Post subject:  Does Phoenix mellow out a bit?
I've been thinking about the change in Nick's personality from PW:AA to JFA... this isn't about the Phoenix/Maya relationship per se (OK maybe it is) but in the first game, he seems a bit more sarcastic towards Maya, often saying how childish she is ("Maybe if you're OUTER child would be quiet for just a moment...") and implying Maya will wind up like Oldbag (admittedly he was joking). He's still friends with her though obviously.
In the 2nd game, he shares jokes with her more I think, like when Maya compares him to a burger and he jokes "Burger? I'm a prime rib at least!" :D Or "When this case is over, I roll over all you want", rather than "Why do you want me to do that?!"

I think they just know each other better and maybe he appreciates he more since a) she left him behind after 1:4 and b) since Edgeworth disappeared.

Having played the spanish version, I hadn't noticed that. Maybe Phoenix is closer to Maya on JFA, after all they only work together during two cases on AA, apart from the one which has Maya as the defendant. They shold known each other better on JFA than on AA, which may cause Phoenix to be a bit more friendly to her.

I agree with you, he probably knows her better so is more friendly towards her by GS2. And since he left behind, you know what they say about abscence ;) In 1-5 Phoenix expresses the fact he misses her.

I don't think Phoenix mellows out per se, I think Maya's just grown on him [as a little sister of sorts]. 1-5 was a case where Phoenix mused it was the first time he had to work without Mia or Maya's help.

I think he tends to whine a little more in JFA though.

As with most of the responses here, I'd have to agree that it's probably since he gets to know her better. He barely knew her too well in AA, but eventually they become friends, and are reunited in JFA...so perhaps then he sees her as a good friend he should respect more?

That is true, in 1-5 he says its hard to work without her, and that he misses her (I think). Something like "It sure is quiet without Maya around".

One of the first things that occured to me when I played JfA as that he did seem different, and I was playing case 1, I don't mean the bump to the head he recived, I mean in general.

He's ton more sarcastic (sp?), for a start, openly and inwardly.

He is..? Really? I can't remember. He wasn't being that mean and he was even proud of her when she didn't hate him for defending Ron.

AND HE EVEN RAN OVER A BURNING BRIDGE TO HELP HER! He was blinded by love! He didn't think of the danger! He just wanted to save Maya as soon as possible!

I thought he was less sarcastic in the 2nd game, especially towards Maya, though he was never mean.

In AA, he hardly knew her and they worked 2 cases together and that was it. In JFA, he hadnt seen her in over a year, and they gained a relationship from the 2 times she was accused for murder and the whole Matt Engarde Case
