WHAT?!?!??!
This morning, I checked to see what the "NOT GAME" part of yesterdays concert was on the Court-Records Homepage, when I saw that the manga was apparently released one week early!!! It was supposed to be released the day before my birthday, September 30th, but was apparently released today!
Why do you think they released it early? Are we finally getting through to Capcom?

Actually, It's been planned for a September 23rd release for at least over a month or so. Remember, dates of releases are always subject to change. :edgeworth:

But, this is one of the few cases when we, the consumers, benefit from it. :edgy:

I was surprised that I actually got a copy on the 23rd. My fiancee found it at a bookstore (it was their only copy). I was fully expecting to have to order it from Amazon or something! :pearl:

I've been looking at UK websites and its not clear whats happening with the release.

Amazon have it down as having been released on 19/08 but the price is converted from dollars which suggests theres no European supply chain and have a delivery time of 11-14 days, Play UK hs and WH Smitdon't have it at all and Waterstones have it listed as released on 19/8 as well but no stock or image or synopsis.

Therefore I assume its not actually got a date any more.

I assume the same with be true for RoI and the restof Europe, Darzie P.

Seems like Europe get screwed again :phoenix:

It just came in today.

It's a piece of delicious delight, seriously.

This book is so very enjoyable.

I mean, Phoenix throws his mucus-infested mask at Edgeworth's face.

It's beautiful.

PLEASE GET IT. ;-;

K, sure, so sometimes the art makes you stare like o_o but that's in only some of the stories... and they're all different artists, of course.

... But I love this so much...

.. Probably because I'm such a fangirl... yeah, you could tell. Okay, I'm gonna go and freak out somewhere else now, I'm sorry. *w*

I like it.

A little too much Maya to be honest but I can't imagine I was expecting much else given that it's a Japanese comic book.

Still, *sniffle*, I could have done with some more Ema Skye.

Seriously, though. Is it any good?
Twelve bucks doesn't seem to go too far these days and well, I'd like to save it for something more essential if the book's gonna suck.

What characters get featured in it, and how much?

I only heard about this today (lol, out of the loop), but it seems like a neat thing to have.

Picked up the Phoenix Wright manga a few days ago. I'll try to summarize my feelings in a general way, but there may be minor spoilers. I'll try to tag bigger spoilers. The quality is about what you would expect from a collection of fan-made comics; which it is. Since it's fan made, the quality is a bit hit-or-miss. Some stories are great and/or hilarious, others fall totally flat. (one actually ends with the "Some time later, the story was resolved!" cop-out.) Additionally, some authors nail the characters with the writing and art, while others don't really convey them well.

A lot of the stories are merely fan service; they pay homage to the characters, but don't really do so in a way that knocks you down or makes you think of the character in a new way. I guess I had a few problems with characters doing things that, to me, went too far into the realm of unrealistic wish-fulfillment rather than something that would be genuinely in-character for that person.

About character representation: This volume is largely Phoenix and Maya centric. Most of the stories feature one or both of them. Pearls and Edgeworth are of course very popular, and so they see a fair share of representation as well. Franzy shows up almost as often as Edgy. Godot gets a few throwaway gags. There are also a few fan-inserted characters (largely witnesses/defendants). There aren't any characters from GS4/Apollo Justice, so if you were hoping to see Apollo, Trucy, or Ema, you might be disappointed. In general, the most character representation is from GS1 and 2.

Spoiler: Characters, Shipping, etc. Spoilers.
Grossberg, Adrian, Oldbag, Gumshoe, and Larry get a few small parts. One story related to Oldbag was actually one of the better sections in the volume, I felt. Iris and Dahlia got some very minor parts. The judge is of course around for court scenes. Some stories paired Phoenix and Maya, while one or two paired Edgewright. I think there was even implied Phoenix+Iris in one?

Spoiler: The Awesome Bits, aka The Saving Moments of this Manga. MAJOR SPOILERS.
Larry cross dresses as Mia. Pearls channels Dahlia (we need more fanart of this, asap!). Maya channels... Gumshoe!? It's horrifying, but so funny...

I thought the funniest one was the one with Grossberg. It made me crack up so hard.

Overall, I definitely thought this volume was worth the money.

Yeah, the Grossburg one made me laugh as well :grossburg:

But my fav. was definitly the one with oldbag. It, in my opinion, was the best story and art. Althought the one with chibi art was CUTE!
It was OK. I don't regret buying it, but some stories were kind of dumb.

The Iris+Phoenix is quite well attended to.

Also, Godot is alive in the Mangaverse.

My copy came in the mail today and I am reading it right now XD. Though I don't like the cover though. Feel cheap to copy AA3 case.

btw I don't get the Turnabout Inference one. Especially the Girlfriend.

Spoiler: for Turnabout Inference
She said the girlfriend died and yet she is the girlfriend. Also if she was guilty then that means not every murderer get the life sentence/death penalty? or did she escape prison or something?

In Turnabout Inference, Did anyone figure out the pun/clever world play behind Trysta Parsons's name? I'm stumped. Also, did anyone find this one really sad? :larry:

I can only think of two to three things. One it relates to false accusation, Two it relate to a magazine or three there were a real case with a similar name.

Triste means sad in French, but that's all I know.

Anyway, I'm halfway through it, and Turnabout Kitten is the only one so far that I didn't like.
I don't know how it made it, but the characters (pretty much all of them, maybe except Phoenix and Larry) were OOC.
Well, it wasn't bad, and it looked good, but it just wasn't a believable part of the saga.

Trysta Parsons = Sad Person

Triste also means sad in Spanish and probably a few other languages, for what it's worth.

That actually makes a lot of sense and it does work well for the story. Thanks for clearing this up for me. :larry2:

It came today! Get it, people. Maybe if it sells well, they'll get the idea to translate the official fanbooks or something.

Calling this the 'official case files' was a definite misnomer though. It's very unofficial gag comics by fans. The blurb says '20 exciting cases' but only a few actually have court cases and it's all kind of crack. A definite must-have, however. The English version is hilarious. The title of the blurb is OBJECTION! and between every comic is a page with the big OBJECTION! symbol. So over the top.. I love it. My favourite comics thus far are the one where Phoenix has a cold and the one where Phoenix gets the 'waterfall'. The Oldbag one was kind of good too. The fact they're fan-drawn doesn't detract because each artists' style has its own appreciable quirks.

This manga is different than the 4-komi (four-panel manga) in the fanbooks, right?

Quick question:

Was it Capcom who selected and translated the doujins?

If so, and it sells good enough, maybe they might translate the official manga, too?
That'd be great!

Capcom in Japan obviously had some kind of contest where they selected fan-drawn mangas to be published in an official doujin anthology. Then Del Rey translated these into English.

I wish they'd translate the official fanbooks instead. They look awesome. I'd love to know the stories that go with those pics...

I've got to say, I liked the story where Maya channels Gumshoe. Phoenix: "My eyes have been poisoned!"
