Personally, I'm on Team Stepladder for life.
Good investigators must pay attention to the finer details.
Besides, stepladders have SO many more practical uses than ladders do.
Team Stepladder:

-"They're so much more flexible than plain old ladders!"
-"(Surely everyone knows the difference... I mean, they're pretty ordinary objects...)"

Whoa, thanks! I've been wanting to know what terms were used in the original Japanese!How strange... The kanji used for each are completely different... I mean, seeing as how they're supposedly similar things, you'd think they might share a kanji. But they don't. I'd say that's good evidence of them being inherently different things that deserve to be distinguished in English, too!

1) disrupting a symbolic Holy Trinity or whatever, and
2) the obvious fact that you're going to be squished if it falls. xD
Setting aside religion... I'd say that a stepladder is probably less likely to fall (since it's more stable), so that makes it better -- but then again, being made of metal, it'd probably hurt more if it did fall... So I guess neither side really has the advantage there... Let's just all agree to respect step/ladders from a distance and not stupidly walk under them...
