Come join the eternal debate!

Personally, I'm on Team Stepladder for life.
Good investigators must pay attention to the finer details.
Besides, stepladders have SO many more practical uses than ladders do.

Team Stepladder:
:phoenix: :minuki: :keylady:
Image
-"They're completely different!"
-"They're so much more flexible than plain old ladders!"
-"(Surely everyone knows the difference... I mean, they're pretty ordinary objects...)"
-"[A step ladder is] a much more complex piece of machinery. It's like two ladders stuck together!"
-"From their structure up, they're totally different! ... A step-ladder is much too heavy to carry around, after all."

Team Ladder:
:maya: :odoroki: :edgeworth: :ema: :eh?:
Image
-"You have to look past the form... at the essence of the thing."
-"You need to stop judging things based on narrow-minded cultural assumptions...!"
-"They do the same thing, right? I think you should stick to the basic facts of the matter."
-"I've met plenty of guys like you, always picking on the smallest details. ... You gotta take a step back and look at the bigger picture sometimes.
Otherwise you could miss a really important clue. That's advice from a pro, pal!"
-"And from a prosecutor's perspective, any ladder is guilty... of being dangerous during an earthquake."

Which side do you take?
Why is the difference so important or unimportant to you?
Got any critical evidence for either side?
Any amazing (step)ladder-related fanart?
(I know some people have some~)

Discuss~! :keiko:

Hmm... this is a tough one. The japanese words for ladder and step-ladder are hashigo (bridge child) and kyatatsu (I could only identify the last kanji which means "upright"). A ladder needs something to lean against if you're trying to climb it but a step-ladder is free standing so it needs no outside support. Both are said to give bad luck if you walk under them, Not that many regular (non-gamer) people around here even use the word step-ladder. I'm still not sure what side to take...

...Because I felt the need to advertise my fanfic with a self-drawn, animated banner. Yes, I'm obsessed, why do you ask?

@ shinyjiggly ...Wow, interesting points!! I never would have considered some of those!

Whoa, thanks! I've been wanting to know what terms were used in the original Japanese!
How strange... The kanji used for each are completely different... I mean, seeing as how they're supposedly similar things, you'd think they might share a kanji. But they don't. I'd say that's good evidence of them being inherently different things that deserve to be distinguished in English, too!

Let's see...
The two reasons that it's bad luck to walk under a ladder/stepladder are...
1) disrupting a symbolic Holy Trinity or whatever, and
2) the obvious fact that you're going to be squished if it falls. xD
Setting aside religion... I'd say that a stepladder is probably less likely to fall (since it's more stable), so that makes it better -- but then again, being made of metal, it'd probably hurt more if it did fall... So I guess neither side really has the advantage there... Let's just all agree to respect step/ladders from a distance and not stupidly walk under them... :-P

Uh-huh. I'd say that's motivation for the Stepladder side. Be unique! One of the few and enlightened! Show your PW pride by showing off the valuable piece of knowledge you gained from the game! Stepladders forever!!

@ Neni
Yyyyes~!! x3 You have no idea how in love I am with that picture. Please, may I put in the opening post? :keiko:

There are plenty of dumb threads already, we don't need anymore, thanks.
