@ shinyjiggly ...Wow, interesting points!! I never would have considered some of those!

The japanese words for ladder and step-ladder are hashigo (bridge child) and kyatatsu (I could only identify the last kanji which means "upright").
Whoa, thanks! I've been wanting to know what terms were used in the original Japanese!
How strange... The kanji used for each are completely different... I mean, seeing as how they're supposedly similar things, you'd think they might share a kanji. But they don't. I'd say that's good evidence of them being inherently different things that deserve to be distinguished in English, too!

Both are said to give bad luck if you walk under them,
Let's see...
The two reasons that it's bad luck to walk under a ladder/stepladder are...
1) disrupting a symbolic Holy Trinity or whatever, and
2) the obvious fact that you're going to be squished if it falls.
xDSetting aside religion... I'd say that a stepladder is probably less likely to fall (since it's more stable), so that makes it better -- but then again, being made of metal, it'd probably hurt more if it
did fall... So I guess neither side really has the advantage there... Let's just all agree to respect step/ladders from a distance and not stupidly walk under them...

Not that many regular (non-gamer) people around here even use the word step-ladder.
Uh-huh. I'd say that's motivation for the Stepladder side. Be unique! One of the few and enlightened! Show your PW pride by showing off the valuable piece of knowledge you gained from the game!
Stepladders forever!!@ Neni
