So basically all the people on here who are registered are the ones obsessed enough to create an account, and write in the forums. But how'd you get to be so obsessed? Oh, and sorry to whoever had to take the time to take this off when I accidentally put it on the wrong forum(Oops)

I wouldn't be so bold to state that all people here are 'obsessed', everyone has their own reason for being here. I certainly do.

I played the trilogy a year ago if I remember correctly. I still am enamoured by those 3 games because of a well told story with characters I actually give a damn about. Now I've played my fair share of games across multiple systems and experienced some great stuff. But I reiterate my point that the original 3 are the games of choice for me. I like the linearity and the excellent combination of humour and drama while keeping a specific charm that makes it unique in my eyes.

I've been here to court records as a visitor multiple times to read all the collected info on this series and spinoffs. I also checked the forums and witnessed the immense discussion on anything whether they be pairings, plot holes, fav. music, etc. I was afraid of coming here for various reasons, but I decided to join and share my thoughts (however few and far between they are).

I'm a 20 year old male with a recurrent depressive disorder that almost claimed my life. And as dramatic as this will sound, PW helped me through a dark time. Going back to play these games again bring up terrible memories, but also bright and joyous ones.

Didn't mean to ramble too much about myself there. :grossburg:

^ ...W-wow, what a deep-rooted history with the series!
Now I feel silly coming in here with a shallow story and nothing short of what can be called "obsession," but oh well...

I'm fairly sure I was introduced to the series through the fantastic Objection! website. :keiko:

The style and the characters looked awesome, and I found the very idea of a "lawyer game" fascinating. I hardly play anything mainstream; I like offbeat games that I can get deeply involved with. This thing called "Ace Attorney" sounded like just my cup of tea coffee. :Godot-object:

I went through a looong period of "I know about this game called Ace Attorney. I want to play this game called Ace Attorney. I'm sure I'll love this game called Ace Attorney. Ahahaha, look at me making 'Objection!' a part of my household vocabulary and drawing the characters on school assignments about the legal system but not actually finding time to play this game called Ace Attorney." :meekins:

It was probably because I'm not usually big on buying handheld games. I prefer playing on consoles. So it was only when I discovered that the original trilogy was available on WiiWare that I finally went ahead and seized the chance. I actually had only intended to buy one of the games, to "try it out," not realizing how much the three games would intertwine and how much better it would be to play them in order (and so I almost made the mistake of picking the third game first due to its having the highest reviews out of what I looked up online). But, thankfully, I went with the original.

Playing the first game, I already felt like a super-fan.
I went to Anime Expo with four and a half cases under my belt (up to the very minute before getting in the car to go, I was still struggling to get as far through "Rise from the Ashes" as possible, but couldn't finish in time!).
My main goals at the convention were to get pictures of PW cosplayers and to buy PW-related art -- which I did, by the way, and which was awesome~.

...But boy was I a sucky fan.
I...I saw a Maya cosplayer and called her "Mia" by accident. Geez. I'll never forgive myself for that. :punch-ben:
And there were Apollo Justice cosplayers everywhere, but...I didn't even recognize them...! I knew the character looked familiar in some way, but...but...
my first thought was that it was Viewtiful Joe. xDDD;;
Hey, they're both red with a spiky head, and I'd never played either's game; g-gimme a break!

ANYWAY. After finally finishing the first game, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to play the others.
So I did. And got a little less ignorant.
I really hate being a superficial fan of something. When I find a fandom like this that I can get really into, I want to know everything about it; I want to make it a big part of my life.

It's Court-Records, of course, that has helped nurture mine into a full-fledged obsession! :edgy: I've now played all the currently-released games, am totally looking forward to the future games. I discovered this amazing fandom way too late, and I can only hope to make up for by continuing to immerse myself completely in its amazingness.

Alright, sit down as I tell my tale :yogi:
(Warning: Long post is LO~ONG!)
It started about 4 years ago now, on a sunny day in Anaheim, CA. I had gotten dehydrated, not being used to so much sun and was confined to the hotel room. However, my leaders told me that I could invite a friend over from another hotel room and that is where our tale really begins...
She started to describe to me this DS game series she was into, about lawyers. She told me to try it and strongly recommended that I pick one up. Now, when I got home, I looked but all I could find was Trials and Tribulations, and not wanting to start with the 3rd game I continued my fruitless search.
Fast forward a year and a half, I am now sitting at school eating lunch with some friends. When I notice one of them is playing her DS.
"Whatcha playing?" I ask.
"Phoenix Wright," she replies.
"Can I watch?"
"Umm, ok." So, I watched her for a few minutes. She was also playing Trials and Tribulations.
Another year goes by, now I'm leaving my new Taekwon-do class chatting with one of my instructors. She tells me she writes fan fiction, but I probably haven't heard of the series, it's about lawyers.
"Is it Phoenix Wright?" I ask her.
"Yes!" she replies. Time goes by, we get to become friends, I get to know her on a first name basis. At this point I've read both the English manga. I'm over at her house one night, she hands me the first game and I start playing it. Over the next 4 months I borrow and beat all 4 games that are currently released. Then I sit on my hands and anxiously await the release of Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney: Investigations.
That dear friends is my tale, spanning 4 years and 5 games. I'm now proud to say that I own both English manga, the official art book, Every game on DS except the original, and the first 2 on Wii, as well as 9 partial cosplays, 7 of them wearably close to finished, 4 of them completely finished.

Come check out my sprites! :odoroki:
So I heard you like cosplay?
I've got an idea that's to DIE for...let's do the chicken dance!

I went to the rental store looking to get a game after finishing Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I liked the idea of a logic-based game, but didn't really know if there were any others like that. I was almost going to rent Pokemon Diamond again (my third time, lol) because I saw nothing else I wanted, when I picked up Apollo Justice.

"They've got another one of these?" I say to myself as I noticed the familiar Ace Attorney logo. "Who the hell is Apollo Justice? I thought the guy had a different name..."

I had seen the other Ace Attorney games in the store before, but I thought the main character in the blue suit looked like an arrogant and annoying character. This red guy looked fine, though, so I brought Apollo Justice to the counter. The guy with the glasses on the front looked interesting, too.

A really tall British guy was standing at the counter when I got there.
"Is this for you?" he asks when I set down the case.
"Yeah," I say. Why?
"It's a wonderful game. See this guy?" he points to Klavier. "That's Klavier Gavin. He's a rock star. Pretty hot." I lol to myself as I wondered whether he actually thought that or said it to convince me to rent the game. Either option was funny.
"It's the fourth game in the series, though", he continues, "and you'd probably want to play them in order if you haven't."
"Uh...OK."
He points to the shelf and tells me to go get the first game. I come back with what I think is the first one (it is) and pay.

I bring it home and play it non-stop for hours. This main character wasn't arrogant at all! He was actually rather endearing.

After five days, I return the game and wait a few weeks to get the next one. The same guy is there again, and he tells me that Justice for All, apparently the second game, is even better than the first. I didn't necessarily agree, but I play it and enjoyed it.

I went back again about a month later and the guy's still there. Did they have any other staff at the place? Ah well, he was nice. He laughs as I rent Trials and Tribulations and tells me that since I've been coming here, he's wanted to play Ace Attorney again. He says that there's a game solely about Edgeworth coming out, and that makes me flip. I didn't know that! By this time, I was really obsessed.

About two months after renting the first game, and a week and a half after playing the third, I go back the the store, hoping that guy was there again. It was time to rent Apollo Justice, and he'd always said that it was the best one. I walk in and he's not standing there. Instead is an odd looking kid with a really high voice. I cry on the inside.

Sadly, I leave with the game and before I open the case, somehow manage to spoil myself on every single aspect. Joy. I play the game anyway and really enjoy it...It was over for about seven months, though, because I had to wait for Ace Attorney Investigations to come out. (Hotel Dusk filled in that gap, ahahaha)

My friends played it last year. I had a vague idea of what it was about but I didn't have the time to play it. Then I was like "Ah, what the heck? I'll give it a try!" and then after that, I couldn't stop playing the first game. The game itself was addicting, the fandom that came with it was just an afterthought. It's very analytical and the stories are intriguing and most of the characters are very loveable! And I'm a sucker for puns so I found that pretty entertaining. Anyway, the game's really like a can of Pringles. Once you pop, you can't stop. I only came to stumble upon the fandom when I myself was starting to think like a fangirl... wanting to ship this-and-that and enjoying jokes poking fun at the series. The addiction for this series just... blossomed on its own, I suppose.

I found out about the series when someone showed me the "Phoenix Wrong: Boot to the Head" animation. I actually became interested in the series after seeing the sprites. Something about the dynamics of the sprite usage in this series is really eye-catching. Also, the Boot to the Head skit was (and still is) hilarious.

Here's my story!

My sister used to play Phoenix Wright A LOT. I would always watch her when she played. I started watching her when she started playing Justice For All. When I saw Franziska and her whip and how she whipped Phoenix I thought, "Wow. Ladies with whips are scary." Time goes on and she's still not done with Justice For All.
Then A LOT of time passes. She doesn't play Phoenix Wright for about two months. I'm scrolling through the games on our R4 on the December of 2009, when I see the Phoenix Wright games. I ask my sister, "Can I play this game?" She says,"Yeah, sure. I don't really play anymore." I start on Trials and Tribulations, but luckily my sister was watching me play and she said, "Wait! That's not the first game! Start with the first one. I finished it."
I start with the first game. While I'm playing the first case I think,"Well this isn't so hard. It's actually pretty cool!" Now that I've been playing Phoenix Wright my sister goes and starts replaying Justice For All. By the time I'm on the fourth case she's on Trials and Tribulations. She says I can't watch her play anymore because 1) There would be too many spoilers about the awesomeness of Trials and Tribulations and 2) I would know all the answers to the questions that they ask you in court. I play through all the games with a little help from walk-throughs on the internet(thank you, internet!). I am obsessed with Phoenix Wright. So much that I actually act like some of the characters(ex: When my friend kicked me I hugged myself like Adrian Andrews and said, "OWW!"). Even on one of my projects where we were supposed to write a journal entry from the point of view of an African American slave I made my name Adrian Andrews, but my mom changed it to Adrianne Andrews. I get so obsessed that even when someone says something wrong I say, "OBJECTION!!!!" Then I found this site, where I could express my love for Phoenix Wright. My sister bought me a Phoenix Wright manga that I read through in one day.
Soo, yeah. That's my story!

I got hooked on Ace Attorney when I was on another forum, creating custom Yu-Gi-Oh mats. We share designs there (help each other make them look better), and I saw an Ace Attorney mat featuring Phoenix and Apollo. After I helped him, I went to search the game up. I watched Youtube walkthroughs, and eventually played them myself.

An openly gay friend of mine made a remark to the effect that I was "a heterosexual version of Miles Edgeworth." I didn't understand the reference at all, so he explained it to me.

(Although his explanation really painted Miles as a bit more canonically gay than the character actually is. It turned out that aforementioned friend just passionately shipped Phoenix and Miles, to the point where he essentially considered Miles canonically gay and Phoenix canonically bisexual.)

I asked another friend about the Ace Attorney series, and he gave it a great review and said I should check it out because at the time I was just starting to explore the possibility of attending law school and becoming a lawyer. At the time, however, I did not own a DS. So initially I actually watched the first three cases (1-1, 1-2 and 1-3, as well as the intro "cutscene" of 1-4) on Youtube; there were a few Youtube accounts that had uploaded the cases, and you could effectively watch someone else play through them.

I really enjoyed the cases (although I initially vehemently disagreed with the assessment that I was anything like Edgeworth, because in the first game he really came off as a huge jerk. It wasn't until I played through the second and third games of the original trilogy that I concluded my friend was right. We really did have a lot in common.)

I was definitely intrigued, but the first friend I mentioned stopped me from watching any more cases on Youtube. He was livid and told me I had to experience the games firsthand. When I told him I had reached 1-4, he told me that I absolutely had to play through 1-4 myself. So, I saved up my money and in a few months, I had enough to purchase a DS and the first two Ace Attorney games.

...And the rest was history. In a strange way, Ace Attorney really did inspire me to pursue a career in law. It's one of the few fictional narratives that has really had a profound influence on my life.
Sadly for my friend, however, I don't ship Phoenix and Miles. (He was disappointed to hear that.)

The first game is one of two games (the other is Elite Beat Agents) I have ever bought on a whim simply due to being something I hadn't experienced before. It was about the time I got to fourth episode that I was suffering an acute euphoric orgasm from how the music and animations perfectly complimented the events in the story, combined with an excellent balance of linear exploration and challenge (something that is not easy to implement smoothly in an adventure game) to deliver a silver platter of virtual delicacies I never knew could be experienced.

After beating the game, I heard there was a sequel, bought that, loved it even more than the first game, and jizzed in my boxers when I learned the day after completing JFA that a third game had been announced for a North American release, despite the fact that I would eventually come to detest it as the worst game in the series.

And the rest is history.

I saw the first game in my local toystore when I was about 12-13 (I'm 15 now). It always has some mainstream games in, and I think this had been lying there lonely for months, if not years.
I had seen some videos on youtube, and all in all heard about this game where you point and shout "Objection!". Looking for a new game, I bought it.
What was to come is what always happen when I buy a new game: I was hooked. Playing it for every second I could, I loved it.
Hah, I remember going out in my kitchen when finishing case 4, happily talking about how the prosecutor was the murderer, her going: "Shouldn't prosecutors be the nice people? O_o"
After that I bought Apollo Justice, since that was the current game released. I loved it just as much, even though it had a different tone to it.
My brother found Trials and Tribulations in a video game store much later, and once again I was introduced to Phoenix and all the others once again.
...but I had yet to play JFA.
Finally, I found it online. And bought it. And played it. Rest is history. C8
Yeah. I didn't exactly play the trilogy in order.
Now, having bought AAI on release date, I'm a full-fledged geek.
And damn happy about it.

I was in high school when I got the first game. I put it on my Christmas list that year since it was the same year Pokémon Diamond and Pearl came out [so it was the year I got my DS, in other words] and needed some more games to play. I put like 7 or 8 games on the list but my parents could only afford 3, and lo and behold, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was one of them. My mother later told me it was the cheapest one and that's why she got it [along with two other games but I sold those later that year].
For those curious, the games I got that Christmas were Sonic Rush and Starfox Command, the other games on my list included Nintendogs, Animal Crossing Wild World, Professor Layton, Tetris DS, and Mario Kart DS.

I didn't even pick up Phoenix Wright and play it until I moved to another state, a stay which would turn out to only be a month long, and I started playing it while I was there. New state, new game to play, so why not? I thought the first two cases were comical but put it down after that.

When I came back "home" to my previous state I celebrated by staying at my best friend's house, and I brought all my DS games with me just in case she wanted to try out Star Fox or something. She was curious about PW so I decided to play it and show her what it was, and we laughed throughout the whole of case 1-3, which we played in one sitting. I got started on 1-4 but then we had to go to sleep, but the next morning was all about Edgeworth. XD

I finished 1-4 in the car on my way home [she was still there, she wanted to see the shocking conclusion, XD] and after that I was totally hooked. I brought the game to school and finished it there - where some friends and I in the middle of Creative Writing class started reading the text out loud, each one of us being a different character. XD

So after that everyone begged me to get my hands on the other two games. :]

My sister borrowed JFA from her friend. I thought it was lame. She was playing it. And my cousin was watching her. My cousin andmy sister worked as a team on the first case solving the contradictions and motives while giving high fives. I was curious. Was it really that fun? So I started to watch too. I thought it looked pretty cool. "Hey, can I help play the next case?" I asked.
"Yeah, sure!" they replied. So then on the 2nd case. I defeated it by myself. And got addicted ever since!

I just ran out of games to play one day and borrowed it off of a friend. I was hooked before I finished the first case and rushed out as soon as I could to get the rest of the games.

This is my first post and is really long so please bear with me

Well my first ever encounter with the Ace Attorney series was around 5 years ago when i was only eleven. I had recently aquired my DS and i was looking for some games to get with it. I remember i was looking for Nintendogs but i decided to check every single new game being sold. I came across Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and had a brief look at it, it looked interesting but i was intent on getting a fun, childish and light hearted game like Nintendogs. For the next three years I never thought twice about Phoenix Wright.

(this part may seem off topic but it isn't)
After those three years I got bored of all my games (was constantly playing pokemon games for those three years :redd: ). Earlier in 2008 my friend went to the states on a visit and bought Professor Layton so i borrowed it from him. Needless to say i was thoroughly entertained and it gave me a new appreciation for games that actually involve some thought and logic. When i finished the game i went online to gaming sites and looked for reviews to see if other gamers enjoyed the Level-5 game as much as i did. As i was looking online I noticed a vaguely familiar picture in a small sidebar showing similar games. I looked at the picture closely and lo and behold it was that same image i saw on the PW cover 3 years ago. The reviews seemed good and i decided that it was time to pay the game store a visit. When i went to the store i was lucky to find that there were a couple pre-owned copies, needless to say i bought one on the spot.

I started playing the game and i really enjoyed the humor and puns in the script as well as the thought processes involved but of course the best part was the characters. As soon as i finished the first game i got the second from a friend. However the game was lacking for me and it seemed like a re-hash of the previous title... but that was only the first two cases. After that the re-introduction of old characters and constant references to the previous game made the game for me and it's the main reason i love this series, i can not stand any series where characters disappear into thin air. From that moment i was obsessed. I could not stop playing i loved every minute of the games.

If you read all this, thank you for hearing my story... if not, i don't blame you

I've always been a big fan of the "magic realism" genre- as much its Latin roots in Gabriel Garcia Marquez as its American incarnations in a series of quirky, dark-fantasy detective shows. "Pushing Daisies" was good, but to me, the greatest achievement in television drama of this kind was the iconic "Twin Peaks."

Cue my college years. When discussing "Twin Peaks" and the works of David Lynch with a friend of mine, she said, "Have you ever played the Phoenix Wright games?" When I said no, she said "You'd like them. It's pretty much Twin Peaks, but you're a lawyer who moonlights as a detective, instead of an FBI agent who moonlights as a spirit medium. There IS a medium though, and she's cute."

I picked up the game. Fell completely in love with the series. And, the end.

Basically this for me. I knew about it for a while, and it was on my "games to play (...eventually >_>)", but eventually I got it. I played it over a vacation... The day I got home I ordered JFA, T&T, and AJ xD

Heard about it in a vg magazine 4 years ago. I got it for my birthday, I remember I found the first case hilariously over-the-top. I got hooked pretty gradually, and by 1-4 I knew this would be one of my favourite games ever, with 1-5 sealing the deal. I also happened to play it during one of the best months of my life, which is why I've developed the habit of associating PW games with specific memories, good or bad (T&T was a case of the latter, but it was so good I essentially forgot about my problems). Sometimes I replay the games to capture the feeling of the first time I completed them. Replaying them for that purpose made me notice many hidden depts that hadn't caught my attention on my first playthrough, and accidentally turned the nostalgia-driven motive into a more analytical approach (though both reasons still coexist) : how are the games constructed? What makes them so good? The logical conclusion was, of course, me making my own game, which evolved from a thought in the back of my mind to an obsession of my imagination to a (still hard to believe) reality =)

For me, the first connection with PW was actually the boot to the head. Then I decided to give the game itself a try, and was amazed at the depth and complexity of both the characters and the story. Linear or not, it's always a pleasure to go and reply most of the episodes.

^ This is full of win.

Many people have stated these games are visual novels. And as such, we are led through the story along with some minor gameplay. I think most folk's don't like being told where to go and instead want to roam around aimlessly and be given multiple choices to affect the game world itself. I like the AA series the way it is, I'd rather read a book front to back, than flip through it over and over like a choose your own adventure book.

This is just my opinion.

My father bought the first game PW:AA to my 14th birthday. Since then, I'm rather obsessed about this to play and play the games again. Now I had the 4 games (playing 5 x) and finally I have ME:AAI, but I pay it from my money, because it's no birthday and christmas is in 2 months and I can't wait too long D:

Me too. I look after a few vids on youtube and then I found it and can't stop watching this. :redd:

My friends are playing the games, too. And it's so much fun to know, which failed at the game and which not (:

The beginning was quite fun, just with all the ups and downs

I had a kinda silly and fangirlish reason.

Spoiler:
I saw it in a magazine review for 2010 games which shows AAI. Upon seeing Edgeworth's pic for the first time, I was hooked at him :keiko: And then I read further, and said, "A Gyakuten Saiban spin-off? A lawyer game? Weird... I'll check out this guy only, nothing else...". Then I did some searching on Wiki and Youtube... and watch people play it I'm not a gamer, I don't have a DS and fell in love with Edgeworth, Phoenix, Maya, Apollo, Trucy...and many more. I was also amazed at its unique style and plot. And then, through Phoenix Wrongs, I found out about CR. Now I'm a GS fan and is waiting for the next installment in the series.

So, you can say Edgeworth did it :edgy:

I was just shopping and wanted something new for DS.
It was a crappy shop and there wasn't anything special.
Then again...Back then there weren't that many DS games either...Well anyway.

It was either AA or Advance Wars, which I allready had,
so I bought it and checked what I've gotten into again.

And...Well...Here we are.
Over four years later and waiting for a AAI 2, with other games in my closet.
It was an accident that made my day.

Well, to start off, I've always loved Murder Mysteries - I'm a huge fan of Poirot, and Sherlock Holmes - which is a huge factor of why I'm still in love with this series. But here's my story.

Well, 4 years ago, when I was 9, as a Christmas present, my aunt gave me a Nintendo magazine, in which they advertised Ace Attorney. Being the ignorant little boy that I was, I thought it was some weird RPG. So, I ran into the game shop one day, a few months later, and there it was: Apollo Justice, the game that I had seen. So I bought it, and loved it. Well actually, at first I had no idea what it was, but once I got the gist of contradictions, I quickly fell in love.

So, yeah.

The Boot to the Head.

.. Hah 8D
First I watched the video and then I bought the games..

But.. But. I bought not the first game of PW, because it wasn't here. The young, dumb, obsessed kids run directly in the store and cried alot of: "Ohmigod! It's PW! Ohmigod! I want that!" *grab*

I had luck. My father bought me the first part on eBay, when it was here and I had to wait with the second part, well, then I'll be confused and so..
After playing T&T's, I heard from another game about a red tomato. x'D
.. The red tomato was of course Apollo, but I didn't know that before. Hah. So I run in the store, fell on my butt and grab the LAST game ever! Wow, that was a record.. I grabbed tbe last, last, last game ever.
So. I played it and it was.. really amazing! I began to like Polly. But the rock-star on the other side (in the second case) not..

That was my story. My whole story? Nada. But yeah, now you know it. (:

I had five dollars left over from a itunes gift card, and on the last day of school, I downloaded it for iPhone in the morning (no reason, just looked interesting.) I got out of school early and played it. Fell in love, played the 2nd and 3rd on wii, spin-offs on DS.

My mom bought AA, beat it, and let me play it. Let's just say it was all my mom's fault I'm addicted to yaoi now. Because it's all AA's fault.
