back since.

There was a Nintendo magazine I read a couple of years ago (a quick look at the only issue I have left tells me it was in 2007... Holey moley, I'm getting old) and that was where I learned about the games through a preview of JFA which was getting released to Nintendo DS at that time, a longer review of AJ and in a test of styluses which contained the Phoenix Wright finger-stylus (That one is also where I first learned the catchphrase "Objection!". The stylus itself got low scores though... "Phoenix Wright wouldn't be pleased" as they put it). Actually, I didn't have that much of an urge of playing the games and I had no opinion of what I knew about them, but a little more than a year ago I began to take interest in my DS again and to get out of my Super Mario routine I decided to check out some games generally considered to be good, and, mostly based on that magazine, my comprehension was that PW was that kind of game, so I bought it online for a small prize, tried it out, and before I knew it I was stuck, and have been since then. :phoenix: I played the first four games more or less non stop; as soon as I had finished one I bought the next so the onyl pause I had between them was the time it took for the new game to get to me through the mail.
(......Ack! I've run out of snide comments!)

I was on holiday with my friend. She had an Ace Attorney wallpaper as her laptop's desktop background.
I thought it was an anime and asked: What anime is that? :adrian:
Of course, my friend said that it wasn't an anime, but a game.
And I wanted to play it, so we played the first game (first four cases) and I liked it so much. I went home and watched 1-5 on youtube. And now I have played all games except Dual Destinies and GK2.

I got the first game randomly because I loved Hotel Dusk, and I heard AA was similar. I fell in love with it instantly because the writing was excellent.
This is the Dark Age of the Ace Attorney
