Nah, it wasn't that personal. Phoenix spends the entire game insisting that he's not there to play the blame game but rather to unveil the truth. His secret mission is the Jurist system, not something petty like "revenge on Kristoph".

Of course, part of 'unveiling the truth' is uncovering Kristoph's guilt, but Phoenix was doing it for that, not for personal reasons.

Just started replaying 4-4 today, he says that his "secret mission" is the Jurist System.

The Jurist System was also his revenge, since he destroyed the legal flaw that resulting in his fall, and which Kristoph had thrived with. He destroyed the one thing Kristoph had left - the evidence-addicted legal system that required definitive proof, ignoring all other circumstances. That it was also an issue in every other trial in the game was also a factor.

Personally, I think think it was to cover up his 'other' job.

I think the "Secret Mission" was the Jurist System. The fact that he got Kristoph in the end is just icing on the cake! :hobohodo:
