I just had a thought. At the end of 'Phoenix's First Trial' we could add something like this.

?: Miss Mia Fey please hand over the documents.
Mia: I have none to give to the likes of you.
?:Not even the ones in the statue of The Thinker?
Mia: ...How can it be that nothing passes by your evil beady eyes?
?: You should have known that by now, before you challenged me. But now I have one more favour to ask of you... Your Eternal Silence...

I guess sign me up for...idealist? Inspirationalist? I come up with ideas to help the current situation, but i'm not really a writer...
Also, I think the cases should rise in length, like they do in the games.
Case 1: 10 minutes
Case 2: 15/20 minutes
Case 3: 25/30 minutes
Case 4: 35/40 minutes

That would be 100 minutes, which would be too short for a musical. Besides, they are going up in length. Something like 3-5 minutes for 1-1, 30-35 mins for 1-2, 45-50 for 1-3 and 60-90 for 1-4. All these figures are speculation though. :)

3-5 minutes for Case 1 seems a little too short. It should be at least 10 minutes.

If you can sum the whole case up in a single 3-5 minute song, do we really need to spend 10 minutes on it? We need the time for the other cases after-all.

Remember there are dialogues, pauses for applause, action on the stage, etc. Overall it may even go up to 15 minutes, but the most important thing is the script's draft. From there, we can work out how long which scene takes. The song it self may shoot far past 3-5 minutes - characters are introduced, dialogues and monologues happen mid-song, the whole trial and the verdict.

To me would be cool. My AIM is ETH80, otherwise please upload it and send a PM :)
Saying something (an introduction of yourself) and a bit of song/scales would be good. It would be bad if we wrote songs that in the end were too difficult, way too easy, too high or too low for the singers.

Oh my God, this thread exploded. :O So much interest, I'm excited too!

The real problem is exactly how long Case 1-1 will be. People are saying 3-5 minutes, others 10, and we need to hit somewhere in between.

I was originally thinking that we could show the audience all the characters during the overture- they could all be going about their normal lives while the first case is going on. While Phoenix would be thinking of his next move in court, for example, we could have Gumshoe greeting Edgeworth off on the side, have them exchange short dialogue, and then leave, and the case resumes.

Maybe we should have an easy song for the beginning that should be reprised at the end or somewhere during the show. I find it ties everything together during shows, and it's easier on the musicians because they don't have to write/play so many different tunes.

Yeah, having the other characters appearing in the overture would work; as long as it didn't get in the way of the story. That way, we could include snippits of other peoples themes.

And there should be a reprise to a song, and maybe one of those things where everyone sings at the same time :)

I'm getting images of the end of Urinetown where everyone's singing the beginning again. Fo'serious.

So no introducing characters that we never see ever again. In that case, we need to decide who we want to have and who can go.

The case 1-5 people aren't going to be here (oh no, hopes of seeing Meekins and Gant onstage are gone!), so no having something like Gant walking out and going, "HAS EVERYONE BEEN SWIMMING LATELY?", as funny as the audience's confusion would be. XD

But then there are other minor characters. How are we going to do Polly, for an example? (I think it would be funny if it was a stuffed parrot, and someone stood behind it and was its voice and made it move.)

I personally think that if Edgeworth is introduced in the overture it would sort of ruin the whole "omg demon prosecutor what's he gonna look like" thing.

the first song could be sung/played with a kinda clock tick beat (considering the thinker clock was the main evidence) hehe with in time desk slamming (slam, clap, objection)

Oh man, I can totally imagine that- a kinda ominous ticking noise. Good idea, TheeGoblin!

That's true, we should keep Edgeworth a secret, along with von Karma. Gumshoe and pretty much everyone else is fair game, though, as far as I can remember.

Yeah, ticking would add an interesting spin to the first song. It could start when we see Nick and would stop before the final objection. It would signify that the case had been turned around.

Would we keep the same theme in other songs during court- a constant sound that signifies what the real answer is? It would be kinda hard, but it would keep something going, and would keep the audience involved and interested.

Snape... Snape.... Severus Snape... :D

also, who are we marketing this show to? People that cosplay as phoenix and edgey at comicon? Or people that go "Phoenix Wright? What's that?" Because both ways can work well.

Phantom of the Opera. You learn about the story of the Phantom early on, and get an idea of the characters early on.

Wicked - it's a show about Wizard of Oz from 2 Witches point of view. And a lot of the show depends on the audience knowing the original story, but still is a very awesome show partially because of it.

Something like that would be perfect, actually! Kind of a beeping out of a video game?

(Hellz yeah, Phantom and Wicked!) We wanted to market the show to everyone- people who love the game, people who don't know about it, people who could care less about video games, and people who had heard of the game but had never played it. It would play out as if you were picking up the game for the first time, not the 100th; everything would be explained, but it would still be enjoyable for those who knew the story.

Wicked is good? I think you're having me on. XD Well, it's story might be good I have to admit, but all its songs lacked something I felt. And since the songs are the main reason I go, I don't like the musical much.

Haha, I only read the book. I actually lost the opportunity to see the show twice! (When mom and I went to New York City a while ago, we wanted to see Wicked, but it was sold out so we saw Aida instead. It was in Boston for a few months just recently, but I was one of the only kids in school who didn't get tickets to see it.)

Song-wise, I was thinking along the lines of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. (Obscure musical, I know, but it's awesome.) Whenever a kid would get knocked out, the other kids would sing a "goodbye" song. We could have the same thing when a person is Not Guilty or Guilty, or when there's a testimony; the witness could sing a testimony to the same tune the other witnesses used.

Hmm, another interesting idea. Perhaps each witness should be backed by different instruments. Gumshoe could have brass instruments, Edgey could have strings etc.

Oh, yeah, there's advertising too.

We've agreed that, since we're all in different countries and whatnot, we wouldn't have an actual stage production, but a digital prodution. But what about tables in the artist's alleys of anime cons when we're nearing completion, or even before? We could have people outside of the boards sign up to help and spread the word about what we're doing.

We could have a stage production at some point, but the CR original version will be digital. As for advertising; I have a few ideas up my sleeve. :)

Same here. I would be lucky if my parents suddenly went, "Lol hay Amanda let's go to England! :D", seeing as they've stuck by the firm belief that I shouldn't go anywhere like Europe, Asia, or Africa until I'm old enough to "appreciate the culture". (See: not until I'm 16+.)

What else is there to think about that we haven't hit upon? Set?

Definitely a courtroom for the basic set. Usually in my school's productions a popular thing is moving walls- when one side of a certain wall is out it's one place, and another side it's another place, but it's the same basic set all around. That could be used for us.

EDIT: Oh my God, this thread made me into a Desk Jockey rather than a Suspect. XD

Actually I've never set foot anywhere American, either.

It's not like the other continents are full of culture, you know - like in the states, I suppose it depends where you go.

Re: musical, all that really needs to be done is a draft/script based upon the original script. As soon as we have the framework, the rest will come a lot easier in comparison to trying to think of it now. Because then we'll have the scenario right in front of us.

I'll start on mine tomorrow, still got some work to do.
