What if the Bullet had missed Von Karma?
What if the bullet had missed by about an inch?
Just that tiny inch may have effected the whole game.
Manfred would have never had the urge to shoot Gregory, he may have damaged his record, but the real reason he killed him was because he believed he had shot him.
Therefor, Gregory would be alive, and Edgeworth would never had heard of Von Karma, therefor, Edgeworth would be an Attorney.
Edgeworth and Phoenix would have never been apart, so Phoenix wouldn't have wanted to become a DA, Therefor never going to the Court House, therefor, not meeting Dahlia.
Misty Fey would have never gone missing, so Mia wouldn't have become an attorney, or gotten involved with Dahlia or Redd White, so she'd be alive.
Diego Armando may have never died, seeing as Grossberg would handle the case himself, he only got connected with the case because he wanted to see Mia's first trial.
Who knows about the Feys, though? Maybe Misty would have been killed along with Mia and Maya? DL-6 Didn't effect Dahlia?
That's all I can come up with, but.. yeah.

1) Manfred killed Gregory because of the penalty on the record, not because he thought that he shot him.
2) Phoenix wanted to become a prosecutor, therefore, he would still have needed to go to the courthouse to study and stuff.

...This game as a ton of what ifs. This is just another one... (What if Edgey had actually accused Larry in the classroom trial? What if Gregory told the truth? What if Phoenix gave the necklace back to Dollie? What if Dollie died after she fell off the bridge?)

So, really, it was both the shooting and the penalty that equally made him kill Gregory Edgeworth. So your theory still stands.
But if we continue on this line of logic:
Diego and Mia would have never met and would have never fallen in love.
Diego would have been the defense attorney for State vs. Fawles. Dahlia wouldn't ever have been caught (cute girls never lie) Dahlia would continue a normal life. (she only did all those crimes to cover up the past ones)
Franziska would never start prosecuting in America. Franziska would possible even MORE fucked up than she is now.
