Since Capcom announced that Pearl Fey was returning in Gyakuten Saiban 5, I've been wondering...

Do spirits age?

For example, if Jane Smith died 60 years prior to PW:AA, and someone like Maya channeled her, would she take on the appearance of the aged spirit, or the appearance of the person at the time of death?

Also, I wonder what it would look like if Maya channeled a male spirit. I know Misty Fey did so with Gregory Edgeworth, but they never really show it in game. It's interesting to think about.

I'm of the opinion that spirits don't age, and whatever you see is a snapshot of their form shortly before their death.

(How much of the spirit that the channeler resembles...well, that may depend on skill.)

Actually remember how in 3-5 pearl needed a picture of Dahlia to channel her?

My headcannon is that the spirit will only go into the body IF it resembles said person closely enough

There are some things which I prefer not to think about. Now I'm thinking about it.

Although I doubt biological aging applies to a spirit.

I think they obtain the appearance of the person around the time of that spirit's death. The only characters who we saw channeled during the game was Mia, who died at age 27, and Dahlia, dead at age 26-ish. Although Dahlia and Iris look like they're still close to their teen years but that may just be their genes.

As for appearance-wise, yes, I think they change to the spirit's gender. But non-functioning reproductive organs, I'm saying, because then we would have fanfiction of old male ghosts or women's ghosts getting dirty in the host's body and trying to impregnante/get pregnant... although I'm sure such fanfiction already exists.

Well Maya did inherit that manly jaw from Misty I guess and Misty channelled Gregory.

I'm fairly sure that spirits don't age, but there hasn't really been anytime to test this theory.
I always imagined that they didn't though.

About the channeling a guy, there was a really odd moment in the Miles Edgeworth casebook manga were Maya channeled a man. It was pretty distributing, actually.
