I actualy like the English names of all the charicters better. Not becuase I can understand them, but it shows thatwe can word play on lots of things with out language. I mean, don't get me wrong, some of the Japanese word plays are exeptional, but I just like the English better... Unless they make a charicter called Kanzen or Kazuya, there is no way I'm changing my mind. :P

OMG!!! Derek has his own smilie. :D :stiles:

Anyway back to the point. I'm with you on this one.

Well what's better. "Klavier and The Gavinettes" or "The Gavinners"?

I've been a big advocate of how good and weill thought out the names are in the fourth game. Here's my rather ignored findings on the Gavin name from the "Interesting Name Translations" thread:

Interestingly enough, Gavin is a British name, not German: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin

And Gavin Rossdale plays the Guitar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_Rossdale

And Gavin DeGraw plays both the Guitar AND Piano: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_DeGraw

To quote our favorite Judge:
:judge: - "True, that is a possibility. However, two coincidences at the same time seems more like a 'pattern' to me."

And the dept doesn't end there, Gavin is said to be based off the name Gawain, King Arthur Pendragon's nephew, thus adding the "Garyuu could also mean Dragon's Fang" Parallel.

I like the name "Gavinners" better then "Klavier & the Gavinettes".......*shudders*& wow...Gavin's a brittish name not German?? then wouldn't that mean that one of :kyouya: 's parents is British?

I hate the name "Apollo Justice". Seriously. I want to kill it. I think they went a bit overboard with the whole "HURRR THE NEW PROTAGONIST'S NAME MUST REFLECT PHOENIX'S NAME" thing. I would change it to "Justis Eagleson" if I were Capcom. I also prefer "Konrad" over "Klavier".

I like some of the names though... Like Kristoph Gavin, Olga Orly, Pal Meraktis, Wocky Kitaki and Daryan Crescend.

I'm neutral about the others.

Best name: "Lamiroir," because it's so ridiculously unpronounceable, especially if you have trouble with your L's and R's.

Guy Eldoon was a great name, too, as were Alita Tiala and Wesley Stickler. Drew and Vera Misham also worked, and Wocky kinda did.

The others were weak to awful.

It's as if the translators thought that, since AA is silly, the most contrived, ridiculous names were necessary. "Phoenix Wright" is about as far as you can go before I get a bit turned off. "Apollo Justice" is just pushing it; "Apollo" would have been okay, and "Justice" would have been okay, but not together. "Johnny Justice" would have been endearingly silly, "Lex [anything]" would have been a good translation of his first name... I just don't get the logic of "Apollo Justice," except as an attempt to copy the "Phoenix Wright" formula.

"Klavier Gavin" is pretty bad. "Trucy" is cutesy to the extreme, but works. The French name for the Gramaryes, the Grimoires, is perfect, but "Gramarye" is almost as awkward as "Lamiroir." "Daryan Crescend?" Why not just call him "Daryan Crescendo," or "Darren Laud," or something like that?

Then... Romein LeTouse/Romaine Lettuce.... that's not even bad.

I like most of the names.

Kristoph is my favorite guy's name actually, so that one was like *Squee*
Klavier has a certain ring to it, Wocky I don't mind because it is a pun (Wocky kitaki, walky talkie)
Ummmm Alita Tiala I don't like because I can't seem to get out the 'Tiala' part without tripping over my tongue and sounding like an idiot.
Eldoon I like because it's noodle backwards.

Um, The only one I really have a problem with is the Gavinners, I mean they could've done, like someone else said, Gavin Wave, or something similar.

the only thing good about the gavinners is the fun thing you can write with it.
"_____________ Kicked him in the little Gavinner"
Just fill in the blank and you can get your anger out of Klavier :maya:

Even though I love Klavier to peices :will:

What with my "tiribol aksint", I will never be able to pronounce Lamiroir/Gramarye right. I didn't particularly like the sound of these names either. They were a bit awkward. :S. But other than that, I was okay with most of them.

When I first saw Wocky, my mind instantly flew back to my days of being addicted to neopets, but I got over it pretty quickly, and I reckon the name suited him really well. "Wocky Kitaki" has a nice ring to it. Other names I liked included Alita, Wesley, Machi (...Not changed I don't think?), Olga (Lol), Brushel, Kristoph and Klavier. Klavier just sounds sexy.

I played piano when I was little, so I instantly caught the pun on Crecsend, and I think it suited him from that point of view, but it does sound a little weird, now that I think about it. Trucy, the name, is super cute, and I think that's what they were intending to go for (...Even if she really isn't that cute IMO :|)

Generally I like the names though. I'm neutral on Apollo Justice, I think it was supposed to be a bit of a pun, and personally, I don't think it's too different from Phoenix Wright.

Sure. I like the english names as well..... but the only ones I like mostly are:

Kristoph, Klavier, Vera, Lamiror, Apollo.

A name that didn't sound good to me though was Wocky. Maybe because it sounds similar to Wacky or something?

And what about Machi? I mean - what kind of stupid name is that? It actually Wocky sound more decent to name a child :larry:.

I like the English names (in all the PW/GS in fact). I find them entertaining, and a lot more effective (since some names are played off as puns and things) to me, and I'm all for wacky names. I dunno, the Japanese names just seem like regular boring Japanese names (and sometimes long and hard to remember) to me and even if they had puns in them, I don't know them exactly.

But I agree with some, "Gavinners" sounds kinda weird, not to mention that Klavier is the only Gavin. The band name would sound as if it should be a family of Gavins, but yeah...lol

I actually liked all/most of the names.

I thought Wocky was cute and funny. Yeah, not too gangster, but his parents weren't so big after awhile on the whole gangsta thing, so it fits.
I loved Alita's name. Alita Tiala. It sounds like a name I'd make up, lol.
I thought Trucy fit her perfectly. Yeah, it was a silly name, but it fit her so well, in my opinion. I don't always care about fitting the Japaneses meaning; she just simply looks and acts like what I'd think of a Trucy :D
Vera Misham, I didn't like at first; I imagine an elderly person when I hear Vera, but I've written a fanfic with her, so I've gotten over that.
Apollo Justice took a while to get used to; I thought the name was too silly, but it's grown on me. I'm not too fond of the last name, but I like calling him "Paul" so the first name works, lol
Klavier; while I don't think the meaning fits, I think the sound of it does. Just say it a few times: Klavier, Klavier, Klavier. Sounds like a fan-squealing, cocky rockstar to me! Though, I think Konrad would be a lot better (makes me think of Bye Bye Birdie, and that dude was also a famous rockstar, lol. We love you C/Konrad, oh yes we do... *shot*)
Yeah, Gavenners sounded lame; Gavin Wave would've been better, but I didn't really care.

To be honest, I expect punny names for the one-time-seen characters and places. And seriously, guys; can't get over Romein LeTuce (or however you spell it, lol)?
How is April May, Penny Nichols, Will Powers, Jack Hammer, Sal Manella, etc. etc. doin for you? I thought it was weird, but rather funny. XD
