You know... I'm pretty sure that there are only five characters who've shown up in all four games: Phoenix, the judge, Gumshoe, Payne, and...

Charley! That makes him pretty special, don't you think?

And, you can see him in every case except the ones that are just a single trial day. Which means he shows up in more cases than pretty much anyone but Phoenix.

There. I think I've conclusively proven that Charley is one of the most important characters in the game.

Never happen. Phoenix is such a sentimental sap. I mean, he still has all of Mia's old law books which he never uses (and are covered in a layer of dust apparently <_<). He wouldn't be able to just replace Charley. Such a thing is unthinkable!
