Most of all, it gives the game something we hardly ever see in games, a sense of family. You see bits of it in the other PW games, but it really comes to the fore in GS4. In how many other games can you honestly say that the family members really, truly care for one another, or hell, that they even mention that they have family to care about? It's something which makes the character that musch more real to me. More plot driven fandoms need awesome familes.
Anyone care to chime in with their thoughts on Papa Nick?

If only GS4 had more scenes like this but then again it would bring more attention to Phoenix then to Apollo and I don't see why Nick couldn't have a fourth game but then again that's Capcom for you.

Phoenix/Maya/Pearl is a much better patchwork family than Phoenix/Minuki. Seriously. Them and Edgeworth/Franziska are ADORABLE familial bonds, and it's one of the strongest points in the first three games, so I don't really know how you can say that >_>

We don't know until we've played Apollo Justice but from what I can gather when I was playing GS4 is that Phoenix is just a normal father to her. Nothing more. I do believe that he believes in fairness so he only dishes out punishment in due course. But of course, he does use Minuki's/Trucy's ability for granted almost but Trucy/Minuki doesn't mind as she loves her father (

I like the interaction between Hobo and Trucy. It tends to be pretty interesting. However, I found it unrealistic that the Phoenix of AA1-3 would adopt an orphan in the first place. He seemed like more of the type to make sure she found a safe place to live, but not do it himself. I thought it'd have been a situation where Maya said, "NICK, take in this orphan" and Phoenix would think "why me?" It doesn't seem like him to do it on his own accord because he feels badly. Especially since she gave him the evidence that ruined his career.
Pearl was also left with nobody/nothing and he didn't take her in. He let her live in Kurain with a bunch of people that may or may not have cared about her (AA2-3 didn't really go into that). Maya didn't live with him, either, despite being a minor - she was old enough for it to maybe be a little creepy to move in with PW, but in AA1, there wasn't even any Kurain established, and she was more alone than Pearl was.
My argument in the above paragraph is a little shaky, I know. I just ...don't see Phoenix taking Trucy in without any prompting.
