Maya Appreciation Thread (spoilers)

Some say she gets in trouble too much.
Let's count...
In 1-2 she gets accused of murder, which is NOT her fault. Being thrown in prison with pretty much nobody who cares about her, she still doesn't lose her mind and helps Phoenix as she can (she was the one who explained Pressing, remember?).
In 2-2, she gets accused of murder again, which again is NOT her fault. How is being betrayed her fault? Imagine if your lover (or friend, even if you don't ship Nick and Maya, you can't deny that they are friends) gets accused of murder and she's innocent. Would you say "how annoying you are, getting into trouble"?
Next, in 2-4 she gets kidnapped. Not her fault again. She even tries to escape, unlike most damsels in distress.
And finally, there is the epic case, 3-5. Again, a conspiracy against her, and she acts VERY mature and sensible. She doesn't jump in the water or go crying or something, but thinks (okay, she channels Mia for advice, but still...) how to stop the evil Dahlia.
Yes, it's 4, none of them is her fault, she really couldn't do anything against these.
By the way, Phoenix gets into trouble a lot too.
1-2, 3-1, 4-1, 4-4... here we have 4, just like Maya. So you hate Phoenix too?
The only thing why anybody could hate Maya is
Some hate for for being immature. So what if she likes cartoons? Personally, I like them too :)
Anyway, I really admire Maya for being happy all the time while all the bad things happen to her and Phoenix. She has a very positive attitude, and she makes Nick smile in hard times.
You say Maya's unhelpful? What a pathetic statement! Let's count!
First, she channels Mia. Yeah, Mia helps, but without Maya (or Pearl later), no Mia = no help.
Then, she is capable of communicating with ultra-stupid people, like Moe and Max. How could you forget this? And what about Polly (not Apollo, but the bird). It was she who asked everything (including "What did we forget" which was very important).
In 1-4, she says "HOLD IT!" so that she can give Phoenix a chance to break Lotta's lies. She got herself in contempt or court so that she can help Nick.
Again in 1-4, she gets that bullet from von Karma.
In 2-1, who is the one who tracked down all those phone numbers? Maya, of course!
Then who gives Phoenix the Magatama? Maya, of course!
Okay, right now I can't think of any more other than her examination skills and communication skills, but don't tell she doesn't help!
Maya is probably my favorite character, maybe in tie with Phoenix. I'm sad to see all the hate she gets... So show some Maya love!

Through the entire series she not once cries tears of sadness. Considering all she's been through, that's a doozy. Not once do I think she's annoying or gets in trouble too much. In fact, you can't solve any of the 'big' cases without her. Plus, her theme music is to die for.
I looooved how dramatic it is putting Maya on the stand in the final part of the final case.

But FUCK YEAH MAYA. I believe that she is seriously underestimated. When people say she's immature, I couldn't agree less. I can identify with her in that sure, she likes kids shows and says a few not-so-bright comments (so do I), but I believe that she's actually very intelligent and has massive potential. I'm immature, but I'm very smart.

Regarding immaturity, I'd say it's a pro rather that a con.
She is a very positive and happy person who likes to have fun, joke around and so on, just like me. Yeah, and I watch cartoons too.
But when it's time to get serious, Maya is very serious (just like me, again).
She's also very dedicated to help Nick. In 1-4 she basically sacrifices herself 2 times (going to detention and jumping on von Karma).
She also trains very hard, with all those waterfall stuff and who knows what else.
And when Pearls attempts to kill her (even if she is unaware) she doesn't start to hate the li'l cutie or anything like this. A lot of people I know would wanna get some revenge.

I also think it's amazing how strong she is whenever something bad happens to her. She goes through a hell of alot in all three games but never lets it get her down.
As for the imature thing, though in some ways you could say she is [becasue of her love of action super hero shows] i disagree, she shows a great level of maturity in 5-3 in the way that she stays stroung and puts on a happy face for pearl, also in the way that she practically adopts Pearl with no hesitations after the whole Morgan Fey thing shows how much she cares for her.
Anyway, point is Maya is a great charecter and deserves this thread, LONG LIVE MAYA!

So she gets in trouble? It's not because she's Maya, it's because she's the next Kurain Master. It's not her fault at all.
Immature? She's.. playful, but in many respects, she's extremely mature. Extremely emotionally mature, especially. See the way she handles those 'small' matters of her sister being murdered, her aunt repeatedly trying to murder her, her mother being murdered in front of her etc. Instead of showing resentment for Pearl she shows nothing but love and affection when it would have been so easy for a lesser person to transfer the resentment of her aunt trying to replace her with Pearl onto Pearl herself.
Maya's very genuine, and when she cries on screen, I feel for her, because I know she has reason to cry. She doesn't just go and cry in a corner for no reason.

Okay, here's a big one for increasing my respect for Maya. The sacrifices she makes for Phoenix and justice in general.
1-4 Taking that taser to try to save the evidence. She knows she's going to get electrocuted, and takes the electrocution instead of Phoenix, I believe.
1-4 again Being held in contempt of court to save Edgeworth's life, fully aware she will be arrested.
2-4 She's prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of justice and not forcing Phoenix to violate his ethics for her sake. She implores Phoenix to get the guilty verdict for Engarde even though she knows this has an extremely high probability of her being killed. Most people would have thought only of themselves and hoped for the 'Not Guilty' so they could be saved. Not Maya. She knows it might be the end of her. She even tells Pearl to look after Phoenix for her, so she is fully aware she may never come back. [Oh, can we say that kind of sacrifice shows extreme emotional and ethical maturity?]
Maya is very helpful. [Besides, all her courtroom comments have a clue in them, don't they]. Let's quote Phoenix in 2-4, getting that vital bear figure passed out of the cat door by Maya "(Every time you give me a piece of evidence, it's always the most crucial piece. I'm sure this time is no different.)"
Besides, Maya regularly made me laugh myself sick. The 'BUR' sign in 3-2 springs to mind.

So I decided to brave the horrors of case 2-3 for a replay, and Maya is studying those law books! The ones Phoenix is too scared to touch. How's that for dedication to her job. Maya has always been a great source of humor during the investigations, just as Max is for Sam and Max. She's a great completion to the classic adventure duo; the curious, immature sidekick that makes witty commentary at every "Look At Object".
I'm gone for so long, and the colors got all psychedelic! Woohoo!

Basically, she is one of my favourite characters. Maybe, because we share some similar trates. We both like cartoons and junk food. We both are cheerful and sometimes acting immature. I like her for her sence of humor, for her optimistic view on life, I admire Maya for her guts - she's been dealing with some serious troubles. If I were on her place, I would broke down already. Also Maya appeals to me, because of her kind-hearted nature and because she really cares about people who are dear to her. Well, most of these reasons have been already said. I seriously don't get why some people dislike her. Sure, she can be annoying sometimes, but it's just permanent!
