ALL INFORMATION REGARDING THE MUSICAL, PROGRESS, THE TEAM, RECRUITMENT, TEAMSPEAK AND A DISCLAIMER CAN NOW BE FOUND ON THE WEBSITE:

ALL NEWS FEBRUARY ONWARDS CAN ONLY BE FOUND ON THE WEBSITE.

Feb 12: New additions to the team and happy NEI Week to all of you. The full updates from now on will only be found on the website.
Feb 01: I am trying to respond to all remaining PMs, applications and emails soon. Check your inboxes, and should you not have received a reply by next weekend, leave Ethed (apps, requests and co) or Gerkuman (script) a brief message.
Jan 21: Thank you for a funny and constructive weekend on Teamspeak. I request the following people report in to give an update on their latest work/status: Shinkinrui (Progress page/song list), atomicscribble, Miss Prince. Script Supervisor Gerkuman may freely amend to this list.
Jan 19: I suggest everyone hang out on Teamspeak this weekend. Case closed. :)
Jan 17: Large website update regarding Recruitment and more.
Jan 15: WEBSITE IS UP. www.popdrivel.com ~ functional > pretty. For the time being.
Jan 14: WRITERS: We'd like to thank the active writers of both script and song and remind the slackers that the deadline to send in any scriptwork at all is this Saturday! As always, forward your stuff to Script supervisor Gerkuman. The rest of you, don't worry. As soon as you send something to him, you can continue writing at your own pace. We just need to know who's still alive, who's serious about contributing to the project.

He will update the sheet found near the bottom of this post once he knows who's in the team and who's out.
Jan 13: WRITERS/RECRUITMENT: mriparian, the script writer for 1-3 day 2, cannot contribute to the project at this point anymore. We will need more script writers! EVERYONE: I (Ethed) will set up a website for the project when February hits. We'll keep this thread on CR of course! Without Court Records, this wouldn't happen.
Jan 11: Update later. I have access to the forums again and will take care of thread once I'm back home.
Dec 21: TriforceBun's great attempt at Gumshoe's song, "The Kind of Guy That You Can Trust", has been rerecorded now featuring the vocals of Shinkinrui, our Detective Gumshoe, and Usei. Click here!
Dec 15: RECRUITMENT: I've been contacted by a few writers over the past days for which I am greatly thankful, however there is still a lot to do - everyone interested, please contact the Script Supervisors atomicscribble and/or Gerkuman so that they introduce you to the framework and assign you scenes to write. Leave me a brief message, too.
Dec 09: WRITERS: Looking at the little progress, the second sync phase will have to be postponed. SINGERS: I've written down some of the roles I found most convincing/suitable, however none of that is final nor complete, and I was impressed with everybody's hard work. As the auditions aren't closed until the actual production, anyone should get a fair chance, and of course chances may be you don't even agree. Haha. EVERYONE: Should I not have replied to you yet, please contact me once more using e-mail or PM. RECRUITMENT: We need more writers! Anyone with freetime, give me a poke.
Dec 02: WRITERS: Pack your stuff, upload it (to sendspace or something) and PM. If you want my e-mail instead, PM me as well.
Nov 30: Added more to the cast. SCRIPT WRITERS, turn in your work this weekend or update me on your status. It does not have to be done yet, but I want to start syncing. SONGWRITERS, there are no limits - start coming up with as many pieces as you like. Got a catchy melody? Write it down.
Nov 27: Shuffled the team around a little and added vocalists.
Nov 26: Major updates have been made and we are progressing. The script is being written, however we are still in great need of help.
Nov 25: It is decided! We will start by collecting ideas and drafting the script based upon PW:AA/ http://www.court-records.net/cases.htm. This thread will be updated and styled as we progress.

Tazering the audience, adjusting cravats, elevator trouble and YOU participating in fandom’s newest project: Phoenix Wright - The Musical, in honour of the fantastic game series Ace Attorney/Gyakuten Saiban, property of Capcom.

It all started out on the ridiculously talented message boards of Court Records, an Ace Attorney fansite. Do you have what it takes? Rookie songwriter or full-fledged professional vocalist? Do you play an instrument, write poems in your freetime or have wild flashy ideas for dialogue and plot on an hourly basis, considered a career in the business somewhere? Are you a flash artist? Can you choreograph dances? The M.S. Wright welcomes anybody willing to make even the smallest contribution. Hop aboard!

We are planning a mostly digital production of a musical as traditional as possible, perhaps an animation to go with it once we’ve established the larger chunks. The project will be strictly organised and there are many months of hard work to go until completion.

We are looking to cover the first game of the series in the first installment of this project, more specifically the DL-6 arc/aftermath. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. 1-5: Rise From The Ashes will not be part of it as it has no relevance to that arc. (Although, it could possibly be used in a sequel, if we ever decide to do one)

Should you be interested in joining, proceed to the Recruitment page on our website. Remember that the project is almost entirely web-based, so your location doesn’t matter at all. Please be patient though, we have a lot to get through.:

Well at uni I have access to a sound studio, which has a synthesizer keyboard attached to a mac. Currently learning to use the pro tools program on there (i can't play piano tho, but can read sheet music kinda).
Also i just finished directing actors course/have a free script writing template for Word if anyone wants a copy.
Will be up for writing or just a crackpot ideas machine

I'd like a copy of the script template~

My friend is also a musician and a fan of Phoenix Wright. I'll try and hook her up too.

You don't need to play that much piano to produce/arrange :) When I wrote my first musical I was barely able to read sheet music, really, and not much later I found myself on stage with an ensemble of over 100 and conducting a big band.

We all need to get in contact, guys. Messengers? I suggest AIM. Discussing everything in the later production on the forums may be too much.

Aside from singing, I'm kinda music-defecit. XD I've got no idea of harmony and all that unless I hear it, and I can't really write music for myself.

Well, we're on CR here, where noone is ashamed of anything. I'll most likely even be singing myself. We need everyone we can get. What d'you know about your voice? I'll list you.

I reside somewhere in the alto/tenor range. I feel more comfortable singing low than I do singing high. (No crazy baritone stuff though. :O)

Post subject:  Re: Phoenix Wright - The Musical. Seriously. [Recruiting! U:

Cool. I'm a mezzosoprano, but in range, I go as deep as a female baritone. :X

Post subject:  Re: Phoenix Wright - The Musical. Seriously. [Recruiting! U:11/2

I can go baritone, but not for very long, so I try not to.

We need people on set and costume design, too. Moar!

Post subject:  Re: Phoenix Wright - The Musical. Seriously. [Recruiting! U:

indeed talking jam v.random thing.

I'd def be able to do sound mixing, if theres going to be different parts recorded in different places.
I recall a funky tip from my sound teacher, best place to record your voice or any other sounds is in a car.

That's kinda bizzare. But then again, it's probably because of the way the sound comes back at you. My chorus teacher told everyone to raise their eyebrows when they were going really high or really low since it took the strain off of your throat and placed the sound more in your sinuses or chest respectively.

And you know what? It really works. XD

And yay, new recruits!

And then there's all the legal stuff. Man, I forgot about this bit.

Apparently fanstuff isn't illegal as long as we aren't making money off it. Actually performing the musical and charging people to see it would classify as illegal for us. Is there any way to contact Capcom and get their permission for it or somesuch?

Author:  Ethed [ Sat Nov 24, 2007 10:58 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Phoenix Wright - The Musical. Seriously. [Recruiting! U:

Yeah, I'd love that, as well as everyone having an acceptable mic. TheeGoblin and I can probably master a lot out of it, though. Anything works. Introduce yourself, sing a line or two.

Legal stuff: We're not gonna make money with this, unless we approach Capcom and present it to them. Or they approach us, haha.

Post subject:  Re: Phoenix Wright - The Musical. Seriously. [Recruiting! U:11/2

Fo' free unless we write a letter to Capcom and get a reply, then. Risking lawsuits wouldn't be fun, even if it would mean getting lawyers and dorking out in court. XD

I'll record myself ASAP! Are there any specific songs we could sing, or is it open to preference?

Post subject:  Re: Phoenix Wright - The Musical. Seriously. [Recruiting! U:

Heck, Capcom already bought an orchestra and a jazz band's performances for songs which appeared in the three games' OST.

Jazz band name: Metamorphosis.
Jazz album name: 逆転裁判 ジャズアルバム

Orchestra album name: 逆転裁判』オーケストラアルバム

This means you actually could make money out of this... But why?

EDIT: Capcom's ORIGINAL artists made very funny album covers for the albums
Spoiler: haha

Open to preference. Scales work just fine, too.

I'll put my (new!) AIM SN in the OP.

Edit: Wright_, personally, while I want this project to go far, we are not professionals - we are fans as we are. I'm not doing this for a living, and usually a musical production isn't happening online. Personally, I love Capcom. I love PW. Maybe we'll be in contact with them, but while this is still in the fledgling stages and is not guaranteed to work out, there is no point in contacting Capcom. As soon as we are actually producing it, that might be the right time :)

Characters interacting with audience members (e.g. using aisleways as set too): y/n?
