Kiri and Kyou are from the US in the JPN version right? o.o I was thinking when they americanize these games, do they think of the US being as tiny as Japan? If this series takes place in LA in the US version, couldn't they make the brothers come from the east coast like NY or something o.o Its almost like a different country from one coast to the next

I mean, he didn't call the judge 「ミスター 裁判長」 in the Japanese, because he wasn't defined as "being from America", he was defined as a "rocker prosecutor". More of Kyouya's goofiness, I thought, came from saying ridiculous things like "Garyuu Wave's music is something you feel with your entire body!". In other words, from his random musical metaphors. Starting off the trial with "Let's rock!" is ridiculous enough in both languages. We don't really need "Achtung, baby!" to keep an aspect of his character that really isn't terribly important. He isn't Redd White.

They probably just picked a country at random, or thought the majority thought Germany was so cool. It'd be kind of dumb if they came from the UK, everyone would see that as sort of plain.

Franziska was from America originally, and they decided to localize that as her being from Germany. Kyouya was also from America, so it only makes sense to localize him the same way. It also seems that the series is envoking more CULTURE into the characters (or stereotypes, one of the two). If I'm not mistaken, the Judge's Brother has a... Canadian... accent??? CANADIAN'S DON'T HAVE ACCENTS!!! Okay, SOME of us may have them (like how newfoundlanders are stereotyped) but hell, in my neighbourhood, the LAST thing we have is an accent.
I wonder what'll be next in the realm of GS.

And on the subject of nationalistics, we now have a balanced set of American/German prosecutors. One really horrible Perfectionist, One nice guy who only cares about the truth and a strict prosecutor who learns to value the truth. Before the advent of Klavy it looked a bit one sided (Like all the American/German Prosecuters were mean)

It's probably because in the Japanese, Kyouya used a lot of English in court. It was part of his act as a rock star. But the Karumas' always spoke Japanese.
So in translating Kyouya to Klavier, they would have to translate all his "English" outbursts as "German" outbursts. Thus, "Let's rock, Baby!" -> "Achtung, Baby!"

It's a pun! I think it's funny, but maybe that's just me.
I was reluctant to accept the name "Klavier" at first, but the more I try it out, the better it rolls off my tongue. I hope the German will be a little less obtrusive than the screenshots have made it out to be, but I think that if it's only sprinkled intermittently, it's sort of fun. Besides, German screams "Rocker!" to me in the same way that the English phrases might in Japan. It calls Rammstein and German goth rock to mind.

True, but Japanese perceptions of America are definitely a different ballpark than American perceptions of Germany. American culture isn't peppered with German references/language quite like Japanese culture. I'm no expert on this by any means, though.
I definitely concede that if they decide to create a connection between Franziska and Kyouya, the translators would have to come up with one hell of a retcon to justify it if they weren't both German. I didn't think of that.

Well, first off, everyone has an accent, you just don't realise it when you're surrounded by people with the same accents. Canadians do, in fact, have Canadian accents. Not necessarily the Newfie ones, but accents none the less.
Secondly, what's so bad about playing off the Newfie accent? I find it pretty hilarious, actually, and it's not really any worse than using, say, Southern speak for Lotta.

I doubt it. I suppose there's a company called "X Klaviers", as in "X Pianos", where X is the different name. However, if you had a brand of, say, ice cream, would you call it "Ice Cream"? That's not very distinguishable
And to come back on the "all prosecutors come from Germany"-thing - I would've preferred if they had all come from Europe in some way. The USA is a really HUGE country, whereas most European countries aren't that big. It makes more sense to get lots of prosecutors from the USA than from a single country in Europe.

And for those who ask why the von Karmas or other non-American characters don't say any word in their own language... if they did it'd look like they can't speak English properly. Or it'd be too informal, in my opinion.
