This pairing is one of my deep personal favorites. Yes. You heard me. I'm not a TOTAL yaoi fangirl. There are some good het pairings I like... +Cough.+
But back to the "D'awwwwww" factor of this pairing...because it's practically almost canon and I'd like to think that Gumshoe would totally be Maggey's good-luck charm.

I wonder if that cuteness which draws everyone to support the couple is also something of a turn off when it comes to fan works...? They're adorable and I think they're great together, but don't think I'd ever be inspired to write about it *because* it's so sweet. Needs more conflict!
And...Gumshoe's a big guy. The thought of any serious adult rated NokoMako stuff is kind of intimidating, in way.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on why it's so underrepresented.

So, could anyone explain what the main appeal is? All I've heard is "it's cute" and the fact it's semi-canon. But, I don't really find it cute, and it being semi-canon is a major turn off. You guys won't get me to change my mind but maybe I could be able to tolerate it better if I had some sort of insight as to why people like it.

JFA and T&T spoilers ahoy, for those who may not've played them yet, if anybody.
One of the big fuzzy-factors of the pairing, IMHO, is that Maggey and Gumshoe have an incredible amount of traits in common. They're both clumsy, unlucky, hard-working, and, above all, they're both genuinely good people. (I challenge you to name a more big-hearted PW chara than Gumshoe. Just try it. =P)
Gumshoe obviously has feelings for Maggey- this is evident from the very first time we hear his testimony in her case. (Even the Judge points it out and he's freakin' oblivious to everything!
) Maggey, however, is even MORE oblivious- while she acknowledges fondness for the man, it's purely on a professional level- this case could be argued for her attitude in case 3-3, but think about it... if she didn't really care, would she have gotten so upset? Add to this that she apparently meets up with him sometime between the end of 3-3 and the ending point of the game to patch things up, as he's proudly wearing a gift she gave him- a new coat. Thoughtful AND practical. ^_^Taking all that into consideration, it's awful hard to imagine them NOT starting a full-fledged relationship, as one is already starting to bud by the end of T&T.
Also, not only is it very realistic, it's also very sweet. Consider it- here are two people for whom which very little has gone right. A pair of cosmic chew toys, wearing the great invisible 'KICK ME' signs of fate. This is not something they, a pair of genuinely kind, helpful people, deserve... and as long as they have each other to love, they can be comforted by the fact that come what may, that, at very least, has gone right.

I agree with you so much. Though I don't dislike "semi-canon" pairings, and I wouldn't say I don't tolerate it, because I don't dislike the pairing, but I don't see the appeal. I like Gumshoe and Maggey fine, but as Croik said, there's no conflict so I find it a bit uninteresting.
Plus, I don't know how to explain it, I can't see it. They just don't look like they go together. I know that sounds like a shallow reason to dislike a pairing, but that would be a good explanation as to why there's no fanart of them. That and the fact that there's already a distinct lack of het fanart compared to yaoi.
