When does he say there no black market? That would contradict 4-3 because they were talking about black market with the cocoon

Maybe it's a new black market.

One thing that bugs me, how come the Magatama never works in court? It only ever seems to work during investigations, yet it never appears when a witness lies to you in court!

Probably doesn't work because the Magatama is not a lie detector. It reacts to a Secret the owner has that is close to their heart and it appears when said owner is thinking of it at that moment, because they were reminded of it.

Matt reacts to the Secret about his identity, hence the Psyche Locks appears. Technically, he did not kill anyone - whether directly or indirectly - and hiring an assassin didn't count for him/was not a particular thing he held secret, hence the Magatama didn't pick up on that.

Adrian wanted to keep her reason for working as Matt's Manager - her attempted suicide, her best friend's suicide and feelings of revenge - a secret, so when that subject came up, the Magatama worked.

Etc, etc, it is not a lie detector.

Because the judge can give penalties during a court session.

Though that can apply to many testimonies on the stand anyway. The reason witnesses lie is because they're hiding a secret, and said secret more often than not corresponds to the given situation being discussed. The real reason why Nick doesn't use it is because he doesn't need it. During the investigations, the witnesses he interrogates aren't exactly under oath, so he can't force them to say anything. That's why he uses the Magatama to help him drag out more information.

Phoenix references people involved in the black market hiding in the Poker Room of the Borscht Bowl Club to avoid the law, but that's all he mentions.

One thing that just occurred to me that adds another thing to the list of plot holes in 4-3. It's revealed that Romein Letouse was shot during the second act, yet Apollo finds him, still alive, during the third act. Are you telling me that he was lying there all that time with blood pouring out of a massive hole in his shoulder? You'd think he'd die of blood loss long before Apollo found him.

You're using a scientific explanation for a fictional charm that would otherwise break the laws of physics. No, that's not a good idea.

1. Children not related to the case can attend trials.
In Rise from the Ashes, it is implied that a child is commenting Phoenix during banter.

2.Smoking is not prohibited in court.
Dee Vasquez smokes all she wants on the witness stand.

3.Almost no one is ever arrested for perjury.
Examples, Lotta Hart, Angel Starr, and well, just criminals.

well Like Ema always says Everything can be solved Scientifically :notes:

I think it has something to do with the distance between Phoenix and the person telling the lie. During all of the conversations where a Psyche Lock picks up, Phoenix is talking directly to whomever that may be, and is likely standing directly in front of them. In court, it would be reasonable to assume that there's, at least, a good 10-15 feet between Phoenix and the witness...perhaps a Magatama has a very limited range of effect.

hmm that could be the reason why but how come they didnt mention it in the game?

My guess would be that the developers never actually noticed that problem while developing the mechanic. For what it's worth, there's never any discussion in game (at least, that I know of) where Phoenix actually mentions that problem to Maya or Pearl. I'm assuming the developers just didn't realize that there was an issue there until it was too late, or if they did, they didn't think it was important enough to have the characters address.

sounds like a possibility and most likely they still haven't noticed it since they didn't even mention it either in the HD collection release

#3: "He wrote the culprit's name on the sand" (2-1)
No one noticing the fact that the victim, after snapping his vertebrae, couldn't have even moved, let alone written Maggey's name. The first one to realize that is Phoenix, who had just been whacked over the head and lost his memory.

#2: "This picture is my decisive evidence" (1-3)
A picture that shows a Steel Samurai limping towards the studio. So, who is it inside the costume, Edgeworth?

:edgeworth: "Um...... er...... it's clearly the defendant............"

Why?

:edgeworth: "Because......."
:raygun: "Because Powers is the Steel Samurai!"
:edgeworth: "Yes! That's it!"

So much for your fucking "truth", huh pal.

#1: "You'll have to figure this one out by yourself, Polly!" (4-3)
So you're in court, your client's situation is near hopeless, the prosecution got away with concealing evidence and has just finished ripping your entire case apart and you're relying on your last hope: Lamiroir's testimony about the magic trick that took place during the show. Lamiroir says she cannot explain the trick because Valant bound her to secrecy. Well, fuck you both then. I'll just ask my assistant, who happens to be a magician too..............

... What? You too, Trucy? You're not going to reveal a goddamn magic trick because of your stupid magician rules? What if I don't figure it out by myself? Machi's going to die because of your stupid pride!

#3 and #2 were already mentioned by other users, but I fullheartedly agree with #1. That is just plain stupid. Come to think of it, is there a single character in the AA universe that ISN'T stupid or crazy in some way? The most normal people in this universe are a guy that slams his desk loudly and points his finger at people he disagrees with, and a guy who was traumatized as a child and has a dehabilitating fear of Earthquakes and Elevators. In absolutely no fucking way this is normal. People are going to courtrooms to help find justice, and instead of acting properly they lie, they act wacky, they do childish stuff... I've never seen stuff like that in today's society. Not even the magician thing.

Well Gregory is pretty normal and etc, but I would like to see him in AAI-2 before commenting any further on his personality. Shame I don't know the first thing about japanese...

Now that I'm skimming through the Yomigaeru script, I can only agree further. Angel makes countless subtle death threats that Phoenix doesn't catch on to. Edgey even throws in some of his own... subtly, of course.

Spoiler: GS1-5
Those rings aren't squid rings, by the way; they're rubber bands.

At least he's relatively relatable; not as many people can relate to the judge's logic.

The most normal people in this universe are a guy that slams his desk loudly and points his finger at people he disagrees with.

Pfff... pffahahahahaha, you say Phoenix is the most normal person in GS?
He's like the dumbest person in that whole series to begin with!

At least he's relatively relatable; not as many people can relate to the judge's logic.

well wright is most of the times oblivious to things so no surprise he didnt notice it Silly Trite :godot:

Believe it or not. There are dumb people in reality.

I know. I've learned pretty fast that a ton of humanity consists of idiots.
It's just that even those idiots are not as bad as Phoenix is. So I still laugh when people say Phoenix is 'normal'.

Compared to everyone's craziness

You have to admit Phoenix Appears normal.

Then again those constant heart stopping moments in court can't be good for him

One thing I don't understand is how Luke Atmey fit his monstrous nose into Ron's mask. I mean, have you seen the damn thing? It make's Mario's nose look like Michael Jackson's.

That's been brought up in a couple of old threads. I think we haven't seen the mask's shape in enough angles to say it's not fitting for Atmey's face; for all we know, he may have special-made a mask for the Sacred Urn heist and the camera photo captured him in a bad angle.

Could be the case but from the angle they gave us you can easly see that the nose for the mask is flat if you look carefully
