Okay, so I'm not exactly sure where to put this, if there is a better board please tell me. :phoenix:

I was just thinking for his name there could be another possible origin that is listed on his character summary.
Gros is French for large, and can be used to mean a Fat man, I'm currently searching to see if a French word that sounds similar to Berg that could mean something fitting as well. I have Berge, which can mean imbankment (A bank or mound raised for defense) this sounds about fitting.

Anyone agree with my thoughts? Or have an idea for something Marvin might mean to go with this?

It would be kind of strange if they'd used a French etymology, since in French, Grossberg is called Rosenberg (yay! antisemitic archetype!).

Well, in Germany his name is also Grossberg. Some years ago, before all those typical german bureaucratic spelling reforms were made, there was the word "gross" (today "groß") which means a lot: big, giant, great, a bit fat also... And "Berg" means mountain (a lot of german names end on "berg").
So maybe "Fatmountain" :edgy:

But it could also be a combination out of the french gros/grosse for "fat" and the german "Berg" for "mountain". It would also lead on to "Fatmountain" or sth similar. Maybe concerning onto his figure?

(Sorry, didn't read the CR-characterprofile, too lazy :sawit: )

Well it definitely looks like that's the story behind his name. It's a good ammount of evidence.

So really his name just describes what's allready obvious...

"Berg" means mountain. Grossberg could be the name of a special mountain.

I thought it was just a typical Jewish or Jewish-sounding name (from the stereotype of the Jewish lawyer).

Or maybe because he's just gross.

Grossberg literally means "big mountain", so it's about his weight. And I agree that it's supposed to sound stereotypically Jewish.

It's German. [Grossberg=Large Mountain] Quite befitting him, although very offensive in nature.

"Gross" gets its roots from Latin so that's most likely where both languages (French and German) got it from.

So Grossberg is a big mountain.

So are his hemorrhoids just some form of erosion?

Yeah but Klavier (whose name is German for Piano) had his name changed for the European version.

Yes, it fits well there as well. Though the French idea also fits well, and also references to him being a defense attorney.

Yeah likely. It's why a lot of names like this can have multiple ideas for the meaning. :pearl:

Anyway, this thread has no further purpose.
