I wasn't sure where to post this, but I think the title explains itself.
I'd say IS-7 and DL-6 tie, and SS-5 and
Spoiler: GK-2 Song Name Spoiler
Downfall of the House of Lang
all tie, and Lamenting people just barely comes behind them.
Also, this calls for a sad smilie! :sadini:

That sad version of Athena's theme is... well, really sad.

This one because it's a remix of a usually happy song.

This one too for that reason.

Hm, interestingly, because it's a 'remix' of a happy song, I typically don't find it as sad. Still sad, but there are sadder ones.
That said, I actually don't really know which I think is the saddest song. I do know which most likely gave me the strongest feeling, though.
It's either "Trials and Tribulations - Trial" when it played right at the end of the trial in 3-5, because it was all over and what happened prior to this playing was, well, intense.
Or it is Kurain Genealogy from Turnabout Orchestra, which I listened to right after finishing the third game, and it was just a perfect medley going through about everything the Fey family went through. Or that's how it felt for me at the time of listening, anyhow

If I really had to pick the saddest, hm... The Detention Center themes often managed to make me feel sad. But the victory theme of AA2 also strangely manages this

R-Really? Do you mean this? If anything I personally found it to be one of the happiest won the case themes.

The ending themes of each game are quite sad too, in some sort of bittersweet way. Especially that of GS3 and GS4.

Eh? I know, opinions and all that, but I honestly can't see much happy about that theme. It doesn't sound like happy jazz at all. Heck, even the title of the theme is sort of unhappy...

...this song? Interesting. Did you associate it with something else that's happy?

lots of those reminiscence themes are pretty awesome sad songs in the series. I like 'True Evening of Grief' just cuz it was the first one and they built on that theme for some of the other ones in the first game.
I'd really love to hear more re-orchestrations of them, or as a big ol epic medley of sadness :viola:

This is ironic because I've not actually played the game its in... But from my bestie's reaction to it everytime its mentioned
and just the way it sounds (its beautiful) I have to say the saddest song for me is
Spoiler:
Turnabout Sisters
it just sounds so great and from my Bestie's reactions to it, the circumstances surrounding it's playing has to be more then amazing

I think you mean Turnabout Sister's Ballad, and it is a beautiful song...but doesn't get to sad for me until the fan made lyrics came out, and I just...relate so much.

I think any version of the Turnabout Sisters Ballad gives me some serious feels.

I know it played a few times before, but the first time it got me must have been at the end of 1-4, when Phoenix found Maya's goodbye note.

...and then again at the train station. Goddamnit AA let me breathe between feels

Honestly, only this one song in the entire AA series had such a strong hold on my heart to make me sad at the very sound of it. So much so, that every time I hear it, I get in such a melancholy mood, and my eyes water.

Forgotten Friendship Reminiscence song from Dual Destinies. Just.... Everything behind that song makes my heart heavy. And the worst/best part about it, is that the melody of the song is simply so beautiful, that my feelings conflict when I hear the song going: "This is so beautiful..." and "This is so tragic..." :acro:

I didn't care much for the music box version of "Turnabout sisters ballade" as it was played in the game, but later when I listened to the soundtrack it gave me shivers. :eh?:

I've not played the game yet!... is it not as well implemented in the game?

Well, honestly, as I keep saying, she's all but been confirmed. I personally hope she'll only come back in the last case, and like Edgeworth in GS5, was working behind the scenes all along.

I forgot to mention Tragic Memories, Athena's themes are arguably the happiest in the series, and reminiscising them makes it... :sob:

I don't know, the moment it was played was a sad one, but the music itself didn't do much for me.

I have to agree with everyone saying the Turnabout Sisters ballad. Definitely one of my favorite themes in the series.

I feel the GS3 one is the saddest in the series. That's because when I listen to it, it's not just a sad song from a single case. Instead, it is like having many sad moments from the trilogy told in one single song (Especially Mia's and Misty Fey's deaths thanks to the Turnabout Sisters part, but also Godot's history and the tragic loss of Mia in Turnabout Beginnings).

It's a tie between Reminiscence~The Bitter Taste of Truth from GS3 and Reminiscence~Sad Memories from GS5. Like Oliver, I legit teared up when I was playing with the latter. That haunting xylophone makes it sound so real. :sad-maya:

Scars Carved by Fire and Shadow on Dusky Bridge are the first two which come to mind. The former is definitely my favorite Reminiscence but I prefer a few others to the latter, but for other reasons than their sadness. I want to figure out which my favorite sad tune which isn't a Reminiscence is so I think I will do that. There might be better examples I glossed over but looking through the soundtracks the two that stuck out to me are Drew Studio, which is definitely more mysterious than sad but I think the sax gives it a heavily despairing quality, and the City at Night from Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which isn't super explicitly sad but has this melancholy, following-the-fallout-of-tragedy quality that befits its use.
