How come on some sprite pages, there appear to be duplicates of certain sprites?

For instance, on Alita Tiala's page, what is the difference between ohmy(b) and ohmy(c)? Or sad(b) and sad(c)? Or scarf(b) and scarf(c)? T_T I can see that the timing is different (since they aren't speaking and blinking simultaneously), but... is that it? (I mean, if it was just two different timings, why wouldn't every sprite have these two timings?)

Well, it's not that the blinking is timed differently... C doesn't blink at all!

(Or maybe I'm just crazy)

...Then why do some characters have a second sprite that doesn't blink?

(But look at Klavier... his 4 deskwallslam sprites both blink...)

For the airguitar... it's because Croik(?) made one sprite for the full airguitar, and a bunch of different sprites for each part of it.

I don't know why some characters have a second non-blinking sprite, sorry. About the Klavier sprites... Yeah, I have no idea.

I do not know how capping (or whatever it's called) works, but maybe they were found that way....?

It could be also because Croik wanted people to have access to both sets...? Or it could be a mistake...?

Or...? (lol) You'd be better off asking Croik, IMO

I guess it's possible that the difference is that the first are screencapped and the second are gameripped sprites... But why would they do that? Like you said, maybe people want access to both sets, but I don't understand that. Isn't the most accurate one the best?

Actually, I think it's because some of them have shadows on the walls on them.

Shadows? What walls do you mean? Sorry, I'm confused! :meekins:

When he slams the wall, it casts a shadow on it. Some of these sprites include the shadow, some do not.

1. For Klavier, the slamming animation has a version with the shadow and a version without. However, none of the 4 slammed sprites have a shadow.
2. That doesn't account for the duplicate sprites for other characters.

Also, check out Lamirior & Machi. EVERY pose has a duplicate sprite.

(I tried a search and I think Wooster said in a topic about ripping the sprites something like "In AJ some characters have a set of three sets because of minor changes in the story." Of course, I can't think of any minor changes for characters like Alita, Lamirior, and Machi, and I would think that there would also be a duplicate of the non-talking sprite if that happened...)

Klavier's air guitar comes in sections because that's how it's stored in the Rom. I put them all up because some of them are funny by themselves.

The reason some sprites don't blink while talking is because those are the poses that you're able to Perceive, and the giant perceive sprites do not blink.
