Probably the most fun that I ever had in the old thread was with the debates. People were allowed to share opinions, as long as they gave reasons why. The old thread was home to many a great debate. They normally went something like this:
Person 1: *Explains why they like/dislike a pairing*
Person 2: “I disagree” *Gives reasons why*
Person 1: *Counterargument*
Person 2: “You have a good point, but…*more points*
Person 3: *Gives opinion*
Person 4: *Also gives opinion*
Person 1: Hm. Never thought about it that way.
Person 2: No, neither did I, but wouldn’t Kristoph just kill her?
Person 4: No, because *Explains*
Person 3: I agree with you there.
Person 1: Interesting…
We respected each others’ opinions, and handled everything in a mature manner.
Sometimes, the debates were less serious.
Person 1: If Kristoph was a Rhapsody song, he’d be “March of the Swordmaster”
Person 2: You sure? I’ve always imagined him as “Pride of the Tyrant”, myself
Person 1: But “Swordmaster” makes sense! “Into the ray of the sun, marches a hero hunting the darklord”
Person 2: But so does “Tyrant”! “Akron is the bastard... he massacred all”
Person 3: Personally, I’ve always thought he’d be “Emerald Sword”.
Like it or not, the debates were the true soul of the original Kristoph thread.
It’s almost like comparing the original ECW and the new ECW. The original ECW was not afraid to show you things you never saw on television. They took risks, made deep, shades-of-gray characters, and took storylines to places no one had ever done before. The new ECW is much tamer. This is because the WWE is afraid. They’re afraid parents will complain, or sue them, if the violence is replicated. They stick with a weak established formula, something that is safe. Both are good, but they are different.
This is how I view the old Kristoph thread and the new Kristoph thread. In the old Kristoph thread, we were unafraid. We went off-topic, yet somehow remained on-topic at the same time. We had debates, feuds, stories. We made our feelings known. We respected one another. In the new Kristoph thread, we are scared. We don’t want it to get locked, so we stop the debates, we stop the extreme, we try our utmost to keep it limited to jolly old family fun. However, the original thread was locked because of length more than anything! Both threads were good. The new one is tame.
These are my views. You may do with them as you wish.
((BUT that last bit sounds like a very good plan to me.))

I'll admit, I get a bit scared about ranting or going slightly off topic here. Not because the thread will get locked, but because everyone will bitch and moan about it.
You made that point very well. Even though this is just a silly thread about a made up game character, you seem to respect freedom of discussion and argument. And that's good.
