Basically, I'm beating the PWs in chronological order, AKA:

3-4
3-1
1-1
1-2
1-3
1-4
1-5
2-2
2-1
2-3
2-4
3-2
3-3
3-5

I'm in the middle of 2-2 now. I haven't yet decided if I should count AJ or not, since the chronology gets a bit messy given 4-4. I'm also not counting AAI, because the story for that game is so self-contained that splitting it up with 3 games in the middle takes away pretty much everything from AAI's plot.

But anyway, it's pretty interesting so far. Playing 3-4 and 3-1 before 1-1 and 1-2 REALLY adds a lot to Mia's death and Edgeworth's appearance. Though I do see it taking a bit away form Dahlia's 3-5 appearance. >.> Oh, and Grossberg feels more relevant, too. 1-5 right before 2-2 makes the Phoenix/Gumshoe implied friendship thing in 2-2 feel pretty cool, and Maya's reappearance really feels like a big deal.

The only downside I've seen so far is that the dialogue in 3-4 and 3-1 is so much better than 1-1 and 1-2, it's almost embarrassing. >.> But that's no big deal.

Anyway, for anyone who wants to rebeat the games, I recommend doing this. It's really fun and it actually adds a lot to the series.

I can totally see that -- and I'd say it would also even add a new level of depth to first seeing Phoenix as a lawyer, right? Meeting his crazy college self in 3-1 (not to mention, seeing his interactions with his future mentor) and then getting to see what he becomes. That sounds cool.

I don't know if I'll ever get the time, but now I'd really love to try this sometime. ^^

I beat 2-2...Ini really is a good villain. Her story was great and she's one the more sympathetic characters in the series.

2-1 and 2-3 should be fun...They're my two least-beaten cases in the series (only 3 times each as opposed to at least 8 for every other case in the series), so there will be more surprises for me.

I've always wanted to do a chronological playthrough, and yeah, AJ was what always held me back.

Actually, I do wonder what it would be to play AAI 1-4 before PW 3-4. But as you said, the game it so self-contained that the Yatagarasu and Yew stuff would likely be forgotten by the end of PW 3-5.

Cool idea! I tried doing it once. I failed :P

May I ask, why 2-2 before 2-1?

I might beat AJ after PW3 anyway, and just consider the middle of 4-4 as a recollection/Apollo seeing what happened.

It's kind of weak as an explanation, but I only own one AJ, and with that it makes it really hard to fit AJ in. =\

2-2 takes place before 2-1. 2-2 is when Phoenix/Maya reunite for the first time since 1-4, and in 2-1 they've already been back together for a while. IIRC 2-2 takes place in July while 2-1 takes place in September.

8 times!? I had a hard time beating it once! (I hated JFA besides 2-4)

You know what would be really interesting, playing it this way, on the exact dates :D

Though that would probably take a while...

I've actually considered doing a real-date playthrough, but it would take ages and you'd probably forget most of the story between cases. >_>

Well yeah, if you're, say, 15 when you start, you'll be 30 or something when you finish (if you plan on doing AJ too) :payne:

Replaying 2-3 really reminds me of how much I suspected Regina on my first playthrough. She's really suspicious up until you break Acro's PL. And even after that, she's still pretty high up there on the suspect list. >_>

And I just found out that Edgeworth never stepped back into court after 1-4. ;-; I guess I was hallucinating for the duration of 1-5...Again.

I've considered doing a real-date playthrough myself, for a video walkthrough on youtube (Skipping the whole "Seven year gap" problem) I was also going to have the end of AAI-4 (When it jumps back to the present) put immediately after AAI-3, with maybe a few personal pics of AAI-4 put in there to remind people of what's happening.

The main reasons I haven't done this:
1. I don't have a DS emulator/Rom for Any PW games,
2. I also don't have a microphone to record my voice.

Yeah, I-4 is, chronologically, the first case in the series. In I-4, Edgeworth is SUPPOSED to have his first case, but it's canceled due to the murder, which later means that 3-4 is his first case.

I'm on 3-2 now. I forgot that you actually got Phoenix's profile for the first time in the series in this case.

Also, doing 3-2 right after 2-4 highlights a lot of the changes in Adrian's personality. It's pretty neat.

I beat 3-5 today...And cried like a baby at the end of it. Partially due to the ending itself being inherently sad, partially due to the knowledge that it's all over.

Definitely not going to go through AJ for a while. 3-5 just wraps it all up too nicely to ruin with AJ for now. So instead I'm going to pretend that Phoenix doesn't lose his attorney's badge, nor does he apparently lose touch with everyone that he cares about, nor does he lose his personality and become a hobo. He stays an attorney, and lives happily at the office with Maya and occasionally Pearl, with visits from their friends Lotta, Larry, Iris, Penny, Edgeworth, Franziska, Gumshoe, Regina, Max, Moe, Cody, Maggey, Adrian, Ron, Desiree, and Godot (who got away with a 'justified self-defense' charge). I love being optimistic!

Also, it definitely reaffirmed my knowledge that 3-5 is, without a doubt, the best case in the series. I love that case so much. <3<3

Sounds like an amazing experience. I've definitely got to try it sometime. (Sometime in the far, far future, when I can find the time...)

I finally played all three games chronologically and it was really fun! Like I started on AA:JFA and then AA:PW and then AA:T&T...But anyways, I've beaten all 3 like 10 times now. I'm debating whether or not to get AJ. I just don't wanna think that in AJ:
Spoiler:
Maya isn't there, Phoenix is all hobo-ish, Phoenix has an annoying daughter...well adopted daughter...

AJ just makes me sad...

This may or may not be relevant, but now that we're on the subject of chronology, in less than a month the second KG-8 incident will occur.

Yeah, ditto...I don't like thinking that these cases that wreak havoc in the lives of many people would actually happen. Kinda scary... :payne:

Thanks for compiling this list! I like replaying games in different ways, such as no damage runs or speedruns, but I never imagined I would be able to do something like that with Ace Attorney. I'll have to try this sometime!

Why is it that so few people take comfort in Phoenix's statement in AJ that a "kid" sent him children's action show DVDs? Did people just not think his hospital room was worth examining? I don't see why "Apollo doesn't run into Maya" implies "Phoenix never talks to her." Also, it's less like he lost his personality to become a hobo and more like he lost it to become a law-bending mastermind.

He is probably still guilty of evidence tampering even if he gets off on self-defense . He may have also trespassed on Fey property to find the "death note," although he could actually plead justification for that too :chinami: .
