I love that fic! I have a really weird idea that might not be so crackish after all...
Kristoph was Joe Darke's defense attorney in SL-9. As a matter of fact, it was his first case. He knew Gant did it, but he couldn't really prove it as Darke was convicted. Since Phoenix figured it out, succeeding where Kristoph had failed, Krissi held a grudge against him.
Also, in 4-1, what if he was really intending to kill Phoenix, but since it was dark and he couldn't see and ended up killing Zak?

All these facts point to a simple conclusion.

Also, why did Kristoph kill Zak? I broke the Psyche-Locks. Because Zak threw him away for Phoenix Wright. Kristoph wanted to use forged evidence to help Zak, but after being thrown away, he used the evidence against him. It's pretty simple if you think about it, I finished 3-4 about a week ago and figured it out a few hours later.
